Monday, July 9 Tel Aviv Following a delicious Israeli breakfast at the hotel, begin the day at the Palmach Museum. Tour this state-of-the-art, multimedia facility that offers an insider s look into the War of Independence through the eyes of the Palmach, the elite strike-force unit of Israel s pre-state army. Depart for the trendy Sarona neighborhood, a former German Templar colony that has transformed into a thriving urban complex with new restaurants, cafés, and beautiful outdoor spaces. Noa Gefen, Executive Vice-Chairman of the Society for Preservation of Israel Heritage Sites (SPIHS), will lead a walking tour of Sarona and discuss the partnership between SPIHS and JNF that has helped restore Sarona and preserve many other historical sites across Israel. Tuesday, July 10 Tel Aviv / North Following breakfast and hotel check-out, depart north along the scenic coastal route to explore Caesarea, former Roman capital of the region. Tour this ancient city and see excavations from the time of the Crusades, the historic aqueduct, and the site of the old amphitheater that has been restored and converted to a concert venue. Proceed to the Tishbi Winery, which offers views of the lush vineyards of the Tishbi Estate. Following a tour of the grounds, enjoy a guided wine-tasting and a delicious lunch. Then, continue to the charming village of Zichron Ya akov, one of Israel s first modern settlements. Stroll along the cobblestone streets and see stunning views of the Mediterranean shore, explore the quaint brick-paved downtown district, and learn about the town s rich Zionist history. Later this afternoon, visit the Atlit Detention Camp, where thousands of Jewish immigrants were imprisoned during the British Mandate upon arriving into Israel. Wednesday, July 11 Western Galilee Akko Following breakfast, depart north for Rosh HaNikra, one of Israel s most incredible natural wonders. Here, tour the cavernous tunnels and caves of the Rosh HaNikra Grottoes and take in the turquoise blue waters of the Mediterranean Continue to Shtula, a small village located on the northern border. Enjoy lunch and Kurdish hospitality in the private home of resident Shula Giladi, who will share her captivating story of moving to Israel as one of the 13 founding families of the local community. Head to the city of Akko, the cultural melting pot of the north steeped in history. Explore the ancient gates, towers, and secret passageways of this Crusader city that Napoleon Bonaparte set up his army s camp during his Siege of Acre in 1799. Visit the Botanical Garden to see ancient and exotic species of plants, before stopping at the Western Galilee Now Visitor s Center, a remarkable multimedia facility that showcases the vast array of activities and attractions in the area. Meet with Michal Shiloah, Executive Director of Western Galilee Now (WGN), who will discuss how the partnership between WGN and JNF has significantly enhanced economic, social, and tourism opportunities in the area. Take an exciting tour of the famous Akko Prison, which was built during the Ottoman period and later used by the British Mandate to imprison underground Jewish fighters. As well as a tour of the Knights Halls that served as the headquarters of the Second Crusader Kingdom from 1191 1291. Enjoy some time on your own exploring the city before reconvening for dinner at Alto Dairy Farm, a boutique dairy farm and restaurant founded by a family in the Western Galilee. Meet with the owners and hear about their experience of running a small business in the area as a participating member of WGN, a consortium of artisanal businesses, local entrepreneurs, and tourism operators. Thursday, July 12 North/Jerusalem Following breakfast and hotel check-out, continue traveling north and tour the Baha i Gardens in Haifa to see the beauty that is described as the eighth wonder of the world.
