There will be two stages or phases of the abomination of desolation: Phase 1 The presence of the Antichrist himself in the temple in the Holy of Holies (2 Thess. 2:4) Phase 2 The image of the Antichrist in the temple (Rev. 13:11-15). Matt. 24:15, Therefore when you see the ABOMINATION OF DESOLATION which was spoken of through Daniel the prophet, standing in the holy place (let the reader understand), Matt. 24:16, then those who are in Judea must flee to the mountains.
And leave out the court which is outside the temple, and do not measure it, for it has been given to the nations; and they will tread under foot the holy city for fortytwo months. And a great sign appeared in heaven: a woman clothed with the sun, and the moon under her feet, and on her head a crown of twelve stars; and she was with child; and she cried out, being in labor and in pain to give birth. (12:1 2 )
