Narrator: King Nebbie: Narrator: King Nebbie: Narrator: Narrator: God Saved Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego From the Fire! (Hold up Fire). Who can tell me what this is? Right, fire. What do we do when you see fire? We call the fire department, don t we? Do we go play in the fire? No. Do we touch the fire? No. Why not? Right! It s hot! Very hot! We all know to stay as far away from it as we can! We don t want to get burnt! Burns hurt! (Hold up Friends). Do you remember who these guys are? Very good. Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. They were Daniel s friends. In today s story, we ll learn how they end up in a very hot place! Let s listen closely, and we ll see what happened. (Hold up King Nebbie). King Nebuchadnezzar ruled the land of Babylon. We ll call him King Nebbie. That s easier to say. One day, King Nebbie had an idea. Here s what he said: I think I ll make an awesome gold statue! It will be 88 feet high and 9 feet wide! So King Nebbie got his workers to build the great big statue right there in Babylon. They worked very hard for a long, long time. Finally the statue was finished! Then Nebbie sent a message to the governors of all of the other lands, and to all people who worked for them. Here s what he told them: My statue is finished! You must all come and see it! So all the people came and stood in front of his huge gold statue! (People Bowing Down show them standing/front). Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego were there too. (Friends) Then a new rule was made: Here s what the rule was (Open scroll and read): People of every language and every land, In front of the statue, now you stand. When you hear the sound of the musical tune. Here s what you ll do this afternoon: Bow down and worship the statue before you! Or into the furnace you ll go! Yes it s true!

Daniel Lesson/Skit 3: God Saved the Three Friends From the Fire! p2 http://mybiblecrafts.com Let s pretend we re there and we re the ones playing the music. (Pass out instruments, or just lead children to pretend they re playing musical instruments for a minute or two). Narrator: King Nebbie: Narrator: Friends When they heard the music, most did as they were told. They bowed and worshipped the big statue of gold! (Bow People down) But did the friends bow down? NO! They did NOT! Even if they d be thrown into the furnace so hot! When they heard the music that was played, Daniel s friends had faith! They weren t afraid! They wouldn t bow down to any statue of gold! For they LOVED GOD! Their faith made them BOLD! The 2nd commandment says, Worship God only! So they wouldn t bow down. They wouldn t be phonies! Uh-oh. Now what s going to happen? Some men saw that Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego were still standing up. So, they went and told the king. Didn t you say that anyone who didn t bow down and worship the statue would be thrown into the fiery furnace? Those three friends pay no attention to you! (Point to the friends). They re still standing up! That made King Nebbie really mad! So Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego were brought to the king. (Stand Friends in front of king). Is it true, that you won t bow down and worship the image of gold that I set up? I m going to give you another chance. When you hear the sound of the musical tune. Here s what you must do this afternoon: Bow down and worship what s in front of you! Or you ll be thrown into the furnace That is true! What god will be able to save you from the fire then? So just do what you re told, you three young men! But Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego had strong faith like Daniel. They were even bold before the mean king. Here s what they said: If we re thrown into the fiery furnace, our GREAT God who we serve is able to save us! And he will save us! But even if he doesn t We WON T bow down and worship your image of gold! We worship the God of Abraham -- the God of old! Daniel s friends showed their faith, that they weren t afraid! After all that, do you think they prayed? (Whisper) I think so, too. Narrator Now King Nebbie was really, really mad! Here s what he told his workers: King Nebbie: Just for that, make the furnace seven times hotter! Narrator: So the king s workers made the furnace hotter, and hotter and hotter Count with me: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, seven times hotter! King Nebbie: Tie these three up! (Wrap twine around the friends, tie). O.k., good! Now throw them into that blazing hot, fiery furnace! Friends: (Pretend/open door to the furnace). Who-o-o-oa! (Move back). That s hot! Shadrach, Meshach and Abedngo were thrown into the fiery furnace! (Place Friends and angel in the furnace) Down they went! Boom! The fire was so-o-o hot that the flames burnt up the men who threw them in!

