PHILOPTOHOS NEWS General Assembly meeting is TODAY, May 18th immediately after liturgy in the upstairs meeting room of the Huffington Center. Lunch will be available. Please come by to say hello and hear Georgia and Dean Ananias speak about their trip on the Costa Concordia. Georgia and Dean are working to improve safety and emergency disaster procedures on ships, other forms of travel, etc. After all the news we have seen recently we should all get a refresher course in disaster and emergency procedures! Of Gods and Kings is the first in an ongoing series of informative films celebrating rare equine breeds and the unique - and often vanishing - cultures around them. MINISTRY NEWS FROM YOUR STEWARDSHIP MINISTRY: Stewardship is our active commitment to use all our time, talents and treasures for the benefit of humankind in grateful acknowledgement of Christ s redeeming love. Please don t forget to submit your yearly 2014 stewardship pledge on the red pledge card. Your pledge and participation then will be acknowledged in the Monthly Herald and will help us with forecasting our working budget for the year. Please join our important ministry and help the Saint Sophia Community in providing a loving, caring and welcoming environment where all belong and grow in the faith through worship, service, witness, and fellowship. LIFE IN FAITH STUDIES WITH FR. JOHN BAKAS Women s Faith Studies classes will continue to meet Mondays at 11:00 AM. Men s Faith Studies classes will continue to meet Wednesdays at 11:00 AM. OLD TESTAMENT WITH FR. ALLAN BOYD The Thursday night Old Testament will continue to meet Thursdays at 7:30 PM. THE WHY S OF ORTHODOXY WITH FR. The Forum Tuesday Evening Fellowship The Forum meets every Tuesday to eat, prayer, and grow in our understanding and love of the Orthodox Christian life. If you re a young professional new to Los Angeles and Saint Sophia Cathedral, the Forum is a great place to make new friends. Dinner is served at 7:15 pm every Tuesday free will offering. Discussion/Presentation/Movie begins at 8:00 pm for the enrichment of our faith. Around 9:00 pm attendees enter the chapel for a beautiful evening prayer service. The Forum is open to all adults, Orthodox and non- Orthodox. Look for the Forum table during coffee hour on Sundays! 7

SOPHIA CAMP Saint Sophia camp is happy to announce its 2014 camp season dates: Session I : Sunday, July 27 - Saturday, Aug. 2, 2014 Session II: Saturday, August 2 - Saturday, Aug. 9, 2014 Applications for staff and counselors will accepted starting April 1st. Please use the counselor/staff application to apply. Saint Sophia Camp's mission is to gather Orthodox youth in an environment in which faith, social interaction and friendships are developed through participation in sessions and activities that are rooted in the Greek Orthodox faith. Please contact SaintSophiaCamp@gmail.com for additional information. 310-869-4499. Don t forget, camper registration will begin May 1st. Join your fellow parishioners in a lively discussion of parenting children of all ages: from toddlers to teens and beyond. Classes are held in the Work/Study Room in the Huffington Center, upstairs near the left-hand side staircase, immediately following Holy Communion and concluding at 12:15 PM. Come with your concerns and questions or just listen; there is no pressure to speak to the class. It's a wonderful way to get acquainted with other parents. There is no fee to attend. The Joy of Parenting Ministry is facilitated by Barbara Kappos, LCSW and Nikolaos Stefanidis, Ph.D. Upcoming classes: Today, May 18, "Empty Nest Syndrome." 9

Our very own Dimitris Liogris, chanter of St Sophia Cathedral will be performing at the Getty Center and Getty Villa for the "Heaven+Earth art of Byzantium". He will perform at the Getty Villa on June 21 at 11:30 am -12:30 pm and 2:30 pm - 3:30 pm. THE ART OF THE GREEK DANCE Come and learn all the dances you need to know for festivals, weddings and other Greek events. Ramsey will teach Pan- Hellenic dances as well as specialized regional traditional dances (Παραδοσιακα). Classes are every Saturday from 10 am 11:45 am at the Huffington Center.
