Adam and Eve Part 5 by Victor Torres Hello children. Last week, we learned a big lesson. We learned that God is in control of everything. It was God who made the forbidden fruit (forbidden means not allowed, or banned) to look beautiful and tasty and it will also give wisdom. It was God who put that tree right in the middle of the garden. It was also God who made both Adam and Eve sinful and disobedient by nature. It was God who made the devil very good at tricking people. (We learned last week that he is able to deceive or trick the whole world) God is in control of everything and He never makes mistakes. Even before we are born, He has written in His book everything we would do. Psa 139:16 but with your own eyes you saw my body being formed. Even before I was born, you had written in your book everything I would do. So when Adam and Eve disobeyed Him, God did not say Oops, I shouldn't have made that fruit look beautiful and tasty. I shouldn't have made it so it would give wisdom to those who eat it. I shouldn't have put it in the middle of the garden. In fact, I shouldn't have made it in the first place. Also, I shouldn't have made Adam and Eve disobedient by nature. I shouldn't have made the devil so good at tricking people. No, He did not say those because: Isa 46:9 Remember what happened long ago. Remember, I am God and there is no other God. There is no other like me. Isa 46:10 "In the beginning, I told you what would happen in the end. A long time ago, I told you things that have not happened yet. When I plan something, it happens. I do whatever I want to do. Let's take a closer look at the parts of the story of Adam and Eve where we left off last week: Gen 3:7 Right away they saw what they had done, and they realized they were naked. Then they sewed fig leaves together to make something to cover themselves. Gen 3:8 Late in the afternoon a breeze began to blow, and the man and woman

heard the LORD God walking in the garden. They were frightened and hid behind some trees. Gen 3:9 The LORD called out to the man and asked, "Where are you?" God asked Adam Where are you?. Does this mean He didn't know where Adam was? Of course not. He knew exactly where Adam was, and He knew exactly what Adam and Eve did. He has written it in His book even before He created them. Gen 3:10 The man answered, "I was naked, and when I heard you walking through the garden, I was frightened and hid!" When do we do these kids? When are we afraid of our parents and hide from them? When we did something wrong of course. Kids, when you do or say bad things, you should be afraid of punishment from us. But why do we punish you? Remember this verse from the study Parents and Children? Pro 13:24 If you love your children, you will correct them; if you don't love them, you won't correct them. Pretty clear isn't it? We correct you because we love you. That is exactly what God does to His children when He accepts us as children. Heb 12:6 The Lord disciplines everyone he loves; he punishes everyone he accepts as a child." So you shouldn't get mad at your parents when they punish you when you do wrong. You must always remember that we are doing it out of our love for you. I used to get mad at my dad when he spanked me when I was a kid. But when I grew up and understood that he did that out of his love for me, I wrote him a letter to thank him for disciplining me when I was a child. The Lord disciplines everyone he loves. We will all be disciplined by God because He loves us all. Discipline is not only punishment. It is also teaching you what to do in this life. The word comes from the word disciple or follower. We want you to follow our example as we follow Christ. 1Co 11:1 You must follow my example, as I follow the example of Christ. What do we call kids who are not taught by their parents and corrected and always get what they want? Spoiled brats. What do spoiled brats do to their

parents? Pro 29:15 Correction and discipline are good for children. If they have their own way [spoiled brats], they will make their mothers ashamed of them. This verse tells us 2 very good points that I want you to remember: 1. Correction and discipline are good for you. 2. If we let you get your own way, you will continue to do and say bad things that will bring shame to us. But not only to us, it will also bring shame to you. Let us look at another translation of this verse that tells us why correction and discipline is good for you. Pro 29:15 The rod and reproof give wisdom, but a child left to himself brings shame to his mother. So the rod and reproof (which is the same as correction and discipline) gives you wisdom. It will make you wise! So that is really good for you. But wait a second, doesn't the forbidden fruit do that also? It gives wisdom to the one who eats it? The answer is yes, it does. But it's a different kind of wisdom. It's called the wisdom of this world by the Bible. The wisdom that we are trying to teach you here is the wisdom of God. 1Co 3:19 For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God; for it is written, "He takes the wise in their own craftiness." That is what God thinks about the wisdom of this world, they are foolishness to Him. But we are all like Adam and Eve. We want the wisdom of this world first, before we want the wisdom that is coming from God. Eve sinned by wanting to eat the forbidden fruit, before even actually eating it. Gen 3:6 The woman stared at the fruit. It looked beautiful and tasty. She wanted the wisdom that it would give her, and she ate some of the fruit. Her husband was there with her, so she gave some to him, and he ate it too. Here is how she sinned: 1Jn 2:15 Don't love the world or anything that belongs to the world. If you love the world, you cannot love the Father. 1Jn 2:16 For all that is in the world the desires of the flesh and the desires of the eyes and pride of life is not from the Father but is from the world.

