CULTURAL ACHIEVEMENTS OVERALL TROPHY WINNER BBSBEC has raised the victory flag once again by winning the Overall Winner Trophy of PTU Zonal Youth Festival-2014 of Zone-IV, held at SVIET, Banur from 18 th to 20 th Oct. 2014. In the Zonal festival colleges affiliated to PTU from 10 districts of Punjab had participated. Our students again brought laurels to the institute by winning the Overall Winner Trophy of PTU Inter Zonal Youth Festival-2014 held at CT group of Institutions, Jalandhar from 4 th to 6 th Nov. 2014. In total, 70 colleges of Punjab state, affiliated to PTU had participated in this Youth festival. BBSBEC has won the PTU Inter Zonal Youth Festival for the third consecutive year. SPORTS ACHIEVEMENTS The college boasts of excellent facilities for indoor games and sports. Two Lawn Tennis Courts, two Basketball Courts, two Cricket Practice Pitches and grounds for track & field events and for almost all the games such as Badminton, Hockey, Football, Handball, Kabaddi and Kho-Kho are available. The Sports department has been conducting the interbranch and inter-batch competitions of various sports on a regular note. Khalsai Khed Utsav 11 th Khalsai Khed Utsav, under the flagship of SGPC, was organized in BBSBEC from October 14th to 16 th, 2014. This annual Khed Utsav witnessed the participation of 34 SGPC colleges for total 14 events including hockey, football, basketball, badminton, kabaddi (Punjab Style), kabaddi (national style), volleyball, gatka, table tennis, weightlifting, chess, kho-kho, handball and athletics. Approximately 3500 students of different colleges participated in this mega sports event. Surjit Singh Rakhra on Tuesday inaugurated the traditional Khalsai games organised by SGPC at Baba Banda Singh Bahadur Engineering College. 2. Power lifting - 2nd (in 105kg plus weight category) Addressing participants, Jathedar Avtar Singh (President SGPC & BBSB Education Trust) urged the sportspersons to participate in the events maintaining the culture and traditions of KHALSAI KHED UTSAV. He further said through such games sportspersons could display their talent besides keeping them away from social evils like drug and alcohol abuse. ACTIVIRIES AT GLANCE PROJECT DEMONSTRATION Social Awareness & Medical Camp 14th November, 2014 An exhibition of the projects made by final year students of Mechanical Engineering Department was organized on 31st October, 2014. Students of final year demonstrated and explained their projects in the exhibition. A total of 23 projects fabricated by final year mechanical engineering students and 11 projects by Industrial engineering students were showcased. Mechanical engineering students of 1 ST, 2 ND and 3 RD year were benefited from this exhibition. Senior faculty members of the department gave their feedback and valuable suggestions to the participating students. The Social Awareness and Medical Camp, was inaugurated by S. Avtar Singh Sampla, with the aim of students learning through community service and also making the rural masses aware of the hygiene, health and environment issues. The belief got a shape when an Interaction of our worthy Secretary College Trust S. Avtar Singh Sampla and Dr GS Lamba, Principal, BBSBEC took place with the Gram Panchayat of Village Sampla of Distt. Fatehgarh Sahib where their issues, requirements and solutions were discussed. Women Employment Skills awareness was also encouraged by Mehar Baba Chand Trust, Bassi Pathana. They brought Phulkaris and various other items made by different ladies who get training in the Trust for different employment skills free of cost. A free medical check-up camp was also organized jointly by the college medical team and Shelly Clinic, Fatehgarh Sahib. Patients were advised medicines and treatment. WORKSHOP ON SOLID WORKS Department of Mechanical Engineering organized a 5 days workshop on SOLIDWORKS from 17 th November, 2014 to 21 st November, 2014. Prof. Peeyush Gaba coordinated the show and Prof. Rajmeet Singh, Prof. Sanpreet Singh and Prof. Gagandeep Singh gave hands on training to students on how to create parts, assemblies, drawings, and to simulate models in real world conditions. Total 15 students & 19 students participated in these workshops consecutively. All the students were given a certification on Basics of Solid Works. With more practice, the students would be able to take the CSWA exam and obtain the credential to get the best jobs. Customers like DEMECH Esscano Power and Essae-Teraoka demand highly skilled engineers that have SolidWorks skills. The workshop had been an eye opener for the students who want to pursue their career in the simulation & modelling industry. ACTIVITIES AT GLANCE TRAINING AND PLACEMENT CELL BEST TEACHER OF THE YEAR FABRICATION AND COMPARISON The Training and placement cell of BBSBEC is disseminating its professional services to the students by maintaining strong industrial and corporate relationship. The students are groomed in technical and soft skills during the pre- placement sessions conducted from time to time. Recently, the T&P cell successfully conducted a PDP program for the final year B.Tech students. T&P cell coordinated various on and off campus placement opportunities for passing out students. The students took active part in the placements for Zensar Technologies, Hewlett Packard, Larsen & Toubro, Naggaro Technologies, Nec Technologies, Anglo Eastern shipping management company, Sixth Sense Mobile Solutions, KEC International, eclerx Pune, Unisys Bangalore, Aon Hewitt Gurgaon, HCL Technologies Ltd and Asahi Glass Ltd etc. Many students successfully got placed with a package ranging from 2.65 Lpa to 3.15 Lpa. The passion for joining the defence services is duly taken care of by enrolling the prefinal year students under the University Entry Scheme (UES). The students actively participate in this scheme so that they can formally adopt defence