ISSUE NO. 15 FEBRUARY,, 2012 The Newsletter of Light and Life Evangelical Ministries, Inc. Our Mission: Support churches in northern Haiti by helping Haitian pastors and evangelists win souls to Christ and minister God s word to them. Cap-Haitien Church Construction Progressing Thanks to two work teams, one in January and one in February, the construction of the new Capconcrete blocks for the church walls. We are very thankful to have had Shawn Daffern from De Kalb Haitien church building is proceeding nicely. to superintend the block laying on this team. New In January, a team from Middle Tennessee assessed the site preparation as excellent and finished the footings for the church s walls (see photo below). Mark Baker oversaw footing work team. block buildings in Haiti are now required by the Haitian government to be earthquake resistant, and we have a crew of Haitian masons that were trained by Shawn when the dormitory was constructed. A side benefit of the well-prepared site is that the resultant elevation of the footings is above the local flooding that occurs during heavy rains in this area. Consequently, stairs will not be needed to enter into the building as originally planned. A work team from the De Kalb, TX, First Baptist Church followed the footing team to lay the The block-laying went very well and the walls would have been completed but for two days of rain. By the time you read this the walls should be complete and the concrete floor poured.

Two of the feasts were held at In addition to an abundant plateful of rice La Suisse and Cap Haitien on the Sunday before and beans or spaghetti, people were served fried chicken, fried plantains, and a salad. A muchenjoyed further treat was a locally bottled soft drink. Rice and Beans Filled Plates Fried Plantains, Salad & Fried Chicken Full Churches Enjoyed Their Christmas Feasts Following the feast, the school benches were rearranged to form a long table for a Christmas message and a Communion for the adults. Rev. Saintil brought a Christmas message that was tied to the message from I Corinthians on the Lord s Supper. Rev. Saintil reported, It was the first time we had such wonderful and joyful times at Christmas. We do thank every willful brother and sister who lovingly made it happen. A Locally Bottled Soft Drink Benches arranged for the Communion service

LifeLines Page 3 February, 2012 Teaching in Haiti By Mary Jane Miller [Editor s Note: Mary Jane Miller and Suki Brannan spent almost Chad Molitor introduced us at each church, and ten years in full-time missions with Youth With A Mission also helped answer questions at the end of the (YWAM). During that time they helped train and mentor students from all over the world who have a heart to share the sessions. Rev. Saintil translated for us, and Bree Gospel of Jesus Christ. They still have a call to disciple Molitor and Rachel Baker video taped the teaching believers at home and around the world.] so that it could be shared and studied later. During the discussion times there were lots of thoughtful questions which helped us respond to the specific needs of the people. The questions asked told us two things: First, the Haitian pastors are doing a great job of teaching the Bible. Their congregations know and understand the scriptures and the significance of Mary Jane, Evangelist Camè Camèus Cenat and Suki Suki Brannan and I went to Haiti expecting to teach one day-long conference and a couple of afternoon teachings at other churches. When we arrived, Rev. Saintil told us that so many people wanted to attend that there wasn t a large enough space for the conference. So the plan changed (welcome to missions). The new schedule called for us teaching three, day-long conferences at the churches in Cap-Haitien, Bas-Fossé and La Suisse. OneonOne-on -One with a student at La Suisse salvation. Second, the church is hungry for more discipling and revelation of how to apply the scriptures to everyday living. Our first teaching in the church at CapHaitien lasted until dark. Someone brought an oil lamp to set on the table so that we could finish answering their questions and pray for the many people who came forward. We also had a few precious opportunities to meet with students oneon-one. We were blessed to be able to pray for all the pastors and elders who love Jesus so much and want to see His lordship spread across Haiti. It was Teaching at Cap Cap-Haitien an honor to be able to serve them.

