Year 1 Confirmation Requirements 2017-2018 PROGRAM: Confirmation in the Diocese of Orange is a two-year program, and these years must be consecutive (typically 9 th & 10 th grade). Registrations begin June 1 st and close September 1 st. Year 1 Registrants must be in 9 th, 10 th or 11 th grade. Registrations will not be accepted without copies of the students Baptismal & First Communion certificates. The cost is $160 per year and parents are asked to volunteer in some way to experience the program with their teen. All forms & payments are due by September 1 st, 2017. RCIA for TEENS: If your child needs the sacraments of Baptism, First Reconciliation or First Eucharist, they can still register for Confirmation. They will attend extra meetings to prepare them for these sacraments and they will receive them before or on the day of their Confirmation. MASS ATTENDANCE: Students in Confirmation are expected to attend Mass every Sunday and on Holy Days of Obligation. There will be special ritual Masses you are expected to attend with your family on: Sundays, October 1 st, 2017 & April 29 th, 2018 @ 5pm. CONFIRMATION MEETINGS: Confirmation meets on select Wednesday nights from 7-9pm in the Hall. Teens are expected to arrive early to check-in and to bring their Bibles (which they will receive at one of their first sessions). There are 12 meetings, and ANY MISSED MEETINGS MUST BE MADE-UP. Makeup requirements are sent out via e-mail the day after the missed meeting. Students who miss more than 4 total meetings, or 3 consecutive meetings will be considered dropped-out from the program. The meetings this year are: 9/20 (with parent), 10/4, 10/25*, 11/8, 11/29, 12/13, 1/24, 2/7, 2/28**, 3/14***, 3/28 & 4/18****. *RETREAT: Each teen needs to participate in a weekend Confirmation retreat each year. Teens are strongly encouraged to make this weekend a priority, otherwise they will need to find an alternate Year 1 Confirmation retreat with another church in the Diocese of Orange. This year s Confirmation 1 retreat is $200, and is the weekend of: Friday, January 12 th Sunday, January 14 th, 2018. Note: Catholic school retreats cannot replace your Confirmation retreat. Form & payment are due by Wednesday, November 29 th, 2017. **SAINT REPORT: Students will choose a patron saint, reflecting their research on the saint. They will write a one-page reflection on the saint, which must be completed by: Wednesday, February 28 th, 2018. ***SPONSOR DECLARATION: Students will need to declare their confirmation sponsor by Wednesday, March 14 th, 2018. A sponsor is an active and Confirmed Catholic in good standing, who is able to commit to an active role in the spiritual formation of their candidate. Unfortunately, parents are not eligible to be sponsors for the candidate. Sponsors will need to attend a Sponsor day retreat during the second year of the program, as well as the Confirmation rehearsal & Mass at the end of the program. ****SERVICE: Each year, students will need to participate in two service opportunities. One of which must be at Saint Timothy s, the other can be completed outside the parish. Service opportunities are generally two hours or more, and one of them can be satisfied through helping in a liturgical ministry, or volunteering regularly with faith formation (Tiny Tim s, Elementary School or CLUB 7-8). Must be completed within the Confirmation year with verification & submitted by: Wednesday, April 18 th, 2018. ****XLT (EXALT): Teens will need to attend 1 XLT each year. These are powerful nights of praise & worship, and inspirational message and Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament. Dinner is included and they are free! We will have a few throughout the year at Saint Timothy s (Tentative dates: 11/12, 1/28 & 3/18). Off-site XLT s (at other parishes & Catholic schools) also satisfy this requirement. Must be completed within the Confirmation year with verification & submitted by: Wednesday, April 18 th, 2018. ****LIFE NIGHTS: Teens will need to attend 1 Life Night each year, which take place each Sunday night from 6-8pm. It s a great way for teens to get a bigger picture of what youth ministry is, instead of just attending Confirmation sessions. Must be completed within the Confirmation year by: Wednesday, April 18 th, 2018. PARENT DAY: This afternoon workshop will occur on Saturday, February 17 th, 2018 from 2-6pm. Students must attend with one or both of their parents. INTERVIEWS: Students may be asked to schedule interviews with the Pastor and/or Confirmation coordinator each year. These interviews must be attended by the student with a parent and/or their sponsor.
