Hallsville United Methodist Church September- "Back to Life" Sermon Series For some, summer is a nice break from the grind. It's a great time to get away for vacation, visit family and friends and take weekend trips. The end of August and early September is often a time to settle back into our routines. To get our minds wrapped around the new season we will move into a "Back to Life" sermon series in September. Here are the sermons for each Sunday: 6th: Back to Work (Labor Day Weekend) 13th: Back to School (Teacher Appreciation Sunday) 20th: Back to Church 27th: Back to Faith I'm especially excited for Back to School and Church Sundays. On Back to School Sunday, I have asked newly retired Principal, Mike Hight to preach that weekend. We will have gifts for all teachers present in church that day to thank them for their hard work. Mike will preach about the importance of teachers and students. What a great weekend to invite a teacher, right! The next Sunday is Back to Church Sunday. We will have videos on Facebook and invite cards for you to invite friends and family. We will also have an Open House for our new Children's Church ministry named "Bible Adventure Club". Open House is Sunday the 13th from 9:30am until church starts. Invite friends to come get registered and enjoy some food, games and door prizes. So, September is going to be a big month! Start talking up what s going on as we get "Back to Life"! New Sunday School Class Began on August 23rd Beginning Sunday August 23rd we will begin a study group centered on a book study concept. We will meet in the fellowship hall, Sunday mornings at 9:15. The group is open to any and all interested. We plan to begin with the Book, Invitation by Brian D. Russell. "Onebook's Invitation, taught by Dr. Brian Russell, a professor of biblical interpretation at Asbury Theological Seminary in Orlando, Florida, offers a gracious entry into the world and story of the Bible. The ten-week journey involves five short readings per week followed by a thirty-minute video teaching session." For more information contact: Mike Hight- 573-881-3123; Cathy Hight - 573-881-3122 or e-mail: cathy3122@gmail.com ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Invitation to Join this Sunday School Class Going on Now!!! Ron and Nancy Rold lead a small class that is concentrating on reading through the Bible. It is basically for adults, although teens could certainly join in. It is for both men and women. We start at the normal Sunday School time of 9:30 am. We have thus far read through John, Luke, Acts, and Mark in the NT, and Genesis through 1 & 2nd Samuel in the OT. We have just started 1st Kings. For more information please contact Ron or Nancy Rold at 573-696-3223 or e-mail: rrold@aol.com or Dlily01@aol.com ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Beth Moore Sunday School Class Karen Wade leads a women s Sunday School class that is doing a Beth Moore study, "Living Beyond Yourself", Exploring the Fruit of the Spirit. They are on lesson 6 out of 10. This class will continue at least through the end of the year. For more information about this Bible Study class contact Karen Wade at 573-696-2971 or 573-864-0836 or e-mailing her at karenwade45@aol.com. Everyone is welcome.

Thursday Night Women s Bible Study Starting Sept 10th A new Bible Study will be starting on Thursday, September 10, 2015 from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm. This class will end on October 22, 2015. It will be a Beth Moore study, titled, "Sacred Secrets", which "explores the theology of secrets. Secrets can be good or harmful. Some need to be kept between you and God. This study is somewhat lighter than Beth's typical Bible studies, but it does not lack richness or quality." Study Journals will be $15.00 each. For more information about this Bible Study class contact Karen Wade at 573-696-2971 or 573-864-0836 or e-mailing her at karenwade45@aol.com. Everyone is welcome.

Bible Adventure Club Open House We are so excited to begin our fall with a new Children's Ministry opportunity named the "Bible Adventure Club". This is our regular Children's Church event that happens every Sunday for Children between the ages of K-5th grade. Every Sunday parents will check their children in at the "Bible Adventure Club" registration table, go into worship with their children, and then 10 minutes into service children will be dismissed for the "Bible Adventure Club". We will have an open house from 9:30am-10:30am in order to get all children, new children and their parents registered. We will have food, games and prizes for all who attend! See you on Sunday the 13th!

Shoes for Nicaragua We will be collecting shoes for Nicaragua in September. Many people there have no shoes, which leads to injuries and infections, especially the children. Please help by bringing new or like-new used shoes, both children and adult sizes. Remember this is a warm country, so sandals, flip flops, flats, etc. are best. Please: no high heels or boots! We will take them to the PET Project and they will see that they get to Rainbow Network and on to Nicaragua. For more information contact: Connie Reedy at 881-1382 or email hvboss@aol.com

