The Bible A House Divided or Built on the Rock June 29, 2016 Hymns: 141, 216, 450 Gen. 11:1, 3 (to 1st,), 4 1st let (to 4th,), 5, 6, 7-9 let (to ;) And the whole earth was of one language, and of one speech. And they said one to another, let us build us a city and a tower, whose top may reach unto heaven; and let us make us a name, And the Lord came down to see the city and the tower, which the children of men builded. And the Lord said, Behold, the people is one, and they have all one language; and this they begin to do: and now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do. let us go down, and there confound their language, that they may not understand one another s speech. So the Lord scattered them abroad from thence upon the face of all the earth: and they left off to build the city. Therefore is the name of it called Babel; Ps. 127:1 (to :) Except the LORD build the house, they labour in vain that build it: Matt. 9:14 (to 1st disciples), 15 (to 1st,) Then came to him the disciples And Jesus said unto them, Matt. 7:24-29 whosoever Whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock: And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock. And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand: And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it. And it came to pass, when Jesus had ended these sayings, the people were astonished at his doctrine: For he taught them as one having authority, and not as the scribes. Jer. 9:23 (to 3rd,), 24 Thus saith the Lord, Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, neither let the mighty man glory in his might, But let him that glorieth glory in this, that he understandeth and knoweth me, that I am the Lord which exercise lovingkindness, judgment, and righteousness, in the earth: for in these things I delight, saith the Lord. Eph. 4:17, 18, 20-24 This I say therefore, and testify in the Lord, that ye henceforth walk not as other Gentiles walk, in the vanity of their mind, Having the understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God through the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart: But ye have not so learned Christ; If so be that ye have heard him, and have been taught by him, as the truth is in Jesus: That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts; And be renewed in the spirit of your mind; And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.
Isa. 33:2 (to :), 6 wisdom (to :) O Lord, be gracious unto us; we have waited for thee: wisdom and knowledge shall be the stability of thy times, and strength of salvation: Ps. 18:2 (to 1st,), 2 2nd and (to 2nd ;) The Lord is my rock, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; Matt. 25:34 Come Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world: Ps. 22:28 For the kingdom is the Lord s: and he is the governor among the nations. Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, by Mary Baker Eddy SH 138:14-15 The supremacy of Spirit was the foundation on which Jesus built. SH 269:25 Other foundations there are none. All other systems systems based wholly or partly on knowledge gained through the material senses are reeds shaken by the wind, not houses built on the rock. SH 593:18 Rock (only) ROCK. Spiritual foundation; Truth. SH 170:22-24 Spiritual causation is the one question to be considered, for more than all others spiritual causation relates to human progress. SH 256:1-2 Progress takes off human shackles. The finite must yield to the infinite. SH 454:5-9 The understanding, even in a degree, of the divine All-power destroys fear, and plants the feet in the true path, the path which leads to the house built without hands eternal in the heavens. SH 326:12-14 We must forsake the foundation of material systems, however timehonored, if we would gain the Christ as our only Saviour. SH 146:9-12 Such systems are barren of the vitality of spiritual power, by which material sense is made the servant of Science and religion becomes Christlike. SH 535:10-11 Divine Science deals its chief blow at the supposed material foundations of life and intelligence. SH 262:27-28 (to 1st.), 28 Every; 263:1 The foundation of mortal discord is a false sense of man s origin. Every concept which seems to begin with the brain begins falsely. Divine Mind is
the only cause or Principle of existence. Cause does not exist in matter, in mortal mind, or in physical forms. Mortals are egotists. They believe themselves to be independent workers, personal authors, and even privileged originators of something which Deity would not or could not create. The creations of mortal mind are material. Immortal spiritual man alone represents the truth of creation. SH 464:26 Falsity (only) Falsity has no foundation. SH 287:22-31 Error is false, mortal belief; it is illusion, without spiritual identity or foundation, and it has no real existence. The supposition that life, substance, and intelligence are in matter, or of it, is an error. Matter is neither a thing nor a person, but merely the objective supposition of Spirit s opposite. The five material senses testify to truth and error as united in a mind both good and evil. Their false evidence will finally yield to Truth, to the recognition of Spirit and of the spiritual creation. SH 539:27-30 The divine origin of Jesus gave him more than human power to expound the facts of creation, and demonstrate the one Mind which makes and governs man and the universe. SH 544:14-17 No mortal mind has the might or right or wisdom to create or to destroy. All is under the control of the one Mind, even God. SH 581:17 BABEL. Self-destroying error; a kingdom divided against itself, which cannot stand; material knowledge. SH 590:4-6 (to ;), 7 2nd the KNOWLEDGE. Evidence obtained from the five corporeal senses; mortality; beliefs and opinions; human theories, doctrines, hypotheses; the opposite of spiritual Truth and understanding. SH 134:14-15 Man-made doctrines are waning. They have not waxed strong in times of trouble. SH 297:28 Mortal (only, to 2nd.) Mortal testimony can be shaken. SH 26:28-30; 27:18 Our Master taught no mere theory, doctrine, or belief. It was the divine Principle of all real being which he taught and practised. He laid the axe of Science at the root of material knowledge, that it might be ready to cut down the false doctrine of pantheism, that God, or Life, is in or of matter. SH 280:16-21 Through this error, human belief comes to have gods many and lords many. Moses declared as Jehovah s first command of the Ten: Thou shalt
