O O\THE NATIVITY OF THE LORD DECEMBER 25, 2016 May the Christ Child touch your heart this Christmas and renew you with hope. May we give thanks for life and family as we celebrate the Holy Family. Friar Tom and Friar Paul along with the Franciscans and the staff at Our Lady of Grace pray you have a Blessed Christmas! Come Let us adore Him! Please pray for the Franciscans who will be on retreat January 2-6. May the Franciscans be renewed so we can serve you and the church with Joy. Christmas isn t just a temporal celebration of the memory of a beautiful event; Christmas is more Christmas is an encounter! Pope Francis In its present form the custom of displaying figures depicting the birth of Jesus Christ owes its origin to St. Francis of Assisi, who made the Christmas crèche or manger for Christmas Eve of 1223. The blessing of the Christmas manger or nativity scene may take place on the Vigil of Christmas or at another suitable time. When the manger is set up in the home, it is appropriate that it be blessed by a parent or another family member. Blessing for Your manger Scene at Christmas All make the sign of the cross as the leader says: Our help is in the name of the Lord. R/.Who made heaven and earth. A reading of the Holy Gospel according to Luke In those days a decree went out from Caesar Augustus* that the whole world should be enrolled. This was the first enrollment, when Quirinius was governor of Syria. So all went to be enrolled, each to his own town. And Joseph too went up from Galilee from the town of Nazareth to Judea, to the city of David that is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and family of David, to be enrolled with Mary, his betrothed, who was with child. While they were there, the time came for her to have her child, and she gave birth to her firstborn son. She wrapped him in swaddling clothes and laid him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn. Reader: The Gospel of the Lord. The leader prays with hands joined: God of every nation and people, from the very beginning of creation you have made manifest your love: when our need for a Savior was great you sent your Son to be born of the Virgin Mary. To our lives he brings joy and peace, justice, mercy, and love. Lord, bless all who look upon this manger; may it remind us of the humble birth of Jesus, and raise our thoughts to him, who is God-with-us and Savior of all, and who lives and reigns forever and ever. R/. Amen. 1

As many of you have probably experienced in your own homes and businesses, our expenses have risen greatly this past year - while our ordinary income has remained flat. And so your support is most important and most appreciated. Please know that your Christmas and Sunday donations will help us to meet our endof-year expenses and hopefully, allow us to begin the new year on a positive note. Our Christmas Budget goal is $28,000. We look forward to letting you know our financial outcome at the beginning of 2017. FOR YOUR NEW YEARS RESOLUTION CONSIDER ALPHA FOR ADULTS Join us for Alpha in 2017. We will ponder the Questions of Life and Faith. We will Adore, Worship and come into communion with the Lord! Gospel for The Solemnity of the Blessed Virgin Mary the Mother of God (January 1st) Matthew 2:16-21 21 The shepherds went in haste to Bethlehem and found Mary and Joseph, and the infant lying in the manger. When they saw this, they made known the message that had been told them about this child. All who heard it were amazed by what had been told them by the shepherds. And Mary kept all these things, reflecting on them in her heart. Then the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all they had heard and seen, just as it had been told to them. When eight days were completed for his circumcision, he was named Jesus, the name given him by the angel before he was conceived in the womb.
