Dear Lay and Clergy Members and Guests of the Indiana Annual Conference Session, Our Indiana Annual Conference Session Implementation Team welcomes you to the Indianapolis Convention Center, May 29-31, for this year s gathering. We continue our focus on Transforming the World through the Outwardly Focused Church theme (Mark 12:28-34, Matthew 10:5-16, Matthew 28 and John 13:34-35). Our speakers include Bishop Michael Coyner (Ordination); Bishop Gregory almer (West Ohio, Service of Repentance); Dr. Robert Farr (Missouri Director of the Center for Congregational Excellence, teaching), Rev. Friday s lunch break will be a really exciting time with several food trucks available right outside the doors on Georgia Street, as well as a revival-like worship service. In place of the Wednesday Day of Outreach, we will have a packing party for Kids Against Hunger Meals on Saturday, immediately following the Ordination service. These meals will be distributed to Mission Guatemala and to various food pantries across the state. CONFERENCE REGISTRATION Online registration opens April 2: www.inumc.org/ac14 Registration deadlines: Online registration will be open April 2 through May 14. Mailed registration forms must be postmarked by May 12. Members and guests not registered by the deadline will need to register onsite at the Convention Center. Registration tips: You will be asked to set up a new password due to online program updates. Don t forget to submit your online registration to complete the process and receive a confirmation. Once you have submitted your registration, you will not be able to add additional items. Changes may only be made by email to lisa.timmerman@inumc.org. It is important to remember to always keep an eye on your personal belongings during your stay. Take note of where you park your car and how you enter and exit the Indiana Convention Center. Many of the parking structures as well as the entrances/pathways to the Convention Center look alike and can be confusing if you are not familiar with the city. Never walk around Indianapolis alone at night and always stay on the main streets if you need to venture out. Utilize the "take a buddy" system if you are unfamiliar with the city and want to enjoy downtown without the stress of getting lost. Finally, if you have a problem or question during your stay, please reach out to one of the organizers of Annual Conference and they would be more than happy to assist you. ACCOMMODATIONS Downtown Indianapolis hotel reservation information is now available online at www.inumc.org/ac14 by selecting Annual Conference Housing on the right side of the page. You can also call 317-262-8191. The Indianapolis Convention and Visitors Association is managing all housing requests of our contracted downtown hotels. The Indiana Conference has negotiated housing contracts with eight downtown Indianapolis hotels, all within a few blocks of the Indiana Convention Center. Individual room prices vary from $119 to $138 per night, plus tax, depending on the size of the room and the number of guests per room. SHUTTLES The Hilton Hotel will run shuttles to the Convention Center for guests staying in the hotel. Shuttle times will be posted in the hotel. GUIDE FOR ERSONS WITH DISABILITIES Accessibility: The Indiana Convention Center is an ADA-compliant facility. Most entrances into the Convention Center are fully accessible. Accommodations for persons with disabilities include Braille signage, restrooms, designated parking and wheelchair availability. There will be a golf cart ministry hosted by the Hospitality Team available at the Capitol corridor Help Desk. Assistive Animals: The Indiana Convention Center welcomes guests with disabilities and their assistive animals. While it is not necessary, we encourage guests with assistive animals to contact facility management in advance of the event in order to most appropriately accommodate the needs of the guest and their animal. Drop Off and ick Up oint: ersons with disabilities may be dropped off and/or picked up on the north side of the Convention Center under the Maryland Street canopy. Once inside the Convention doors, the Hospitality Team can call for a golf cart for transportation to the Registration Area, if needed. Entrances/Elevators/Escalators: ower-assisted doors ease movement in and out of the facility. Guests unable to use stairs may access elevators in the Convention Center located in the Crossroads and Hoosier hallways. Escalators also are available throughout the Convention Center. Food and Beverage - Food and beverage areas in the Convention Center are accessible for persons with disabilities. Crossroads Bistro, Capitol Food Court and Landing on Maryland food courts are open according to facility event hours. Large print menus are available upon request. Hearing Enhancement: Hearing enhancement equipment is available in the First Aid Office. arking: arking for persons with disabilities is available