St. Ann s Parish The Most Holy Trinity May 27, 2018 Next Sunday we celebrate the great Solemnity of Corpus Christi, the Most Precious Body and Blood of Christ. The Eucharist is the heart of everything we are as Christians. By eating Jesus body, we are physically with Him on the cross, we are buried with Him, and most importantly, we are risen with Him. I hope you realize the tremendous gift Jesus has given us by turning bread and wine into His Body and Blood for us at every Mass: Jesus offered the once-for-all sacrifice for sin to the Father, and by giving us His flesh to eat, He incorporates us into Himself as parts of His body, so that we can plug into His victory every time we come to Mass and receive the Eucharist. Holy Communion is a gift beyond estimation, but sadly, many Christians have rejected belief in His Real Presence in the Eucharist and see Holy Communion as merely sharing bread to remember Jesus love for us. Even many Catholics, while not specifically rejecting belief in the Real Presence, have lost that sense of awe that we once had for the Eucharist. In recent years, the Church has been encouraging us to revive some of our beautiful old customs that will help restore our sense of awe in the Mass and for the Eucharist. One specific tradition that we have been encouraged to revive is a Corpus Christi Procession. We have been holding a solemn procession every year on the Solemnity of Corpus Christi for several years now. At the end of the 12 Noon Mass, we will place the Eucharist in a monstrance and process it through the streets of our neighborhood. We will literally be bringing Jesus into the streets of our parish! We invite and encourage everyone to join in this beautiful procession. We will have altar servers with incense leading the procession, and are inviting all our First Communion children to come and march in their dresses and suits. We will have a marching band that will lead us in hymns. We will specifically bless any house that asks for a blessing by displaying a candle in the window. Some of you in the past have set up very beautiful prayer tables in front of your house as well. After the procession, the Blessed Sacrament will remain exposed in the chapel until 3:00 PM, when we will hold Benediction. Remember also that the Blessed Sacrament is exposed for adoration in the chapel every Friday from 9:00 AM until 8:00 PM. On First Fridays we have Nocturnal Adoration, where you can come and pray during the night. The Blessed Sacrament remains exposed for worship from 9:00 AM on Friday until 8:00 AM on Saturday. Please make every effort to join us for this beautiful and ancient custom, by which we hope to restore a sense of profound awe before the Eucharist here at St. Ann s and throughout the world. First Friday Men s Holy Hour On Friday, June 1 st, we will have another gathering of Catholic Men in front of the Blessed Sacrament followed by our guest speaker/priest. We welcome Father Brendan Fitzgerald, the Pastor of St. Barnabas in the Woodlawn section of the Bronx. Silent Prayer will take place from 8:00PM to 8:45PM in St. Ann s Chapel. We will then proceed to Father Anthony Hall for our gathering of coffee, food and fellowship. Father Brendan will then speak for 20 minutes about a topic that is relevant to issues that are close to the hearts of Catholic Men. See you Friday! God Bless all of you! The Father DiFalco Council of the Knights of Columbus invites parishioners interested in praying the Liturgy of the Hours to join then for Morning Prayers as a parish community before the 10:00AM Mass on Sunday mornings at 9:30AM in the Chapel. St. Bartholomew s Parish, 15 Palmer Road, Yonkers is having a huge indoor tag sale, rain or shine, on Saturday, June 2, 2018 from 9:30AM - 3:00PM. Bargains galore and great prices.
