I Peter 3:15 Fr. Pat came over to school and blessed the classroom doors this week. Each teacher decorated their door with an Advent wreath so when students enter the room they are reminded of the themes of hope, love, joy and peace represented on Advent wreath. It s one of the many things we are doing to prepare ourselves for the birth of Jesus. We also have special classroom prayers and challenges. The challenge for week one of Advent is, How do we help others know that God gives us hope? Great question! Fortunately, we don t have to search hard for the answer, it is an easy one. God gives us hope in the people we meet during out school day by simple acts of love that are reflections of Christ. Sincere words, compliments, listening, smiling-these are hopeful actions displayed at Sacred Heart-student to student, teacher to student, parent to teacher. This week I received an email from one of our grandparents. She attended our grandparent s day last week and wrote: I would like to compliment you on your Grandparent Day this Tuesday. I have taught for 18 years and recently retired. I was now experiencing this day from the receiving end. I was moved by the absolute love and kindness that I experienced at your school. It was very apparent from the moment I arrived. My grandson is in kindergarten, and when asked what he liked most about school, he said, Everything. That answer is a testament to the outstanding teachers and community instilled in your school. Under your guidance, your school has achieved something that has proved to be allusive and very difficult to find these days. From the homily, to the active participation of your students in the mass, and the moving words you expressed to us, this experience was very impressive and sincere. Thank you for the wonderful day, and for all that you and your staff do to make my grandson LOVE school! Her email expressed the ideals we strive to achieve as a Catholic school. We will continually work to ensure every student LOVES school, feels cared about, experiences success, and knows Jesus as the person who brings them hope in good and bad times. Peace to you this Advent season. In Christ, Maureen Engen Principal
