The Praise Center Story Front view of Open Bible Praise Center In November of 1996, four couples sat around a dining room table sharing a vision that God had laid on each of their hearts. The vision was for a place people could come as they were to praise and worship, a place where the whole Bible was taught, and a place to find God. It was also essential to create a place for the hurting to come and find rest. One of the most important parts of the vision was to make it a safe and fun place for children to come and for teenagers to hangout. The search for a building ended when an empty sale barn was found. Over the next 6 weeks, untold hours were spent cleaning, painting and remodeling the building. Every spare moment, spare dollar, and spare favor owed was used to get things ready for the first service that was held on January 12, 1997. From four families around a table, we had 43 people in the service that cold January day. Seven years later, Open Bible Praise Center purchased land on Hwy 87 and began the process of building the 30,000 square foot facility you see today. Done in phases, services were first held in what now is the gymnasium while the remaining areas were completed. What you see is not the end of a huge building contract but instead the blood sweat and tears of many talented carpenters, electricians, plumbers and volunteers that donated their time and their hard work for Kingdom work. As our building and ministries grew, our name shortened. Though we are still affiliated with the Open Bible Churches, we are known in the community and by our congregation as The Praise Center. The Praise Center consists of one large building that sits on 3 acres of land located less than a half mile from Interstate 70 in Boonville, Missouri. Inside the 20,000 square foot main floor you will find the full-sized gymnasium, commercial kitchen, restrooms with shower facilities, fellowship hall, and several well-appointed rooms for education purposes. Also located on the main floor is the 8000 square foot sanctuary. Sanctuary Main floor The sanctuary seats over 250 people; the balcony will hold an additional 100 and allows access to the remaining second floor. The cry room, nursery, and toddler rooms are close by for the convenience of our parents. The second floor of the Praise Center holds offices, library, additional Sunday school rooms, restrooms, a kitchenette, and a 2-level theater and game room. The church and property are valued at over 2.5 million dollars. Aside from a small note on the building, the church is debt free. The average attendance is 150 with the average age between 35-45. Currently we have seasonal Sunday school classes, a morning worship service on Sunday s, and a Wednesday night Bible study and youth service. There is a paid full time senior pastor and a part time administrator. The rest of the staff are volunteers. The music is a blend of contemporary and modern songs. There are ministries for children, youth, and women, with opportunity for more ministries to be developed in the church. There is an excellent potential for growth. 3 P age
Mission Trip to Trinidad Local Food Bank Service Project Part Time Student Ministry Pastor The Praise Center is currently seeking a part time Student Ministry Pastor to add to our staff. The candidate must be a self-motivated individual with a pastor s heart. He will be responsible for the entire youth ministry of the church, and some general pastoral duties. We are looking for someone who can naturally connect with current adult leaders as well as being able to lead, supervise, and develop volunteer youth leaders. Most importantly, the Student Ministry Pastor should be passionate about helping students at every level of spiritual growth, assisting them in becoming fully devoted followers of Christ. The new Student Ministry Pastor would be expected to organize and plan activities for senior high and middle school youth for our current Sunday school hour and Wednesday night meetings, as well as new opportunities for evangelism, worship, and regular outreach functions. We have a small but active youth group who are currently involved in summer youth camp, Breakaway and local service projects. Many of our students are involved in a leadership scholarship program here in our church. In addition, we have sent a group on the Open Bible Youth Mission trip for the last 3 years and have students already preparing to go next summer. Qualifications and Position Requirements One who exhibits a personal and growing relationship with God, a teachable spirit, and a healthy personal life. One who has sought continued education in a related field, a degree is preferable but not required. Also someone who has basic administrative skills. A personal lifestyle congruent with biblical requirements for leaders (1 Timothy 3:1-7; Titus 1:7-9). One who can create and execute a long-term vision for OBPC s youth ministry. One who is gifted and called to youth ministry, loves young people, and has a passion for evangelism and outreach, both personally and at the ministry level. An engaging teacher, with a strong biblical and theological background and who agrees with Open Bibles Statement of Faith. A self-motivated leader capable of casting and imparting vision for ministry as well as possessing relational skills with students, parents, and staff. Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities Lead and organize effective youth programs implementing fellowship, worship, biblical teaching, discipleship and evangelism, as well as ministry and mission opportunities. Recruit, train and shepherd volunteer youth staff with diverse gifts and personalities. Provide spiritual direction to youth on an individual basis. Maintain contact with students and parents, keeping them informed of ongoing activities. Keep parents updated on ministry strategies and plans in a way that encourages partnership and involvement. Support parents in effectively fulfilling their Christian parenting roles, in concert with other pastoral staff. Assist the Administrative Board in the development and oversight of the youth ministry budget, and manage in a timely fashion student fees and permission slips for events and trips. Seek to integrate youth ministry into all phases of church life to create a culture that is intentionally inter-generational, striving to unite with and complement other church ministries. Participate as needed or requested in the evaluation and development of the overall church ministry.
