St. James Catholic Church Seguin, TX June 1, 2014 Notes from the Pastor ** There will be an informational meeting for the Rome trip, at 9AM on June 1st, in the parish family center (room 3). ** Feast of the Ascension-Jesus empowered his apostles to continue his work of salvation here on earth. As the Apostles were given a mission, we ask ourselves: What is the mission of my work here on earth? Am I bringing about God s kingdom or my kingdom? Let us focus on the presence of Jesus with us always until the end of time. Let us continue to make disciples of all nations. **CONGRATULATIONS to our St. James Catholic School graduates: Lea Bohnenberger, Presley Carter, Madison McMillan and Brooke Hagen. All of you were excellent students and role models. My thanks to their parents and teaching staff of St. James for all your hard work. We wish them well. **We congratulate all our high-school graduates at the noon Mass this Sunday. My appreciation to four students who continued to serve St. James as our Eucharistic celebration: Cameron Ahrens (perfect attendance all through elementary to high-school),, Luke Jasek as server here and at Divine Mercy, Krystal Moczygemba (Salutatorian at JPII, who has served as an Altar Server and Cantor, and Walker Franz as Altar Server and Lector. Congratulations to all of you and your parents for your fine example of service in the spirit of Jesus Christ. **Next Saturday, June 7 at 7PM at St. Rose of Lima Church in San Antonio (9883 Marbach Rd), Archbishop Gustavo is inviting us to come and celebrate the dedication of the Holy Spirit in the Archdiocese of San Antonio. All of us are asked to pray fervently for the work of God s Spirit in our Archdiocese, parishes, homes and schools. Come Holy Spirit and fill the hearts of your faithful. SEVENTH SUNDAY OF EASTER During the following weeks, I am including what I call A short summary to explain why Catholics believe the way they do. It is from a book by Gus Lloyd on A Minute in the Church. Fr. Dennis The Hail Mary Many non-catholics find it distasteful, if not downright offensive, to pray or even hear the Hail Mary. Most people don t realize the whole first half of the prayer is simply quoting Scripture! Imagine that! Let s break it down. Hail, Mary, full of grace. The Lord is with you. These are the words of the angel Gabriel in Luke 1:28. The next line of the prayer contains the words of Mary s cousin Elizabeth from Luke 1:42, Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb. So there you go the first half of the Hail Mary is taken directly from the pages of the Bible. And the second half? Simply a request for the mother of God s only Son to pray for us. Holy Mary, Mother of God, prayer for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen. Some may even take issue with the term Mother of God. But, really, that makes no sense. If you re a Christian, you proclaim Jesus as true God and true man. And since Mary is the mother of Jesus, then she truly is the Mother of God. And as brothers and sisters of Jesus, she is the Mother of all Christians. For further study: Luke 1:28, Luke 1:42...next week, Scripture and Tradition Your Archbishop s Appeal Donations are Funding: ST. PETER-ST. JOSEPH S CHILDRENS HOME St. PJ s provides neglected and abused children a safe haven in which they may begin to heal from the trauma of the abuse and/or neglect that has plagued their young lives. St. PJ s offers the children counseling, medical attention, spiritual development and a home away from home. St. PJ s goal is to help these children heal from their wounds and grow to be successful, productive adults. This year approximately 425 children will call St. PJ s home.
