One of the seven Precepts of the Catholic Church is: you shall confess your sins at least once a year as to ensure preparation for the Eucharist by the reception of the sacrament of reconciliation, which continues Baptism's work of conversion and forgiveness. Please see the announcement in the bulletin for more information on the dates, times, and locations of our reconciliation services. Also, another announcement. Recently we had a workshop for Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion (EMHC). Extraordinary ministers are those who help me distribute the Lord Jesus in the Eucharist during the Communion procession. One of the many topics that we talked about was the Lord s blessing at our parish of a large number of small children who come up in the Communion procession but are unable to receive our Lord yet, and the recognition that there are many adults who do not (or cannot), for various reasons, receive our Lord Jesus in the Eucharist. We want to help both groups of faithful to make a spiritual communion. What I would ask, if you are not receiving Holy Communion, is that you come in the Communion procession with your arms across your chest (standard practice), and bow to the Lord in the ciborium (that is the small dish reserved for the Body of Christ). As you are doing that, the EMHC or myself, will say to you, while holding the Lord for you to see: receive the Lord Jesus in your heart and your mind. Then you may stand erect and proceed back to your pew. My hope is that this will further instill in all a deep respect and reverence for the Lord Jesus, and, secondarily, to bring uniformity among what the faithful can expect from the EMCH and myself. Thank you in advance for your cooperation, and if you have small children in teaching them what to anticipate. Another topic was hand sanitizing. I have asked the EMHC to please sanitize their hands in the pew before they proceed to the sanctuary. There was a concern that some people take comfort in seeing this action done, but my concern is that this action draws attention away from the Lord and our prayer and onto the EMHC. You can be assured that the EMHC know the importance of sanitizing their hands, and will diligently complete this in the pew. These minor changes stem from the first principle for all liturgical ministers, which is reverence. Reverence is a language that speaks, speaks through our demeanor, our attire, and our manner in which we handle sacred things. Although small, I pray that these might help all of us enter more fully into the Sacred Mysteries. Your Pastor, 2 10:15 a.m. For the people of IHM Parish Sanctuary Lamp in Memory of: Marlie and Mathilda Gallagher SACRAMENTAL CELEBRATIONS Congratulations and God s blessings to: Ben Lange and Caitlin Rugani Married March 28, 2017 Welcome Home, Father Gabriel! We are happy to have Fr. Gabriel home with us here at IHM these next few weeks. Fr. Gabi will be here to celebrate our Holy Week and Easter Liturgies with us. Thank you for helping bring the beauty of life into our church. Please Give Generously on Good FridayWorldwide Collection for the Holy Land Are you thankful you don t live in the Middle East? Are you frightened, disgusted, or saddened by the persecution and maltreatment of Christians there? Do you feel powerless to do anything because you live so far away? All of us here and right now can help our fellow Christians in the Holy Land. We can personally make a difference through our praying, fasting, and almsgiving. On Good Friday, the Church will take up a worldwide collection for the Holy Land, its people and its shrines. Your monetary support is desperately needed by those struggling to maintain our Faith and our physical presence there. This is the time for us to be extra generous. If you won t be at the Good Friday service, consider putting your gift in an envelope marked Good Friday Collection and dropping it in the Sunday basket or mailing it to the parish office. Christianity is rapidly disappearing from the Holy Land. For our brothers and sisters there, it is a daily struggle for survival. Please give generously on Good Friday, April 14.
