Christ the King Sunday November 22, 2015 8:30 a.m. AS WE GATHER Jesus. It s all about Him. It s only about Him. It s always about Him. Today s service helps us to focus upon the One who came once to save us and will come again to claim us as His own forever. The Last Sunday of the Church Year is a day to worship our reigning and coming King. As we will see, He is not a detached King, keeping a safe distance from His people. No, He is a King who loves to come near and show us that our righteousness and salvation are in Him alone. Jesus. It s all about Him and what He has done, is doing, and will do for you! PRELUDE The congregation turns and faces the cross as the procession approaches the altar reminding us that Christ leads us into the presence of God. Please stand ENTRANCE HYMN 905 Come, Thou Almighty King INVOCATION In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. 1
CONFESSION AND ABSOLUTION The Sun of righteousness shall rise with shining beams of healing. Let us gather under the wings of God s mercy. Gracious God, we acknowledge that we are sinners and we confess our sins those known to us that burden our hearts, and those unknown to us but seen by You. We know that before You nothing remains hidden, and in You everything is revealed. Free us from the slavery of sin; liberate us from the bondage of guilt; work in us that which is pleasing in Your sight; for the sake of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. From the house of David, God raised up a mighty Savior. Blessed be the Lord God of Israel, who comes to set us free. Remembering the covenant, God delivered us from our enemies. Blessed be the Lord God of Israel, who comes to set us free. Before God we are holy and righteous, free to worship without fear. Blessed be the Lord God of Israel, who comes to set us free. With a heart full of mercy and compassion, God saves us and forgives us all our sins. Christ, the dawn from on high, shines upon us, and by the light of the Holy Spirit guides our feet into the way of peace. Amen. His clothing was as white as snow; the hair of his head was white like wool. His throne was flaming with fire, and its wheels were all ablaze. 10 A river of fire was flowing, coming out from before him. Thousands upon thousands attended him; ten thousand times ten thousand stood before him. The court was seated, and the books were opened. 13 "In my vision at night I looked, and there before me was one like a son of man, coming with the clouds of heaven. He approached the Ancient of Days and was led into his presence. 14 He was given authority, glory and sovereign power; all peoples, nations and men of every language worshiped him. His dominion is an everlasting dominion that will not pass away, and his kingdom is one that will never be destroyed. Lector: This is the Word of the Lord. Thanks be to God. 3

Please stand The Holy Gospel according to St. John, the eighteenth chapter. Glory to You, O Lord. HOLY GOSPEL John 18:33-37 33 Pilate then went back inside the palace, summoned Jesus and asked him, "Are you the king of the Jews?" 34 "Is that your own idea," Jesus asked, "or did others talk to you about me?" 35 "Am I a Jew?" Pilate replied. "It was your people and your chief priests who handed you over to me. What is it you have done?" 36 Jesus said, "My kingdom is not of this world. If it were, my servants would fight to prevent my arrest by the Jews. But now my kingdom is from another place." 37 "You are a king, then!" said Pilate. Jesus answered, "You are right in saying I am a king. In fact, for this reason I was born, and for this I came into the world, to testify to the truth. Everyone on the side of truth listens to me." This is the Gospel of the Lord. Praise to You, O Christ. HYMN OF THE WORD 336 Lo! He Comes with Clouds Descending PROCLAMATION OF THE WORD 5