Daniel Lesson/Skit 3: God Saved the Three Friends From the Fire! p3 http://mybiblecrafts.com Narrator: King Nebbie: Narrator: King Nebbie: When King Nebbie went to see what was happening in there. (Take Nebbie over to the furnace). This is what he saw: Let s count the men together. 1-2- 3 um 4! King Nebbie was so surprised it made him jump! (Jumps) Hey! Wait a minute! Wasn t there only three men that were tied up and thrown into the furnace? The king s men said, Yep. Three. Uh-huh. That s right. (Nod head). But I see four men in the fire! Maybe we counted wrong. Have the children count them again! Narrator: Nebbie wants us to count them again. Will you count with me again? 1-2- 3 4! Let s say their names so we re sure. (Point to each one as you say the names). Shadrach, Meshach, Abednego, and uh... (Point to angel). Who s this one King Nebbie? King Nebbie: Narrator: King Nebbie: Narrator: Narrator: King Nebbie: (Nebbie looks into furnace). H-m-m-m. The 4th one looks like a son of the gods! And the three are not tied up. They re walking around! So King Nebbie ran up to the door of the furnace (Take Nebbie closer) and shouted to the young men: Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, Come out of there! The king s men opened the door and the three friends came out. (Pretend to open door, pull characters out. Lay angel aside). All the people who were nearby came closer for a good look. They could see that the fire had not hurt them at all! Do their clothes look burnt to you? No. Do their bodies look burnt? No. (Sniff them). They don t even smell like smoke! (Nebbie and Friends). Here, Nebbie, you smell them! (Make sniffing sounds as Nebbie leans over to smell the Friends). (Let children smell them too). Do they smell like smoke to you? No! Now King Nebbie could see for himself that God had sent an angel to save the three friends out of the fire! Nebbie was so amazed, here s what he said: (Reads Daniel 3:28a). Narrator: They trusted in God and said no to the king s rule. There is NO OTHER GOD who is able to save the way THEIR God saved them! Then King Nebbie gave Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego even better jobs and more pay! And, everyone knew that their God the same God we worship -- the God of the Bible, is the ONE TRUE GOD who is able to save us! Transition: Did you like that story? I do too! Let s pray, and have a snack. Then we ll talk about the story and do some fun activities. Prayer Time: Have an assistant or teen pray, then give children a chance to pray.

Daniel Lesson 3 Talk Time God Saved Daniel s Friends From the Fire! Talk Time: Daniel s friends had a choice. They could do what the king said, and bow down to the image, and worship a pretend god, OR they could be thrown into the blazing, hot fire. They said no to the king because they knew God s 10 rules. The 2nd rule says that we should NOT make an image, and bow down and worship it. Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego loved God and wanted to obey him, so they would have to say No to the king! They knew God was able to save them, so they did NOT bow down and worship the statue when they were told to. Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego showed strong faith when they believed that God was able to save them from the fiery furnace; And, God DID save them! Then, even King Nebbie knew that there was NO other God who could save like that! Only our GREAT GOD is able to save us. Here s what God tells us in Isaiah 43:11. (Read Isaiah 43:11). Does God promise to save us from every bad thing that happens? (Let children answer). No, sometimes we will go through hard times. Bad things happen to God s people sometimes. But he does promise to be right there with us. We can just call out to him, and he will help us. And when it s all over, our faith will be stronger than ever! Transition: Now let s pray and ask God to make our faith strong like Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego s faith, so that we will always trust in him, no matter what.

Daniel 3 Fiery Furnace Preschool /Kindergarten Activities Snack Ideas: 1. Gingerbread men with bright orange icing on the bottom half. 2. Gingerbread men in a cup of orange and yellow Jello cubes. Warm-up Activity: Puzzles or coloring pages of the Fiery Furnace, or of Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego. Action Rhyme: Daniel s Friends Had Faith in Our Great God! This true story has, many times, been told: One day King Nebbie made a statue of gold. The king invited his people from all around. Then told them to worship it, and bow down. So most everyone did as they were told. They bowed down and worshiped the image of gold. But not Shadrach, Meshach, and Abedne-go. They ignored the king s rule. They said, No! That would be disobeying God, so they kept standing. They didn t give in, to the king s demanding. So they had to go up, in front of the king. Nebbie asked, Is this true -- this terrible thing -- That you won t bow down, to my image of gold? Of course not! For they worshipped the God of old! No matter what would happen, in Him they would trust. Now that enraged Nebbie with anger and disgust! He ordered the fire, to be made seven times more hot! Would they sin against God? No, they would NOT! So when the three were thrown, into the fiery blaze, God sent an angel, to save them that day! And, when they came out of the fire, they were not hurt! Everyone could see, not even a hair was burnt! They didn t even smell, like the smoke of the flames. Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, were their names. Our God is so GREAT! His power he did show! There is NO OTHER GOD who can save us, No! Hold up five fingers, then ten. Hold hand way up high. Make a circular motion with hand. Hold hand way up high. Make a circular motion with hand.
