Fan reaction was swift. A deafening chorus of boos rained down upon Parker. It was as if the fans entirely blamed one player for the Bears defeat.

Rev. Mike Winters Pastor Leigh Clark Minister of Music & Youth Dr. Ray Jones, Jr. Pastor Emeritus WISE BAPTIST NEWS A PUBLICATION FOR MEMBERS AND FRIENDS OF WISE BAPTIST CHURCH August 2, 2016 A place for faith and fellowship with family and friends. Dear church family and friends, On Sunday, August 14, those in our worship service will nominate new deacons to serve. This is an important time that requires reflection and prayer. Why are deacons important in the life of the church? The best source to answer that question is the Bible. Read Acts 6:1-6 and I Timothy 3:8-13. In the book of Acts, the apostles focus was on preaching, teaching, and prayer. However, there were ministry needs they did not have time to meet. Deacons were chosen by the people to help meet those needs and assist the apostles through serving. I Timothy was written to Timothy, who was the pastor of the church at Ephesus. Paul had established the church at Ephesus about fifteen years previously. Paul wrote the letter to Ephesus about ten years after the church began. I Timothy was written a couple of years after the letter to Ephesus. Here is a new church about fifteen years old. Timothy is discouraged and overwhelmed with the ministry needs of the church in Ephesus. I Timothy is written to encourage and help him. Help is on the way in the form of deacon ministry. Deacons assisted the pastor (Timothy, in this case) to carry out the ministry of the church. The word deacon means servant. Acts and I Timothy both refer to deacons serving in order to assist and add to the ministry of the pastor to and through the church. Deacon ministry enabled the church to be more effective. Pray and consider who God would have to serve as our new deacons. To insure that votes are not made for those who are already active deacons, our current deacons are: Jerry Baird, Gil Blackburn, Dan Helton, Ron Helton, John Kennedy, Lewey Lee, Matt Meade, Ed Owens, and Daniel Ray. From Leigh The Sanctuary choir sang beautifully yesterday morning in worship. The anthem, Lord, Listen to Your Children Praying, is always appropriate. But, yesterday it seemed perfectly timed, as well. It is human nature to wonder if God hears our cries; if He is really listening. Throughout the Bible we read of those who are hurting; those who are desperate; those who are lonely; those who are seeking; and of others in many dire circumstances. But, if we continue reading, we see God s presence, His power, His healing, His comfort, His leading, His answers, and most of all, His faithfulness. God has never failed us. I believe that He not only hears our cries, but that He cries with us and for us. So, for those times when you need reassurance that all is not lost that there is surely hope, open God s Holy Word. Read the Psalms to hear David s cries and to see God as Redeemer and Friend. Read the words of encouragement in Hebrews and the reminders of God s tender care and faithfulness in the Gospel of Matthew. You can also look back through your calendar and your prayer journal and see God s majesty and handiwork in your own life! God is not only present, my friends, He is at work! Trust Him and know Him. I am looking forward to resuming our Wednesday night fellowship meal, Bible studies and choir rehearsal this week! Make Wednesday nights a time to refuel your mind and spirit. Please be in prayer for our three young ladies who will be baptized on Sunday morning: Rachel Bailey, Taylor Gardner, and Rachel Lyall. To God be ALL Glory! I give thanks for each of you and for this church. I am praying for you this week; pray for each other, too. Blessings, Leigh Sunday, August 7, we will have our annual Youth/Parent night in the youth building. Our youth ministry involves all youth from grade 7- grade 12. We will begin with dinner at 5:30. Following dinner and fellowship, we will have a time of brainstorming and planning regarding activities, service projects, and our weekly program. Your input and participation are so very important. So, please plan to come! Bring your calendar and your ideas! Months ago, the FLOCK decided to sponsor a child from Belize. We have received our little girl! I will have more info and a picture available at the meeting on Sunday. LIGHT will present We Believe on Sunday, August 14.
