The Monthly Newsletter of The Central Florida Metal Detecting Club SEPTEMBER 2017 From The President s Desk By Alan James The CFMDC will hold a night hunt at Frank Rendon Park in Daytona on Sept 16 beginning at dusk (8:30 ish). Frank Rendon Park is located approximately 3 miles South of Sun Splash Park. More details at the club meeting. As always, please keep club members and their families that might be having challenges in your thoughts and prayers. A few days ago another Icon of the metal detecting community passed away. Stu Auerbach, the founder of Kellyco was 84 years young. Stu leaves behind a loving family, friends from all over the world and a tremendous metal detecting legacy. In addition to Kellyco, Stu and a few other metal detecting enthusiasts started what would become the Central Florida Metal Detecting Club. Many times Stu told me about the antics of those original characters and how they would meet to discuss the possibilities of forming a metal detecting club and that maybe, just maybe others might want to join in the fun. Well it seems that Stu and the others were right. Over the years, the CFMDC, with Kellyco s support, has grown from a small group of 5 or 6 buddies just getting together to one of the largest club in the entire country. Stu was always proud to say he had a part in starting the CFMDC just as I am proud and privileged to say that I knew one of the Greats! GODSPEED my friend. I ll see you at the next meeting. Alan His funeral service will be Friday, 9/08/17 at 11am at All Saints Episcopal Church, 338 East Lyman Ave. Winter Park, FL. 32789. The phone number is 407-647-3413.
