These men of God spent a year in preparation and training to become deacons. Our new FBC deacons are: Kelvin Corbett, Michael Patterson, Anthony Williams, Jack Leveret, Melvin Brown, Stewart Blagmon and Clarence Slaughter. Both deacons Blagmon and Slaughter were already ordained as deacons at their former church. The new deacons were introduced by Michael Bailey, Deacon's Ministry Chairman. Deacons Ordination by cheers from the congregation. He then gave the ordination charge to the seven new deacons, and presented each with a certificate. Rev. Dr. Ed Rhodes, from The Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Cartersville delivered the ordination sermon. In his preamble he noted that deacons are ordained to serve and support the Pastor. Also, he added that they were the ones who were ordained and not their wives. But the burden of his message was that they were to be like trees. He encouraged them to be strong, sturdy, and upright in their calling to service. They should be rooted in the Word so that they are not blown down easily. He reminded them that they would be judged by their fruits. In response each deacon stood with his wife and gave a word of thanks. Congratulation to these men and may God bless their ministry. Rev. Garner spoke on behalf of the Ordination committee. He gave a brief overview of the training process. Among the many passages in the Bible, Titus 2:3-5 specifically targets the impor- older women to younger women, and I believe also, younger women to younger women. Paul encourages that older women mentor younger women in spiritual conversations that will help them in their daily living. In spite of what we think of our young people today, (especially young women) many of them eagerly desire such a mentor. But there are only a few older women willing to step into that role. Older women often feel unqualified, bewildered and are afraid of the commitment. What characteristics does it take to be a mentor? I once effective mentoring relationship. another woman. All you need is to be available with timely and Godly advice because that can make the difference for the individual who is without anchor. Younger women need experiences, endurance and examples that older women Likewise, teach the older women to be reverent in the way they live, not to be slanderers or addicted to much wine, but to teach what is good. Then they can train the younger women to love their husbands and children, to be self-controlled and pure, to be busy at home, to be kind and to be subject to their husbands, so that no one will malign the word of God. If you are a Christian woman who is seeking to grow in the faith and to live obediently to God, then you are qualified for spiritual motherhood. The second Celebration of Life program sponsored by the Health Ministry The second Celebration of Life program, sponsored by the Health Ministry took place on March 19 th in the Heritage Sanctuary. The theme, Blessings through trials and tribulations was a blessing to all who Geneva Burse (cancer), Mario and Cheryl Nelson (cancer), Teresa Barczak (struck by lightning), and Rubin and Telesa Jakes (stroke). from the Lord that was inspiring and uplifting. Just before the benediction, Fred Bowens shared his testimony which resulted in proved to be true. People were ministered to through the testimony of each other. Anyone that has survived a life threatening Love Lifted Me"
Usher Ministry Anniversary The congregation stood as over 50 Ushers made their way into the sanctuary on March 27 th for their anniversary celebration. This group of men and women are the gate keepers and helpers at FBC. Each of these individuals takes his/her calling very seriously. It is commendable, the pride with which they execute their duty during church services. Isaiah 43:10. The Anniversary message was delivered by Rev. John Strickland, from Zion Hill Baptist Church, College Park. The Ministry President, T.J. Davis introduced each team and their captain. Members from the Union Baptist church usher's ministry were kind enough to serve during the program. After the service, dinner was served in the Fellowship Hall.
