Quail Lakes Baptist Church Discovering Your Divine Design Individual or Social Style What does the scripture below teach us about our personality? For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful. I know that full well. My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place. When I was woven together in the depths of the earth, your eyes saw my unformed body. All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be. Psalm 139: 13-16 NIV Oh yes, you shaped me first inside, then out; You formed me in my mother s womb. I thank you, High God you re breathtaking! body and soul, I am marvelously made! I worship in adoration what a creation! You know me inside and out, you know every bone in my body, You know exactly how I was made, bit by bit, how I was sculpted from nothing into something. Like an open book, you watched me grow from conception to birth; All the stages of my life were spread out before you, The days of my life all prepared, Before I d even lived one day. Psalm 139:13-16 The Message Can t choose it! for ourselves or for our children Identify and work with it and with others Train up a child: Proverbs 22:6 Understanding of your social style Respect for each one s individuality Give grace to others and yourself Important to Understand Helps us communicate effectively Helps with conflict resolution Gives us an appreciation of diversity Enables us to positively influence others Helps us to work together in unity as the Body of Christ LifeWay / Women God made each and every one of us in a special way for His purpose. He has a plan for you and me. God s character goes into the creation of every person, we are created in His image. The way you are wired is NOT an accident. You have purpose for your life. Social Style Assessment taken and scored 2

Quail Lakes Baptist Church Discovering Your Divine Design Spiritual Gifts The body is a unit, though it is made up of many parts, and through all of its parts are many, they form one body 1 Corinthians 12: 12 NIV Each person is given something to do that shows who God is: Everyone gets in on it, everyone benefits. All kinds of things are handed out by the Spirit, and to all kinds of people, the variety is wonderful! 1 Corinthians 12: 4, 5 The Message Definition: Spiritual gifts are special abilities given by God in order to equip Christians for service. The gifts reveal WHAT you will do in the body, (church), your passion reveals WHERE you will serve. Authentic service flows out of your worship of the Lord and it takes into account your unique giftedness Bill Hybels: Honest to God Rick Warren states in his book, The Purpose-Driven Life, that the way you re wired is not an accident. God didn t give you your abilities and gifts for selfish purposes, He gave them to you to serve. A need is not always a call (for you, at this season on your life) Remember, Jesus Calls. Knowing your spiritual gifts, determines what you will bring to the ministry You will be better prepared to say yes or no to ministry opportunities when you know your God-given design Spiritual Gifts assessment taken and scored. 3

Quail Lakes Baptist Church Discovering Your Divine Design Experience Principals You are loved, in Christ, who knows who you are. He knows your name. You are valuable because He made you in His image. And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose. Good=benefit Romans 8:28-29 NIV That is why we can be so sure that every detail in our lives of love for God is worked into something good. Romans 8: 28-29 The Message God allows life experiences for the purpose of molding/reshaping us, they may redirect our choices Painful experiences may leave scars on us, as a result of action from others to us Some experiences are ones we go through alone God intentionally allows us to go through difficult experiences to equip us for ministry to others He comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort others. When others are troubled, we will be able to give them the same comfort God has given us. 2 Corinthians 1:4 NIV The very experiences that you have resented or regretted most in your life, the ones you ve wanted to hide and forget, are the experiences that God wants you to use to help others. Pastor Rick Warren Your experiences become the resume of your life use them for ministry. Join or lead a support group: Divorce Recovery Grief Share Health Issues Financial Situations (Financial Peace University) Job loss or change Celebrate Recovery Begin a Ministry. Some of the ministries started as a result of experiences: Pure Desire: Conquer Men s curriculum; Betrayal & Beyond women s curriculum Sign Language Prison Ministry Move Through the fear, do it scared, open that business, follow a dream, passion Begin serving, start a ministry or join an exciting ministry You have something to give to Quail Lakes Baptist Church 4

Quail Lakes Baptist Church Discovering Your Divine Design Explore Your Experiences Thinking back over your life, what are the life events that have had a huge impact on your life? Life Map Sheet Examine these six areas of your life, write down a few experiences that shaped you: Family: What did you learn growing up in your family? Educational: What were your favorite subjects in school? Vocational: What jobs or volunteer opportunities have you been most effective in, enjoyed the most? Spiritual: What have been your most meaningful times with God? Who was influential in your life? Ministry: How/what serving opportunities have your participated in? Painful: What problems, hurts and trials have you experienced? Today you are YOU That is truer than true There is no one alive who is YOUER than you! YOU ARE LOVED! Dr. Suess 5

