Rev 1:1-3 1 The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave Him to show to His bond-servants, the things which must soon take place; and He sent and communicated it by His angel to His bond-servant John, 2 who testified to the word of God and to the testimony of Jesus Christ, even to all that he saw. 3 Blessed is he who reads and those who hear the words of the prophecy, and heed the things which are written in it; for the time is near.

Zech 14:1-5 1 Behold, a day is coming for the Lord when the spoil taken from you will be divided among you. 2 For I will gather all the nations against Jerusalem to battle, and the city will be captured, the houses plundered, the women ravished and half of the city exiled, but the rest of the people will not be cut off from the city. 3 Then the Lord will go forth and fight against those nations, as when He fights on a day of battle. 4 In that day His feet will stand on the Mount of Olives, which is in front of Jerusalem on the east; and the Mount of Olives will be split in its middle from east to west by a very large valley, so that half of the mountain will move toward the north and the other half toward the south. 5 You will flee by the valley of My mountains, for the valley of the mountains will reach to Azel; yes, you will flee just as you fled before the earthquake in the days of Uzziah king of Judah. Then the Lord, my God, will come, and all the holy ones with Him! The Mount of Olives is a symbol of the human heart. Thus, the enemy forces surrounding Jerusalem represent the evil in the world that surrounds the human heart. When a person receives Jesus as his Lord and Savior, his heart (the Mount of Olives) breaks in contrition, and on that day, Jesus becomes the king of his life. Therefore the passage is not talking about the Second Coming of Jesus Christ, but about individual salvation.

Were these prophecies in Zech. fulfilled literally or figuratively? The Messiah will be pierced (12:10 & 13:6). The Messiah will come humbly, riding on a donkey (9:9). He will be hailed as a king (9:9). He will be betrayed by a friend (13:6). He will be betrayed for 30 pieces of silver (11:12). The betrayal money will be used to purchase a potter's field (11:13). The Messiah will be forsaken by His disciples (13:7).

"If the plain literal sense makes good sense seek no other sense lest it result in nonsense. - Anon.

Christ in Revelation 1. In the gospels Christ is presented in His humiliation. In Revelation Christ is presented in His exaltation. All descriptions of Christ in Revelation are of His majesty, power and glory. 2. 1:5-20 Revealed in His ascended majesty. Ch. 2,3 Revealed as the exalted Lord of the Church. Ch. 4-22 Revealed as the sovereign victor, conqueror, and King, who has defeated all of His foes and secured the eternal Kingdom of God for His people for all eternity.

Phil 2:5-11 5 Have this attitude in yourselves which was also in Christ Jesus, 6 who, although He existed in the form of God, did not regard equality with God a thing to be grasped, 7 but emptied Himself, taking the form of a bond-servant, and being made in the likeness of men. 8 Being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. 9 For this reason also, God highly exalted Him, and bestowed on Him the name which is above every name, 10 so that at the name of Jesus EVERY KNEE WILL BOW, of those who are in heaven and on earth and under the earth, 11 and that every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

There are 35 names and titles for Jesus Christ in the book of Revelation.

The first time our Lord came into this world, He came in the veil of our flesh. His deity was covered over with His manhood. His Godhead was hidden by His humanity. Just once in a while did His deity shine through, as on the Mount of Transfiguration, or as in His miraculous works. But most of the time the glory, the majesty, the deity, the wonder and the marvel of the Son of God, the second person of the Holy Trinity, were veiled. These attributes were covered over in flesh, in our humanity. He was born in a stable. He grew up in poverty. He knew what it was to hunger and to thirst. He was buffeted and beaten and bruised. He was crucified and raised up as a felon before the scoffing gaze of the whole earth.

