First Presbyterian Church of Foley, Alabama Volume January, December, 2017, 2016 No. 2015 6-7, Summer Volume Edition 2016, 2015, No. (June No. 1 12 and July, 2017) Greetings from the Pastor s Desk, You may hear a collective sigh of relief coming from the church during this time of year. Advent, Christmas, Epiphany, Lent, Easter, and Pentecost have all come and gone. It is Ordinary Time again, a time when life in the church becomes, well, ordinary. For the next six months or so we will seek to live out the gospel in daily life without the pomp and circumstance of major holidays or preparatory seasons. Some of that time no doubt will be used for vacations and time away to renew our bodies, minds, and spirits. As you travel, I hope you will take your worship life with you. It is not only an opportunity to see how other brothers and sisters in Christ live out the good news in their context, but a chance to make new friends in distant places. In other words, don t forget to go to church while you enjoy your time away! You may recall that a year ago I shared the story of a fun practice of a church I pastored a number of years ago. Every summer, they challenged their members not only to go to church when they were out of town, but to bring back a bulletin to post on a bulletin board near their choir room. Many of you took me up on that challenge, and I have thoroughly enjoyed reading how God is working in places not only across the country, but around the world. I will be clearing that bulletin board outside my study very soon, but I hope that you will continue to share those bulletins with me and the rest of the congregation. Feel free to sign them and post them when you get back home. I hope to read not only of fun adventures, but fresh evidence of ordinary Christians living in ordinary places, doing the work Christ gives us even in ordinary time! See you in church! Jonathan

Words On The Waves Volume 2017, No. 6-7 page 4 The Fred Vosloh Memorial Golf Tournament On Sunday, May 7th, 2017, First Presbyterian Church of Foley held its annual golf tournament in memory of Fred Vosloh. Funds raised at this tournament are being used to support our scholarship program for First Presbyterian college students. The tournament was held at GlenLakes golf course and we had couldn t have pulled it off without the help from the staff, David Musial and Mike Haney. This year was extra special as the tournament also honored our famous coach, Ivan Jones. Coach has worked tirelessly on all of the previous tournaments held in Fred s honor. This year he has been slowed down by health issues, so the tournament honored both of these great men. Last year we as a church contributed to eight students who are furthering their education. Fred was such a great supporter of children and youth. We are proud to honor him each year with this tournament. We all have a vested interest in the education of our youth. We encouraged everyone to step up to the plate if they had played in the past, been a hole sponsor, had a child benefit from a scholarship or just wanted to be involved for the first time. Your participation was amazing! Coach was able to come to the closing ceremony thanks to Julia Jones for making that happen. Dot Vosloh presented Coach with an Outstanding Achievement Award plaque for his years of dedicated service. We had a very successful tournament and shout outs for thanks goes to Dot Vosloh, George James, Ron Arrington, Jack Kimsey, Tom Giles, Jeff Underwood and Coach Ivan Jones.

Words On The Waves Volume 2017, No. 6-7 page 5 A few Recent Quilts Our Prayers and Squares quilt ministry has been quite busy this year. They have taken the summer off and will resume in September. As a reminder Each quilt is sewn with love and each knot on the quilts represent a prayer on the recipient s behalf. If you know of someone in need of a prayer quilt, contact Dot Vosloh at 955-5522. Sunday Funday On the second Sunday of each Month, beginning on June 11, 2017, we kick off our First Sunday Funday. All children are invited to participate in a two hour program of fun activities including art projects, cooking games, experiments, mission projects and anything else we can dream up for fun and fellowship. In June, it will be an ICE Fun Day. We will paint with ice (yes, you heard it right) and make homemade ice cream with fun toppings. We will meet from 2-4 pm. Tentatively, our July Program will include a scavenger hunt and other surprises. Kids, bring your friends and plan to have FUN. Questions, call Lacie Maynard 978-1431.
