Remembering Our Parishes Please consider remembering St. Francis of Assisi Parish, St. Joseph Parish or St. Joseph School when drafting your estate plans. For more information, please call Laura Powers at 781-396-0423 Ext 113. Thank you. Did you know that the word "Lent" comes from an Old English word that means "spring?" After all these snowstorms, let's hope and pray that we will soon enjoy springtime in nature, as well as a "springtime" of conversion and new life in our hearts as we approach Holy Week. Our parishes are blessed to have many volunteers who "make things happen," day after day, week after week. We rely on their generosity; they make our parishes such great communities. Today, March 18, we celebrate Volunteer Appreciation Day at the 12:00 Mass at St. Joseph, followed by a reception in the St. Joseph Social Center. Please offer prayers of gratitude for our many volunteers, and consider becoming a volunteer yourself if you aren't already. We are celebrating two important saints this weekend - Saint Patrick on March 17 and Saint Joseph on March 19. These are occasions for big celebrations for Irish and Italian people, but they are also days to pray for the needs of our families and parishes. Saint Patrick, the great missionary Apostle of Ireland is also the patron saint of the Archdiocese of Boston. Saint Joseph, the foster father of our Lord, is our parish's patron saint and also the patron of workers, husbands and fathers, and anyone in financial distress. Let us call on these saints for their help for our parishes and for our families. Bridge to Kindergarten Program Saint Joseph School understands and appreciates the importance of the whole child. If your child would benefit from the gift of time, before entering Kindergarten, this is the program for you! This program is designed to promote a level of readiness skills necessary for a Kindergarten classroom. The Bridge program introduces children at a slower pace to the structure and routine of a Kindergarten classroom. Teachers encourage emerging learners through a variety of ways focusing on the development of each individual child. The Bridge is a five (5) full day program which includes Music, Art, Spanish, and Physical Education all taught by a specialist outside of their classroom. Collaborative of St. Francis of Assisi Parish & St. Joseph Parish, Medford, MA Page 5 Easter Flower Remembrances In an effort to become more efficient and more lovingly honor the memory of your loved ones this Easter, the list of names of those for whom flower donations are made will not be published in the Easter season bulletins. Instead, we will place every Easter Flower envelope received in a basket near the altar and all your loved ones will be prayerfully remembered as the Special Intention and in the Prayers of the Faithful at our Easter Masses. We are grateful for your generosity and understanding. Thank You from Heartbeat for Your Generosity and Caring Thank you very much for your caring and generosity in the recent Baby Bottle Fundraiser at St. Francis of Assisi Parish! Your donations help to save lives and assist needy families choosing life for their children! Thank you also to all who worked to make the fundraiser so successful, especially the members of the Medford Collaborative Confirmation Class! Three hundred thirty babies were born during 2017 to families we are assisting, along with over sixty-five so far this year. Providing assistance to so many needy families is increasingly challenging and costly! Our funds were very low. Thank you for helping us to keep serving! We are grateful to God and to you! Your prayers and support help us to share God s love with the needy families we serve! God Bless all of you! The moms we assist find hope and know they are not alone. I wish we could share their smiles and hugs!
