Agnes Gladys Starling Creech Stanley Underwood Funeral Home Notice 03/08/2007 Smithfield Agnes Gladys Starling Stanley, age 88, died Wednesday evening in Smithfield Manor. Born October 29, 1918 in the Boon Hill Township of Johnston County, she was a daughter of the late Luther and Mary Etta Hodge Starling and was preceded in death by her husband, L. R. Roby Stanley, Jr. and her son, L. R. Robin Stanley, III. For many years she owned and operated the Permanent Wave Hair Salon on Market Street in Smithfield before becoming an inspector for the NC Board of Cosmetology. She was a charter member of the Sharon Baptist Church, where she was active in all areas and serving the WMU with dedication. She was a sixty-one year member of the Smithfield Chapter #121 Order of the Eastern Star, where she served in many offices including Worthy Matron for two terms and as District Grand Matron. After her retirement she spent many years at Carolina Beach, barefoot and enjoying her friends. At the same time, becoming involved with the local island of lights, but never forgetting Smithfield was home. A graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Friday in the Oakland Heights Cemetery with the Rev. Christopher Ingram officiating. Surviving are her daughters, Dianne C. Shirley, Jean S. Howell and Sharon S. Parrish all of Smithfield, sister, Edna Earle Peterson of Smithfield, eight grandchildren and four great grandchildren. The family will receive friends at the cemetery following the service and at other times at the home of Sharon and Sammy Parrish, 1415 Hill Road, Smithfield, NC 27577. After being widowed 45 years age, she raised her three children with strength, character and grace. She will always be remembered by all of her family as one who loved and was loved very much, was a great cook who enjoyed preparing big meals including everyone's favorites, and to the end showed individual concern for the joy, success, and well being of all of her family. Daisy Crocker Hill December 9, 2000 SELMA - Daisy Crocker Hill, 92, died Thursday in Smithfield Manor. Born December 2, 1908 in Johnston County to the late Wade H. and Effie Starling Crocker, she was the widow of Willie H. Hill. The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. prior to the funeral services, which will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday in the Chapel of Parrish Funeral Home with the Rev. Chad Allen to officiate. Entombment will follow in Crocker Cemetery. Electa Wilson Starling Champion Fayetteville Observer, The (NC) July 31, 1999 SANFORD -- Mrs. Electa Wilson Starling Champion, 82, of 3013 Byrd Ave. died Friday in Central Carolina Hospital. The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday in Tramway Baptist Church by the Rev. Scott Wilson. Burial will be in Lee Memory Gardens. Mrs. Champion is survived by three sons, Curtis L. Champion and Hubert E. Champion, both of Sanford, and Donald R. Champion of Crofton, Md.; two daughters, Virginia Smith of Sanford and Peggy Flowers of Coats; a sister, Joyce Herring of Erwin; 11 grandchildren; 17 greatgrandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Jimmie Hughey Starling July 2, 2002 SMITHFIELD -- Mrs. Jimmie Hughey Starling, 73, died at her residence at 1874 Stevens Chapel Church Road Saturday. Graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Oakland Heights Cemetery. Surviving: husband, J. Ralph Starling; brother, Jerry Hughey of Veldese; a number of nieces and nephews. Lonnie Roby Stanley, III March 24, 2000 SMITHFIELD - Robin Stanley, 45, of Carolina Beach, died in the New Hanover Medical Center at Wilmington, Wednesday. He was a native of Smithfield, a son of Mrs. Agnes S. Stanley of Carolina Beach and the late L. Roby Stanley Jr. After graduating from Smithfield High School in 1972 he attended Louisburg College and then entered the tobacco business where he was a buyer in Africa, Argentina, Korea, Brazil and Italy. He retired from the tobacco business about three years ago and went into the real estate business at Carolina Beach. He was a member of the Carolina Beach Fire Department and a member of the water & Sewer committee for the Town of Carolina Beach. Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday from the chapel of Underwood Funeral Home, conducted by Rev. Lee Colbert. Burial will follow in Oakland Heights Cemetery. Surviving in addition to his mother, wife, Linda Ryan Stanley; sons, Bryan Lars Stanley and Christopher Wilson Stanley of Smithfield; step-daughter, Lisa Rowan of Matthews; sisters, Jean McLamb, Sharon Worley and Dianne Shirley, all of Smithfield; three grandchildren. Robin is also survived by his very special Labrador retriever, "Taur" who accompanied him on trips to Italy and other European countries.

