BLESSED TRINITY PARISH From Fr. Doug s Desk We Welcome Our New Minister of Music During the month on July, most of our liturgies have had musical accompaniment by Dan Maier. A number of people have stopped me after Mass and said, Who is that guy? I hope he is our new organist or That guy plays great or words to that effect. Well, indeed Dan is our new music minister. We did not introduce him officially because he was still concluding his former job as a level three research assistant. Dan described his last job to me this way. He conducted neuropsychological assessments and structured psychological interviews of children and families for three research studies involving children with low birth weight and traumatic brain injury, examining their effects on academic achievement, peer-socialization, and family dynamics. As you can see, the job of minister of music will be quite a change from Dan s previous employment. Dan has a bachelor of arts from Cleveland State University where he minored in music. Her also has a Master of Arts degree from Cleveland State. Dan s first love has always been music. He has dabbled in church music ministry his whole life. He plays the guitar, flute, piano and organ. He recently bought a Rogers organ for his home. He has provided worship music as a substitute for St. Helen in Newbury, St. Dominic in Shaker Hts., St. Andrew Kim Korean Catholic Church, Our Lady of Mercy in Tremont and most recently at the Carmelite Monastery in Cleveland Heights. Dan has also worked as a full time pianist at Carousel Dinner Theatre and a freelance musician/teacher in Cleveland and New York. He has done piano and keyboards for musical groups Blood, Sweat and Tears, Philip Glass CLEVELAND, OH Ensemble, Broadway shows, Cleveland Jazz Orchestra and the Cleveland Pops. He is also a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame music instructor. Dan brings all of these past experiences to us, giving us a unique sound that is part tradition, part jazz, part Broadway and part Gospel. It will be unique. Above all it is a prayerful sound. In addition to his professional skills, Dan likes running/fitness, playing the guitar, sports, and writing/listening to music. He has a pleasant, easygoing personality. We hope he will fit in well here as he gets to know our parish and our neighborhood. Dan is married to his lovely wife Nancy. They have a daughter Hannah. They have both been here to participate in funeral liturgies as cantors. We are blessed to have them with us and we hope that this will be the beginning of many years of collaboration in our parish.