LifeLines Page 4 February, 2012 Ministry News from our National Director in Haiti Compiled from the monthly reports of Rev. Claude Saintil In the name of our pastors and churches and in my personal name I do greet you all in Jesus Christ, our Lord. We do not have the proper words to thank all of you who have greatly contributed to make the year-end and the new year, 2012, very special to our church family. for progress. We do need your precious help in prayer. Status of the Churches There is great potentiality for the Cap- Haitien church to be multiplied after the new building is completed. Some people are more proud of being a member of a great and beautiful Christmas Feasts Were Special temple than being a Christian. Attendance in We had a wonderful Christmas season which ended with copious Christmas meals, thanks to the generosity of many fellow Christians who December and January averaged about 140 at Sunday services. At the Bas-Fossé church there is not too provided funds for this purpose. The churches and much progress. Church attendance averages school children were extremely happy in enjoying their rice and beans, fried chicken, fried plantains and soft drinks. Contributions Appreciated We were greatly blessed to receive many about 55 each Sunday. Pastor Pierre seems not to have the time to devote proper care for it, mostly because he is working on his theological studies at the seminary. He will graduate in June. The school is wonderfully functioning with many contributions in recent months: A new generator, children. Ten more students were added for the boxes of clothes, shoes, toothbrushes, and medical supplies were received from the First Baptist Church of De Kalb, TX, and a lot of school supplies, boxes of pencils, copybooks and many other needful items from the Binghampton Baptist second term. We are now able to feed them twice each week, and they come to church every Sunday. The attendance at the La Suisse church is slightly increasing, mostly after the Christmas meal. In January there were 9 new conversions Church of Middlesboro, Ky. Another donation of and 12 candidates for baptism. The church is the books Where There is No Doctor and The Shepherd s Staff that we received will be a big help to our paramedics and pastors. In January, our two country paramedics very thankful for the precious help with music instruments and the windows and doors which highly encourage the church members. As at Bas- Fossé, we feed the school children La Suisse twice a benefited from the gift of two motorbikes to help week. The student s parents are very happy for them be more available at any time and place to serve the poor patients in the country where there is no doctor. We will never forget to lift all of you in our prayers. Satan at Work In Haiti s Government Satan is really at work in my country. My people are in darkness and many of our political leaders are deeply involved in Satanism. President Martelly is working hard in looking for ways to improve life conditions of the population in Haiti, but past-president Aristide, who wasted 25 years in power, and Senator Moses, who was fraudulently elected, constantly block President Martelly s plans their children getting this meal. Three new students were added to the school in January. Earthquake & Tsunami Scare Pastor Bastien has moved to the country because there is a rumor about a serious and dangers earthquake and tsunami soon. Senator Kelly Bastien, Pastor Bastien s brother, called him from Port-au-Prince warning him to move to the country, which he did without calling and telling me. Anyway, I m still living in the same house with my family. We do not have any other place to go. Please do pray with us. People are very afraid about these rumors.

LifeLines Page 5 February, 2012 Pastor Mervilus No Longer with the Ministry On February 4, 2012, the Board of Directors of the Ministry voted to disassociate Pastor Loriston pastors to resolve these issues, Rev. Saintil recommended to the board that Pastor Mervilus Mervilus from the Ministry. This action came as a association with Light and Life Evangelical result of information received from our National Ministries be terminated. The board regrets the Director, Rev. Claude Saintil, regarding certain actions, attitudes and statements of Pastor Mervilus that were detrimental in representing the Ministry. necessity for this action, but is confident that this is best for the Ministry. Other applications for association will be reviewed in the near future. After failure by himself and our other Haitian Evangelist Camèus Cenat s Wife Dies Suddenly It is with great sorrow that we announce the death of Marie Pierre Cenat, wife of Camèus ( Joseph ) Cenat on February 8, 2012. Marie had been ill as of late, but her illness was not considered serious. Just prior to her death she took a turn for the worse, leading Rev. Saintil and our other pastors to schedule a visit to the Cenat home to pray for her. Upon arriving, they learned she had just passed away. Camèus is the ministry s evangelist and is a founding employee of the ministry. He and Marie have seven children, ages ranging from 28 down to 17. Due to the immediate need of the Cenat family, the Board of Directors has voted to borrow $500 from an existing escrow account and send it to Haiti to defray the expenses of her funeral. This money must be repaid to the account, and the Board solicits your contribution toward this end. You may use the form at the bottom of this page for your contribution. Two New Motorcycles Provided for Paramedics Two new Haojin 125 motorcycles were purchased for the ministry in January by a Middle the number of people that can be seen during their weekly rounds. Another benefit, of course, is the reduction in Tennessee supporter. These physical effort now required to walk the motorcycles will greatly improve the coverage of our rural paramedics, both in their range of outreach and many miles over unimproved roads. This need has been a prayer request for some time, and we praise God for this donation. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Contribution Form Light and Life Evangelical Ministries, Inc.