services as their career. Dr. Satwinder Singh was conferred with the ISTE Section Best Teacher Award-2014 in the ISTE Section level convention held at Rayat Institute of Engineering & Information Tech, Railmajra Nawanshahr on 31 Oct 2014. He was honoured in the presence of Mr. Manjit Singh Director TRBL and Dr. Butta Singh Dean Academics, Punjab Technical University, Jalandhar. Mechanical & Industrial Engg students of final year were given a presentation by Dr. Niraj Bala on the importance and applications of composite materials. She had presented a research paper on Fabrication and Comparison of Wear Behaviour of Aluminium-Flyash Composite with Pure Aluminium at International Conference on Advancements & Futuristic Trends in Mechanical & Materials Engg (AFTMME-14), held at PTU Jalandhar. Briefing about her research she motivated the students to do their project work related to advanced composite materials by using cheaper and easily available reinforcements like flyash, silica and river sand. She also emphasized that the conventional aluminium matrix used in composite materials is now being replaced by magnesium because of the superior properties owned by the latter. Stood At Top, Won 1 st Prize (OVERHEAD CRANE) Four students Inderjeet Singh, Loveneet Singh, Manpreet Singh, and Yudhvir Singh of 7 th semester EE department participated in Regional ISTE convention at Rayat Institute of Engg. And Technology (Pb.) for the event MINERVA- 2014 and received 1 st prize for the project entitled Working model of an overhead crane with RF remote control in BEST B.Tech PROJECT AWARDS 14. ACTIVITIES AT GLANCE QUALITY DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM FOR FACULTY WITH EXPERIENCE LESS THAN 6 YEARS A two day quality development program was held on 8 th 9 th December, 2014. Dr. Harjinder Kaur (Ex-Mayor, Chandigarh) shared her thoughts about Ethos and Personal Discipline to be followed by the Faculty. Later on a keynote Lecture was delivered by Dr. Surinderbir Singh (Ex Principal, GNDEC, Ldh) on the topic Techniques to Enhance Student Participation in the Teaching Learning Process. Then Dr. Pushpinder Singh Brought Light on the importance of Developing Personality Development Skills in the Faculty. CSI NATIONAL SEMINAR A two-day seminar on Cyber Warfare, under the aegis of Computer Society of India (CSI), started amidst the technical ambience, exploring the cyber security domains. Dr. Gurmohan Singh Walia (V.C. SGGSW University) arrived in as the chief guest and Avtar Singh Sampla (Secretary Baba Banda Singh Bahadur Education Trust) made his presence felt as the guest of honour. Besides them, Dr. Anirban Basu (Chairman Div V, CSI) & Dr. DK Jain (Executive Director, CDAC, Mohali) also contributed with their valuable suggestions and inputs regarding information security. The next day was carried forward by Dr. (Ms.) PK Tulsi (Dean, Research and Development, NITTTR, Chandigarh) by an interesting explanation of Communication skills & Effective Conduct of Class Exploiting Current Training Techniques. An Overview was also given on the importance of basic Office Productivity Tools using MS Office. Full participation of the faculty was witnessed in these two days. Inter-University Cultural Festival 10 students of our college have been selected to represent PTU for North India Inter-University Cultural Festival to be held at Jammu University, from 15 th -19 th January, 2015. Poster Making The keynote speakers presented their papers on different threat-focused, risk-based and data-centric security programs. Research scholars, academicians & students turned up with innovative issues and discussed the technological developments and possibilities in cyber warfare. College principal, Maj. Gen. (Dr.) G.S. Lamba thanked the dignitaries and expressed that such seminars would contribute to national security, economic prosperity and public safety. Seminar was coordinated under the guidance of, Prof. R.S Uppal (HOD CSE & IT). It is a matter of great pride that the seminar had an overwhelming response. It received 172 papers from different Universities of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi, out of which 86 papers were selected for proceedings. Alumni Meet & Convocation ALUMNI MEET CONVOCATION On 13 th Dec, 2014, the college organized an Alumni meet of the pass-out batches from 1993 to 2006. It was a time and event for old relationships to be cherished, celebrated and refreshed and new ones to be formed. Large number of alumni from our country and abroad participated. The meet started with the welcome speech by Alumni Cell coordinator Dr. Manpreet Kaur. Convocation is a very important event in the life of a student because it is virtually impossible to compete in today s global economy without a college degree. BBSBEC organized it s convocation on 13 th December, 2014. The occasion was graced by honourable Dr. Daljit Singh Cheema (Education Minister, Punjab), S. Harmel Singh Tohra (Member Trust), S. Avtar Singh Samla (Secretary Trust), S. Narinder Singh Tiwana (Member Trust), Dr. P.S. Bhatti (Director College Trust), Dr. Pritpal Singh (Registrar SGGSWU, FGS). College Principal Dr. Gurcharan Singh Lamba briefly shared the vision, our areas of focused work and the specific needs. Gurbalinder Singh Brar from Australia from batch 1993 shared their expertise and experiences. Alumni from other batches also expressed their feelings on this occasion. Everybody was very happy and enjoyed the meet. The students presented a cultural program & video, reflecting the good old times & memories of the Alumni. Principal of the college Dr. G.S. Lamba presented the annual report of the college highlighting the achievements of institution during current year. Approximately 530 students were awarded degrees. Besides this the meritorious students of 2010, 2011 and 2012 were honoured with the medals and the merit certificates.
