Don t forget to offer your sufferings to God and to make sacrifices to save souls. Holy Souls in Purgatory, Conversion to the Faith, Theotis Martin Raymond Moran family (living & deceased) and Parents Darlene Williams Wednesday Open to Grace Loving Jesus, you never ask us to do the impossible, but you often ask us to do something difficult. Help us to remember that you are with us always, even in times of trouble. And help us today and throughout Lent to be open to your grace. Daily Reflection Thursday Pathway to Sainthood Following in the footsteps of the sinless One who took on our shame and guilt so that we need no longer carry it is the pathway every saint has walked and every aspiring saint must follow. When we are clean through the graces of the sacrament of reconciliation, remembering death becomes not a morbid preoccupation, but a sign of hope for ourselves and for all those who look at us and see the likeness of the Savior. "I throw myself at the foot of the Tabernacle like a dog at the foot of his Master." - St. John Vianney Friday A Perfect Model Jesus, we offer our gratitude, for the love of Mary in our lives. She continues to offer us care and concern as our sister in the Communion of Saints. She continues to model for us the way of Christ. She understands our love and our suffering. Saturday Raw Expression Fasting is not an end in itself but instead is, like prayer and the works of mercy, an expression of who we are before God and in relation to others. Fasting should make us generous, not selfrighteous. Lord Jesus, show me the difference between what I truly need and what I may simply want. Sunday Struggling with Temptation Pope Francis encourages us to recall during this Lenten season that our salvation lies in God alone. We can take comfort in the fact that Jesus himself was tempted by evil things. Seeing his battle with his adversary in more human and less cosmic terms can help us when we re struggling with temptation. Volume 63, Number 14, Page 3 ~ From the Pastor ~ My heart's desire and prayer to God for them is that they may be saved. Romans 10:1 My brothers and sisters in Christ, On this 5 th Sunday of Lent, the pruning of our senses takes another step as the statues in church are covered in violet. We already find ourselves one week away from the beginning of the most sacred week of the Church s Liturgical Year - Holy Week. It will begin with Palm Sunday (next Sunday) and then move into the Sacred Triduum - the three days on which the Church most solemnly celebrates the passion, death, and resurrection of Our Lord Jesus Christ. Unfortunately, in many places today, a reductionist mindset has set in, leading people to think that the liturgies of Holy Week are too long or not very important anyway. On the contrary, they are essential to our Catholic identity and our spiritual lives. I want to challenge you, if it is at all possible, to attend the liturgies of Holy Week and especially, the Sacred Triduum. On Palm Sunday, we commemorate the entrance of Our Lord into Jerusalem for the final time - to suffer and die for our sins. We recall that many of the people who greeted Him with Hosanna are the same ones who later cried out crucify Him!. We carry our palms associating ourselves with those who greet Him with joy at one time and betray Him through sin at another time. We recognize that we are one with them whom Jesus loved and died for. On Holy Thursday, we celebrate two of the greatest mysteries of our Faith: the institution of the Sacred Priesthood and the Holy Eucharist. These two gifts of the Lord to His Church are so closely bound that there cannot be one without the other. Without Priests, we do not have access to the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass or the Lord s Sacred Body and Blood in the Holy Eucharist. We show our love for Jesus in the Holy Eucharist by bowing down before Him in adoration. On Good Friday, the Church celebrates the day that Our Lord Jesus died for our sins. There is no Mass celebrated out of respect for His one eternal sacrifice offered to our Father on this day. We gather to celebrate His Passion by listening to His Word, venerating the cross, and receiving Holy Communion. It is a day of prayer and penance. On the evening of Holy Saturday, we gather in darkness and begin the celebration of the Mother of all Vigils. This is the Church s most solemn night of prayer and worship, celebrating the Crucified Son of God who has been raised from the dead! We will hear in God s Word the history of our salvation. Hundreds of thousands throughout the world will be initiated into Christ and His Church through Baptism, Confirmation, and the Holy Eucharist. All of us will be able to sing the Gloria, the Church s song of praise once again, taking upon our lips the praise of the angels. Again, I urge you, as Catholics, if possible, to attend the great celebrations of Holy Week and the Sacred Triduum. May Our Lady help us to understand better and look forward to these sacred days that are coming. In Christ the Lord, Fr.