The family will receive friends at Underwood Funeral Home Friday from 7-9 p.m. Loueanzy Batten Starling Smithfield Herald 10/23/1959 Mrs. Loueanzy (Lou) Starling, 88, of Route 3, Selma, died suddenly Wednesday at her home. She had been under a doctor s care for some time. She was a native of Johnston County and had lived in the county her entire life. Her husband, Andrew J. Starling, died in 1930. A funeral service has been scheduled for this (Friday) afternoon at 3:30 at Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church in Pine Level with the pastor, the Rev. Troy C. Nunnery, and the Rev. C. W. Kirby officiating and interment following in the Starling Cemetery near the home. Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. Ernest Corbett of Route 3, Selma, Mrs. Claude Chappell and Mrs. W. H. Williams, both of Selma, and Mrs. Garland Wilkins of Route 2, Selma; one son, Preston Starling of Selma; and 34 grandchildren. Mary Joyce Starling Herring Dunn Daily Record 04/17/2003 Joyce S. Herring, 79, of 302 N. 12th St., Erwin, died Tuesday evening at Britthaven of Harnett. She was retired from Erwin Mills after 43 years of service. She was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Milford Lee Starling. Funeral services will be held Friday at 3 p.m. at Price Funeral Home in Erwin by the Rev. Sherrill Pope. Mildred Lee Jackson Godwin Skinner & Smith Funeral Home Notice 02/12/2008 Mrs. Mildred Jackson Godwin, 87, of Dun died Monday at Betsy Johnson Regional Hospital. She was the daughter of the late Harvey and Mary Rachel Jackson. She was preceded in death by her husband Thurman C. Godwin. Mildred was employed by Belk s Department Store for 35 years before retiring. She was a member of the Dunn s Women s Club, and was a volunteer at Betsy Johnson Hospital for 15 years. She was also a member of Godwin Presbyterian Church. A graveside service will be held at Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Old Bluff Cemetery by Rev. Frank Daniels. She is survived by two sons, T.C. Godwin, Jr. and wife Barbara of Dunn, Steve Godwin of Godwin, five grandchildren, Angela G. She was the daughter of the late Hessie Parrish and James Calvin Parrish. She was preceded in death by her husband, Russell Starling; a daughter-in-law, Frances Starling; and granddaughter, Stephanie Renee Starling. Percy Leon Starling June 4, 2007 KENLY -- Percy Leon Starling died Saturday, June 2, 2007. Percy was born in Johnston County on October 26,1918. He was a World War II veteran after which he spent his life farming. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Doris Starling; son, Gerald Starling, wife, Sandra; daughter, Glenda MacKeen, husband, Duncan; grandsons, Chris Starling, wife Angie, Drew Starling, Blake MacKeen; granddaughter, Leslie MacKeen; great-grandchildren, Kayla and Jake Starling; brother, Norwood Starling; many nieces and nephews and special friend, Megan Hontz. Visitation will be held 7:00 to 9:00 Monday evening, June 4, 2007 in the social hall of Kenly Missionary Church. The service will be at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 5, 2007 at Kenly Missionary Baptist Church, Kenly, North Carolina. The family would especially like to thank Dr. Renee Watson as well as the fourth floor staff of Johnston Memorial Hospital and Advantage Hospice and Home Care for their support and care. Ruby Wilson Starling Fayetteville Observer, The (NC) April 28, 2008 Mrs. Ruby Wilson Starling, 88, of Fayetteville, died Saturday, April 26, 2008, in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center. She was born Dec. 18, 1919, to Launa Adeline Bennett Wilson and Alonza Lewis Wilson of Harnett County. She received her education in the Harnett County school system in Lillington. Mrs. Starling was predeceased by her parents and by her loving husband, Clyde Wilson Starling. She was also predeceased by all of her siblings: Gladys Bennett Wilson, Alma Wilson Wicker, Lela Wilson Beasley, Robert Wilson, Erma Wilson Broglin, Raymond Wilson, Troy Wilson and Frances Wilson Nulty. She is survived by her nieces and nephews, Hilda Broglin Kirby, Le Roy Wilson, Edward Wilson, Elizabeth Anne Wilson, Linda Wilson O'Quinn, Woodrow Wilson and Una Nulty Horstman; and by her beloved sister-in-law, Thelma Sercy Wilson. Mrs. Starling's career began in the 1940s as a cashier in the Fort Bragg commissary system. She retired from the A&P Tea Co. after more than 33 years of service. She was an active member of Immanuel Baptist Church for more than 60 years, serving in the choir, visitation of shut-ins and

preparation of many delicious dishes for the fellowship gatherings of the congregation and their guests. She was a faithful participant in Sunday school, women's circles, WMU and the senior group called the VIPs. A service of worship and celebration of her life will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 29, 2008, in Immanuel Baptist Church on Hull Road. Officiating will be the Rev. David Crumpler and the Rev. Ken Earwood. Burial will take place immediately following the worship service at Lafayette Memorial Park. A visitation will take place from 6 to 8 tonight, April 28, 2008, at Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home in Fayetteville; and at other times at the home of Mrs. Hilda Kirby at 215 N. Born in Johnston County on June 2, 1914, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Chloe Hodge Starling. Her husband was the late Robert Lee Stancil. Mrs. Stancil was the retired secretary for Thompson's Garage in Selma and was a member of Selma Baptist Church. Funeral services will be held Monday at 6:00 p.m. in the chapel of Parrish Funeral Home in Selma with Rev. Chad Allen officiating. Burial will be Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. in Selma Memorial Gardens. Surviving are: a son, John W. Stancil and wife, Angelia of Wilson; daughter, Linda S. Creech and husband, Billy Ray of Selma; sisters, Arlean S. Maglaughlin of Collinsville, TX, Kathleen Hinnant of Selma, and Joyce Brown of Smithfield; three grandchildren; and two great grandchildren. Troy Lewis Pollard Parrish Funeral Home Notice 01/30/2008 Smithfield - Troy Lewis Pollard, 80, of 204 Skyland Drive died Tuesday morning at Johnston Memorial Hospital. Born January 9, 1928 in Johnston County, he was the son of the late John and Mattie Pollard. Troy was a long time farmer and a member of Sanders Chapel United Methodist Church in the Brogden community. He was a US Army veteran. Troy was preceded in death by two wives, Edna Earle Pollard and Helen Mitchell Pollard. Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 11:00 AM at Sanders Chapel United Methodist Church with Reverend Joseph Franklin and Reverend Craig Langdon officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
