Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails. [1 Corinthians 13:4-8]

Karl Barth 1886-1968 When asked to sum up his theology in a few words, replied, Jesus loves me this I know, for the Bible tells me so.
Anna B Warner 1827-1915 Anna Warner s mother died when she was young; her father lost everything in 1867. She and her sister turned to writing for an income. She wrote 31 novels and the two of them led Bible studies for forty years at the west Point Military Academy. In one of her novels she included a poem called Jesus Loves Me. 1 John 4:16 So we have come to know and to believe the love that God has for us. God is love, and whoever abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him. Gen 1:27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them. God is Love God is Love To live in his image is to live in love See B. Marriage is honourable Hebrews 13:4 (ESV) Let marriage be held in honour among all, and let the marriage bed be undefiled, for God will judge the sexually immoral and adulterous. Marriage is honourable It is to be kept holy It is the only biblical model for sexual intimacy It is a microcosm of Christ and the Church (Eph 5:21ff) One whole biblical book is devoted to it
Marriage is a covenant Proverbs 2:17; Ezekiel 16:8; Malachi 2:14 Biblical covenants were Solemn e.g. cut a covenant Permanent e.g. of salt Unconditional e.g. Hosea 2:18-19 Marked with a sign e.g. a rainbow; a tree In Western society, we have tried to separate sex from covenant
No NT word for sex In the NT there is either gamos (= marriage) or immorality. porneia = sexual immorality; unfaithfulness (Matthew 5:32; 19:9; Galatians 5:19; Ephesians 5:3) including adultery, pre-marital sex, incest, homosexuality, lesbianism, bestiality, paedophilia and voyeurism. adelgeia = sensuality; indecency; vice (Rom 13:13; Gal 5:19). moicheia = adultery (Matt 5:27,32; 19:9; Rom 13:9; 1 Corinthians 6:9). epithumia = desire, longing, lust, passion, covetousness (Ephesians 4:22; Colossians 3:5). pathos = passion, used in either a positive or a negative sense (Colossians 3:5). akatharsia = impurity; immorality (Galatians 5:19; Ephesians 5:3; Colossians 3:5). akathartos = unclean; impure (Ephesians 4:5).