Eve loved the world and the things that belongs to the world. How do we know this? Let's compare Genesis 3:6 and 1John 2:16 to see how Eve loved the world and the things that belong to this world. Gen 3:6 The woman stared at the fruit. It looked beautiful and tasty. She wanted the wisdom that it would give her, and she ate some of the fruit. Her husband was there with her, so she gave some to him, and he ate it too. 1Jn 2:16 For all that is in the world the desires of the flesh and the desires of the eyes and pride of life is not from the Father but is from the world. Now let us see how Eve did exactly the things that God says we shouldn't do. 1Jn 2:16 For all that is in the world [1] the desires of the flesh [Eve stared at the fruit and it looked tasty to her] and [2] the desires of the eyes [Eve stared at the fruit and it looked beautiful to her] [3] and pride of life [she wanted the wisdom that it would give her] is not from the Father but is from the world. We all do this kids. We all love the world and the things that belong to this world. Who should we love instead? Mat 22:36 "Teacher, what is the most important commandment in the Law?" Mat 22:37 Jesus answered: Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, and mind. Mat 22:38 This is the great and first commandment. Loving God with all your heart, soul and mind means we should love Him more than anyone else, even more than ourselves. Mat 22:39 And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. Our neighbor is everyone. We should love everyone else as ourselves. We can love the people of this world without following the bad things that they do. Here is how we should love God and His children. 1Jn 5:1 Whoever believes that Jesus is the Messiah is a child of God; and whoever loves a father loves his child also. 1Jn 5:2 This is how we know that we love God's children: it is by loving God and obeying his commands. 1Jn 5:3 For our love for God means that we obey his commands. And his commands are not too hard for us,

There it is kids! We love God by obeying Him. We love His children by loving God. How do we love God again? By obeying His commandments, what He tells us to do. Joh 14:15 "If you love me, you will obey my commandments. There's no other way around it. If we don't obey Him, we can't tell Him we love Him. To love God is to obey what He tells you to do. What did He tell you to do about us your parents? Col 3:20 Children must always obey their parents. This pleases the Lord. You want to make God happy? Then always obey your parents. But Adam and Eve didn't have parents, right? Well, they didn't have physical parents but Christ who created them is their Father. And they did not obey Christ when He told them not to eat of the fruit of the tree of knowledge of good and evil. Who did they obey instead? Gen 3:2 The woman answered, "God said we could eat fruit from any tree in the garden, Gen 3:3 except the one in the middle. He told us not to eat fruit from that tree or even to touch it. If we do, we will die." Gen 3:4 "No, you won't!" the snake [the devil] replied. Gen 3:5 "God understands what will happen on the day you eat fruit from that tree. You will see what you have done, and you will know the difference between right and wrong, just as God does." That's right, they believed and obeyed the devil instead. Obedience is very important kids. That is the only way we can show our love for God, for our parents, and for the children of God. But didn't God say that if Adam or Eve eat the forbidden fruit, that they will die? Gen 2:16 And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, "You may surely eat of every tree of the garden, Gen 2:17 but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die." Why didn't they die? We know they lived after they ate that fruit because they had sons and daughters. The Bible tells us that Adam lived up to 930 years old.

Gen 5:5 And all the days that Adam lived were nine hundred and thirty years: and he died. Actually kids, they really did die. The Lord was speaking in code words when He told Adam he would die when He eats the forbidden fruit. Here is what the Lord meant: Eph 2:1 In the past you were dead because you sinned and fought against God. There it is kids! When we sin, we die spiritually. We kill the new man in us. We kill Jesus Christ in us when we sin. Eph 2:2 You followed the ways of this world and obeyed the devil. He rules the world, and his spirit has power over everyone who doesn't obey God. We fight against God when we follow the ways of this world (celebrating their traditions like Christmas, Halloween, birthdays and Easter). We obey the devil when we disobey our parents. Eph 2:3 among whom we all once lived in the passions of our flesh, carrying out the desires of the body and the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, like the rest of mankind. That is how the devil tricks us into disobeying God. He tells us to do what we want, carrying out the desires of the body and the mind, instead of obeying God, instead of loving God. There is also a part of Eph 2:3 that tells us that we are all by nature disobedient. I highlighted that part this time: Eph 2:3 among whom we all once lived in the passions of our flesh, carrying out the desires of the body and the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, like the rest of mankind. The code words that the Bible used in Genesis that we are disobedient by nature is that we are made out of soil and naked. The code word used here in Ephesians is children of wrath. Remember how God created the earth first? Gen 1:2 And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. Without form means vain, empty, useless. Void means the same thing empty or lifeless. Lifeless = Dead! We are all spiritually dead first. We are in darkness

first before God gives us light and darkness was upon the face of the deep. This is all God's doing And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. But God did not leave the earth like that. He created light first, in the first day. Then He started to give the earth form, and then He put life in it. He is the one who gives real life to us. Eph 2:4 But God, who is rich in mercy, for His great love with which He loved us Eph 2:5 (even when we were dead in sins) has made us alive together with Christ (by grace you are saved), What do we always tell you? 1) Study the Bible 2) Pray often 3) Do well in your schooling 4) Help in household chores 5) Be respectful and kind to your parents and to everyone It is by obeying us that tells us that you love us. It is by obeying us that makes God happy. Col 3:20 Children must always obey their parents. This pleases the Lord. Dear children, you must remember that this world and everything in it are just temporary, we should not love it or anything that belongs to it. We should love God and His children by obeying Him. If we obey Him, we will live forever. 1Jn 2:17 The world and the desires it causes are disappearing. But if we obey God, we will live forever. Next week, we will look more closely at the tree of the knowledge of good and evil and the tree of life.