Quail Lakes Baptist Church Discovering Your Divine Design Experience Principles God knows hard times come. He knows we fail. Often we contribute to our own suffering. He wants to help us change, repent, learn and grow. 1. God wants to: Relate to us He goes to a lot of effort He reaches out to us in order to help us connect. I will walk among you, I will be your God and you will be my people. 1 Lev 26:12 NIV What is it like for God to care so much and do all He does, only to have us shrink back from Him in fear, avoid Him, resent Him or simply misunderstand Him It cannot be easy to be the real God, competing with all the emotional distortions of Him and often having to let us walk away from Him Do you call out and ask Him for His help and grace in the situations you are in, in your difficult times? You might feel alienated and disconnected from God. This disconnection will cause you to be filled with self- condemnation and fear of God s wrath instead of His love. In the absence of relationship, we experience condemnation. When we do not feel grace, love and care from God or from another person, the void within us does not stay empty, it does not stay neutral: We are filled with self-judgment and The fear of God s judgment 2. Loss of Connection Leads to the presence of guilt feelings. When people are isolated or disconnected from letting others into their vulnerabilities because of old injuries, trust issues, or hurts, they often experience themselves as bad and engage in a lot of negative self- talk View yourself as loved, not good. Dr. Cyndi Telander 2011 3. God s Design He wants us to learn of His trustworthiness To receive care from other people Emotional baggage, past hurts that aren t healed will stay with us in the present. John Townsend: Where is God? 4. Moving Forward God does not care where you have been. He cares where you are going. So, what do you need to be saved from, what do you want freedom from so you can move forward? o From worry o From debt o From my anger, from my past, I can t let it go! o From my bad habits, from myself o From fear Jesus saves you from something. Jesus saves you for something, Jesus saves you by something Pastor Rick Warren: The Purpose of Christmas You are redeemed, righteous, and holy Bart Millard-Mercy Me: Women of Faith 2013 1 Cor 1:20 NIV 6

Quail Lakes Baptist Church Discovering Your Divine Design Desire/Passion Definition: A God-given capacity to fervently attach ourselves to an object (people, a cause, an idea, an area of ministry) over an extended period of time to meet a need Passion directs us to the most fruitful use of our spiritual gifts Our passion answers the questions of where our ministry of service will be If we serve according to our passion, we won t grow as easily tired of serving in our ministry Do not lag in zeal, be ardent in spirit, and serve the Lord Romans 12:11 NIV Discovering Your Passion Before answering these questions, keep in mind the following: Passion may be related to your past experiences Passion may change according to the season of life Passion may lead you outside your local church campus or it may lead you to start a new ministry that God has placed on your heart Passion may propel you to make It happen, put something in place 1. List 3 dreams you have tucked away in your heart that have yet to come true 2. What local, global, social, political, and/or church issues stir you emotionally? 3. If time and resources were not a concern, and you knew that you could not fail, what would you long to do? 4. What conversation would keep you talking late into the night? What makes you weep or want to pound the table? 5. What makes your heart sing? Complete this sentence: At the end of my life, I would like to look back and know that I had done something about: 7

Quail Lakes Baptist Church Discovering Your Divine Design Growth Phase What do these scriptures teach us about spiritual growth and maturing? By this time, you ought to be teachers yourselves, yet here I find you needing someone to sit down with you and go over the basics on God again, starting from square one baby s milk, when you should have been on solid food long ago! Milk is for beginners, inexperienced in God s ways solid food is for the mature, who have some practice in telling right from wrong. So come on, let s leave the preschool finger painting exercises on Christ and get on with the grad work of art. Grow up in Christ. The basic foundational truths are in place: turning your back on salvation by self-help and turning to trust toward God, baptismal instructions, laying on of hands, resurrection of the dead, eternal judgment. God helping us, we will do so. Hebrews 5:12-14, 6:1-3 The Message But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. To Him be glory both now and forever! Amen 2 Peter 3:18 NIV Each of us is still growing in the Lord Various natural life seasons will play into our calling No Matter where you are in terms of growth, there is a place for you What do these scriptures teach us about our priorities, and how should we use our time? Be careful, then how you live, not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord s will is. Ephesians 5:15-17 NIV Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. Matthew 6:19-20 NIV 8

Quail Lakes Baptist Church Discovering Your Divine Design Natural Strengths God has given each of us abilities to do certain things well Romans 12: 6a NLT Your natural abilities are the talents you were born with All our abilities come from God Average person has 500-700 different skills and abilities Whatever you do, do it for the glory of God (to make Him famous) 1 Corinthians 10:31 NLT Every ability can be used for His glory There are different abilities to perform service, but the same God gives ability to all for their particular service 1 Corinthians 12:6 TEV What am I able to do? What does God want me to do? Your abilities were not just given to make a living; God gave them to you for your ministry Pastor Rick Warren God has given you some special abilities; be sure to use them to help each other, passing on to others God s many kinds of blessings 1 Peter 4:10 LB Uncovering Your Natural Strengths What hobbies or other recreational pursuits have you done in which you felt a sense of accomplishment and a degree of mastery? Examples: gardening, music, athletics, catering or cooking, computer skills, etc. What abilities did those hobbies require? What do you consider to be your top natural talents/abilities? 9