The last time that this world saw Jesus was when it saw Him hanging in shame, misery and anguish upon the cross. He later appeared to a few of His believing disciples, but the last time that this unbelieving world ever saw Jesus was when it saw Him die as a malefactor, as a criminal, crucified on a Roman cross. That was a part of the plan of God, a part of the immeasurable, illimitable grace and love of our Lord. "By His stripes we are healed."but then is that all the world is ever to see of our Saviour--dying in shame on a cross? No! It is also a part of the plan of God that some day this unbelieving, this blaspheming, this godless world shall see the Son of God in His full character, in glory, in majesty, in the full-orbed wonder and marvel of His Godhead. Then all men shall look upon Him as He really is. They shall see Him holding in His hands the title-deed to the Universe, holding in His hands the authority of all creation in the universe above us, in the universe around us, and in the universe beneath us; holding this world and its destiny in His pierced and loving hands. - W.A. Criswell

Angels: Messagers of the Word of God: 1. To Moses (Acts 7:53; Gal. 3:19; Heb. 2:2) 2. To Daniel (Dan. 7:16-27+; 8:16-26+; 9:20-27+; 10:1+-12:13+) 3. To Zechariah (Zec. 1:9; 2:3; 4:1, 5; 5:5; 6:4, 5) 4. To Zacharias (Luke 1:11-20) 5. To Mary (Luke 1:26-38) and to Joseph (Mat. 1:20-21) * Angels are found in every chapter of Revelation except 4 and 13. * The words angel or angels are used seventy-one times in the book of Revelation--more than in any other book in the Bible.

Why prophecy is important: 1. Prophecy occupies one-fifth (20%) of Scripture; and the Second Coming occupies one-third of that one-fifth. 2. Of the 333 prophecies concerning Christ, only 109 of them were fulfilled in His First Coming, leaving 224 yet to be fulfilled in His Second Coming. 3. Of the forty-six OT prophets, less than ten of them speak of events in Christ's First Coming, while 36 of them speak of events connected with His Second Coming. 4. There are a total of 1,527 OT passages referring to the Second Coming. 5. There are 7,959 verses in the NT, 330 of which refer directly to the Second Coming (1 out of 25). 6. Next to the subject of faith, the subject of the Second Coming is the most dominant subject in the NT. 7. For every time the First Coming is mentioned in the Bible, the Second Coming is mentioned 8 times. 8. For every time the Atonement is mentioned once, the Second Coming is mentioned twice. 9. The Lord refers to His return 21 times. 10. Believers are exhorted over 50 times to be ready for the return of Jesus Christ.

7 blessings given in the book of the Revelation Rev 1:3 3 Blessed is he who reads and those who hear the words of the prophecy, and heed the things which are written in it; for the time is near. Rev 14:13 13 And I heard a voice from heaven, saying, "Write, 'Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from now on!'" "Yes," says the Spirit, "so that they may rest from their labors, for their deeds follow with them." Rev 16:15 15 ("Behold, I am coming like a thief. Blessed is the one who stays awake and keeps his clothes, so that he will not walk about naked and men will not see his shame.") Rev 19:9 9 Then he said to me, "Write, 'Blessed are those who are invited to the marriage supper of the Lamb.'" Rev 20:6 6 Blessed and holy is the one who has a part in the first resurrection; Rev 22:7 7 "And behold, I am coming quickly. Blessed is he who heeds the words of the prophecy of this book." Rev 22:14 14 Blessed are those who wash their robes, so that they may have the right to the tree of life, and may enter by the gates into the city.

In Genesis the earth is created, in Revelation it passes away. In Genesis there is the first rebellion, in Revelation the final rebellion. In Genesis sin enters the human race, in Revelation sin comes to its end. In Genesis the curse begins, In Revelation the curse is banished. In Genesis death begins, in Revelation death is banished. In Genesis man is banished from the garden, in Revelation man is brought back into the garden. In Genesis the dominion of man is removed over the earth, in Revelation man is restored to the divinely intended dominion over the earth.

I have read the Book of Revelation every six weeks in my life as a Christian because I did not want to miss that blessing. - L.W. Munhall Evangelist of the late 19th century and early 20th century

I AM WAITING FOR THE DAWNING 1. I am waiting for the dawning Of the bright and blessèd day, When the darksome night of sorrow Shall have vanished far away When for ever with the Savior, Far beyond this vale of tears, I shall swell the song of worship Through the everlasting years, Through the everlasting years 2. I am looking at the brightness See, it shineth from afar Of the clear and joyous beaming Of the Bright and Morning Star. Through the dark gray mist of morning Do I see its glorious light; Then away with every shadow Of this sad and weary night, Of this sad and weary night. 3. I am waiting for the coming Of the Lord who died for me; Oh, His words have thrilled my spirit, I will come again for thee. I can almost hear His footfall, On the threshold of the door, And my heart, my heart is longing, To be with Him evermore, To be with Him evermore.
