2018 Wilkes-Barre City Calendar Mayor Tony George

A Message from Mayor Tony George This past year, my administration continued to make strides in restoring Law & Order. We take every measure possible to achieve financial stability while continuing to fight crime, combat blight, rebuild infrastructure, and provide city residents the level of services they deserve and expect. We continue to strengthen our intergovernmental relationships and encourage businesses to stay and grow in Wilkes-Barre so we can achieve long term economic development. Wilkes-Barre works hand-in-hand with many top notch nonprofit organizations which promote humanitarianism, faith, education and the arts and that provide services and representation to underserved populations. These partnerships continue to ensure that Wilkes-Barre progresses as a healthy, productive city that has the capability to properly serve its residents and visitors. Looking forward to this New Year, the 2018 goals for Mayor George s administration are: Solomon Creek Flood Protection, North Washington Street and East Division Street Bridge Restoration Continuing to make neighborhoods safe by actively addressing blight and abandoned properties through our Neighborhood Impact Team and enforcement of the Quality of Life ordinance. Encourage business development within the City through our Steps to Start a Business Guide Improve technology to increase quality service to citizens Provide our police officers and fire fighters with the best equipment and tools so they can stay safe while protecting our citizens It is the duty of my administration to listen to the needs and concerns of Wilkes-Barre s citizens. We strive to remedy as many issues as possible, as soon as possible. The Mayor s Help Line can be reached at (570) 821-1111. The annual city calendar is a valuable tool that will continue to provide order to our city. The calendar provides Wilkes-Barre s residents with information about: Garbage, Recycling and Yard Waste Collection Schedules; Holidays and Special Events; City Hall Phone Directory and more. The 2018 Calendar is also available on the city s website at www.wilkes-barre.city I wish everyone a healthy, safe, and prosperous new year. Sincerely, Mayor Anthony Tony George A note on the Quality of Life Ordinance: In order to promote the health, safety, and the general welfare of the residents of Wilkes-Barre and to help to create a clean environment, the City has established a Quality of Life Ordinance. The quality of life and community pride of the residents of Wilkes-Barre are negatively impacted by the occurrences and existence of the Quality of Life violations. The ordinance addresses: Lack of maintenance of properties, littering, improper storage of trash and rubbish, storage of inoperable/non-registered vehicles, high grass and weeds, graffiti, accumulation of snow and ice on sidewalks, outside placement of indoor furniture, animal waste accumulation, and lack of proper permits. Tickets are issued for all violations and fines must be paid within 10 days. Fines range from $50-$1,000. If tickets are not paid within 10 days, a citation will be issued. Let's all work together to keep Wilkes-Barre City a clean and safe place to live, work, and play!