in surrounding parking lots and garages. This is available on a first-come, first-served basis. Spaces are marked accordingly, as well as spaces designated for van access only. Restrooms and Water Containers: Accessible restrooms and water containers are located throughout the facility. Wheelchair Availability: Wheelchairs are available on a first-come, first-served basis at the First Aid Office or the Security Office. A government issued picture ID is required as a deposit for the wheelchair. Wheelchairs may not be removed from the facility. A fee will be imposed for any wheelchairs not returned. This bookstore will be located in the Hospitality Area in the Convention Center and will be open Thursday 10 a.m. - 7:30 p.m. and Friday from 7:30 a.m. - 6 p.m. The bookstore will NOT be open on Saturday morning. CHILD CARE Child Care will be available at Annual Conference, May 29-31, at the Indiana Convention Center, for children ages infants through 11 years old and will be staffed by licensed child care providers from Marion County. The cost is $3 per child per session and will be offered both Thursday and Friday during all plenary and worship sessions. It will open 30 minutes before a session and close 30 minutes after the session has ended. Child Care will be provided free of charge during Saturday s service, A Celebration of Ministry: Commissioning and Ordination. arents will need to feed their children, as meals will not be provided or served by Child Care staff. All are invited. The worship will open the morning INUMC Festival of Young reachers, which features and encourages young people (14-30 years old) who aspire to be preachers of the Gospel. You re invited to just come to worship, or attend the festival preaching sessions to be inspired and support our young preachers. THURSDAY, May 29 - Lucille Raines Residence Hosting Lunch and Tour - $10 limit 50 Come to Lucille Raines Residence, 947 N. ennsylvania Street, for lunch and a tour of the Residence. Free shuttles will be available beginning at 11 a.m. from the north side of the Convention Center at the Maryland Street entrance. Lucille Raines Residence is a facility owned and operated by the United Methodist Women of Indiana. The men and women residents are actively engaged in rebuilding their lives from substance abuse. They all share in learning to function independently and as whole people in life. Many find Christ to be the source of a successful recovery. FRIDAY, May 30 God of This City Community Worship Join us for worship on Georgia Street Friday during the lunch break. This outwardly focused worship experience will be a time of celebration and prayer for the whole City of Indianapolis. Worship band, Sixteen Cities will be leading worship that will close with a meaningful time of prayer for everyone. We encourage you to attend. Don t worry about missing lunch. SATURDAY, MAY 31 Kid s Against Hunger Outreach project - $5 limit 250 Want to make a difference in people s lives by providing nutritious, healthy food? Be part of the outreach on Saturday from noon-2 p.m. at the Convention Center. We ll wrap up Annual Conference this year by giving Conference participants, youth groups, church groups, food pantry and feeding ministry supporters the opportunity to pack meals to feed the hungry in Indiana and Guatemala. Topics will include: volunteer and mentor recruiting, family ministry events and fellowship, partnering with parents, bridging generational gaps, communication tips, and curriculum. INUMC Festival of Young reachers, 9 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Limit 225 You are invited to attend the Thursday morning INUMC Festival of Young reachers sessions to celebrate, be inspired, and encourage our young preachers as they deliver their sermons. This Second Annual Festival of Young reachers at Annual Conference showcases and encourages young people (14-28 years old) who are, and aspire to be, preachers of the Gospel. The celebration will continue with the Eat, reach, and raise Dinner on Thursday evening which will highlight young voices in ministry through music and spoken word (see Annual Conference meal choices for dinner registration information). Draeger, M.S., M.Div., Executive Director, Friends & Cancer It is difficult to know how to appropriately and effectively communicate your care, concern and willingness to help, when cancer strikes someone in your congregation, extended family, neighborhood, or workplace. The expertise of 40 cancer professionals and hundreds of survivors and their families will be presented in this workshop, led by Rev. Bonnie Draeger, cancer survivor and leader of the nationwide Friends and Cancer project. articipants will learn communication skills and how to effectively offer their help and support during cancer, and will devise strategies on how to share the ten gifts of friendship from hope and spiritual care, to normalcy, nitty-gritty everyday help, and much more.