The Festival of Sharing is coming up October 17 at the Mo State Fairgrounds in Sedalia! It is an ingathering of people and agencies to promote and support projects and programs that respond to hunger, poverty and injustice in the world. Churches of many denominations make kits and gather supplies that are used in Missouri and around the world and bring them to the Festival to be distributed where needed. Everyone is invited to come! Learn about the agencies involved, shop for items sold by those agencies, and actively be involved by bagging rice, beans, potatoes, quilt auction, etc.! This year our church is making a kit to be used in Missouri called the Backpack of Love. This is a backpack contains items for children in Foster Care. Often they are removed from a crisis with nothing except the clothes on their backs, afraid and away from people they know. The items in the backpack give them basics they will need and a stuffed friend to love. Backpacks of Love (used by kids ages 4-11) 1 small backpack or small duffle bag (NO backpacks with wheels) 1 small stuffed animal 1 T shirt (child medium, child large, or adult small) 1 pair of socks 1 pkg. 3 pair of underpants 1 narrow tooth comb 1 youth toothbrush (soft and in unopened, original package) 1 tube child flavored toothpaste, 4-6 oz. A small quilt or blanket already donated will be added to the kit. Please bring items to the church by September 30. You can bring one item or a whole kit. Individual items will be put together to form whole kits and taken to the Festival of Sharing October 12. Our church also provides food for the Festival food court with proceeds going to the Festival of Sharing. We need volunteers to help with the food booth selling our famous barbeque ham sandwiches! Come join the fun and help others! Call Connie Reedy at 881-1382 or email hvboss@aol.com for more information.

A great opportunity to see what the PET Project and Container Project are all about! Meet at the church 2:45pm and we will carpool.

If there is an Church Activity or Bible Study planned that may interest your friends or family - forward that page to them. If someone you know is looking for a new church - forward them the newsletter so that they know what is going on in your church home. If there is a Community Event planned (garage sale, bazaar etc.) forward this on to your friends who may like to come. Sometimes if they step through the door for an event - they may feel more comfortable showing up on a Sunday morning. If there are special holiday services and you know of someone looking for a church to attend these services - forward a copy of the newsletter with a personal invitation. Personal invites are the main reason people start attending a church.

The Boy Scouts are planning to take care of the MODOT trash pickup on the 19th of September. We will be camping out on the Church's lawn on the evening of the 18th so we can wake up and take care of the trash pickup? We would welcome any of the Church members that wanted to come out for the trash pick up on Saturday. Thanks. Scott Crowder Troop 13, Committee Chairman Redorc.j@gmail.com

Want to go back to school? Karen Smith of Parents as Teachers has asked if any of our congregation would like to help out with the kindergarten classrooms this fall. Grandparents, retired folks, anyone who might be interested please contact Connie Reedy at 881-1382 or at hvboss@aol.com. What a great way to help the teachers and those little ones just starting school!

Hallsville UMM (Men s Group) wishes to invite all men who seek fellowship, devotion and a little fun to join our group at our monthly meetings on the 2nd Sunday of the month at 7:30 am. We will be having our annual election of officers at the October meeting on Sunday October 11 th. I encourage all Men of the Hallsville United Methodist Church to attend and support our group. We usually arrive around 7-7:30, cooks arrive a little earlier, and two of the men (teams) cook breakfast of their choice. Each team cooks about twice a year depending on number of men in group. We are growing. Breakfast is great, usually includes Biscuits and Gravy because Russell won t come if we do not have them. Breakfast is always good regardless of who is cooking. So a normal meeting would consist of: Arrive between 7:15 and 7:30. 7:30 Opening Prayer by a member (volunteer) After opening prayer Breakfast is served------ 8 AM General meeting which consists of: Fun---We have a great group of men who all relate well and have varying humors from dry to ridiculous (usually Me) but we do have a very sociable group, not to serious but serious enough. Minutes report Treasure report Old Business Discussion---any old business pending from last meeting. New Business Discussion---any new business related to church activities, upcoming events, or Scouts which the men s group Charters (supports). Devotional Time: Devotional is done by a different member each month on a volunteer basis. Some are not comfortable with it so we ask those who are to give it. The topic of the devotional is at the discretion of the individual giving it and always varies. Sometimes Bible related and some times, current event related but always interesting. Closing Prayer, usually by person doing devotional.

The Prayer Team : Karen Wade, Mary Johnson, Jennie Driskill, and Connie Reedy Ever wonder what happens when you submit a prayer request to the Prayer Team? If you request that the prayer team receives your prayer request: they pray until you tell them that prayers are no longer needed. if someone dies, they pray for the family and friends who are grieving for at least two months after the death So, if the person you have requested prayers for no longer needs prayers for whatever reason - please let the prayer team know. You can e-mail them directly or you can e-mail the church office and they will pass the message along. A prayer team works well with 4 people. If you are a person who thinks this may be your gift and calling, there are ways you can be involved in this ministry. You may organize another prayer team which would work with/ but, separately from the existing prayer team. For more information about this ministry and how to go about organizing a Prayer Team - contact Karen Wade at karenwade45@aol.com.