have no other gods before me! But behold the zeal of belief to establish the opposite error of many minds. SH 279:22-26, 26-29 Every system of human philosophy, doctrine, and medicine is more or less infected with the pantheistic belief that there is mind in matter; but this belief contradicts alike revelation and right reasoning. A logical and scientific conclusion is reached only through the knowledge that there are not two bases of being, matter and mind, but one alone, Mind. SH 469:13 Mind (only) Mind is God. SH 544:16-17 All is under the control of the one Mind, even God. SH 125:16-17 Reflecting God s government, man is self-governed. SH 519:11-16 Human capacity is slow to discern and to grasp God s creation and the divine power and presence which go with it, demonstrating its spiritual origin. Mortals can never know the infinite, until they throw off the old man and reach the spiritual image and likeness. SH 201:7 We (only) We cannot build safely on false foundations. SH 192:6-7 Human opinions are not spiritual. SH 112:10 Although these opinions may have occasional gleams of divinity, borrowed from that truly divine Science which eschews man-made systems, they nevertheless remain wholly human in their origin and tendency and are not scientifically Christian. SH 212:17-18 Mortals have a modus of their own, undirected and unsustained by God. SH 170:3 Modes of matter form neither a moral nor a spiritual system. The discord which calls for material methods is the result of the exercise of faith in material modes, faith in matter instead of in Spirit. SH 394:17-20 Experience has proved to the author the fallacy of material systems in general, that their theories are sometimes pernicious, and that their denials are better than their affirmations. SH 99:20-21 Therefore my contest is not with the individual, but with the false system. SH 280:30-4 The only excuse for entertaining human opinions and rejecting the Science of being is our mortal ignorance of Spirit, ignorance which yields only to the understanding of divine Science, the understanding by which we enter
into the kingdom of Truth on earth and learn that Spirit is infinite and supreme. SH 401:1-4 Any human error is its own enemy, and works against itself; it does nothing in the right direction and much in the wrong. SH 252:2 If If a kingdom be divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand. SH 118:26-29 The definitions of material law, as given by natural science, represent a kingdom necessarily divided against itself, because these definitions portray law as physical, not spiritual. SH 339:20-25 As, 32 As the mythology of pagan Rome has yielded to a more spiritual idea of Deity, so will our material theories yield to spiritual ideas, until the finite gives place to the infinite, sickness to health, sin to holiness, and God s kingdom comes in earth, as it is in heaven. Our various theories will never lose their imaginary power for good or evil, until we lose our faith in them and make life its own proof of harmony and God. SH 249:1 Let us accept Science, relinquish all theories based on sense-testimony, give up imperfect models and illusive ideals; and so let us have one God, one Mind, and that one perfect, producing His own models of excellence. SH vii:13-15 Truth Truth, independent of doctrines and time-honored systems, knocks at the portal of humanity. SH 538:3-4 Truth should, and does, drive error out of all selfhood. Truth is a two-edged sword, guarding and guiding. SH 106:6-11 Like our nation, Christian Science has its Declaration of Independence. God has endowed man with inalienable rights, among which are selfgovernment, reason, and conscience. Man is properly self-governed only when he is guided rightly and governed by his Maker, divine Truth and Love. SH 428:8 To divest thought of false trusts and material evidences in order that the spiritual facts of being may appear, this is the great attainment by means of which we shall sweep away the false and give place to the true. Thus we may establish in truth the temple, or body, whose builder and maker is God. SH 393:16-18 Be firm in your understanding that the divine Mind governs, and that in Science man reflects God s government. SH 378:26-28 God never endowed matter with power to disable Life or to chill harmony with a long and cold night of discord.
SH 447:12-16 Ignorance, subtlety, or false charity does not forever conceal error; evil will in time disclose and punish itself. The recuperative action of the system, when mentally sustained by Truth, goes on naturally. SH 192:11-15 Erring power is a material belief, a blind miscalled force, the offspring of will and not of wisdom, of the mortal mind and not of the immortal. It is the headlong cataract, the devouring flame, the tempest s breath. SH 162:5-7 Christian Science acts as an alterative, neutralizing error with Truth. SH 225:8-10 (to ;), 11-16 The powers of this world will fight, and will command their sentinels not to let truth pass the guard until it subscribes to their systems; There is always some tumult, but there is a rallying to truth s standard. The history of our country, like all history, illustrates the might of Mind, and shows human power to be proportionate to its embodiment of right thinking. SH 21:25 Being in sympathy with matter, the worldly man is at the beck and call of error, and will be attracted thitherward. He is like a traveller going westward for a pleasure-trip. The company is alluring and the pleasures exciting. After following the sun for six days, he turns east on the seventh, satisfied if he can only imagine himself drifting in the right direction. By-and-by, ashamed of his zigzag course, he would borrow the passport of some wiser pilgrim, thinking with the aid of this to find and follow the right road. SH 379:6-8 The real jurisdiction of the world is in Mind, controlling every effect and recognizing all causation as vested in divine Mind. SH 161:16 Man Man is endowed by his Maker with certain inalienable rights, among which are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. SH 516:4 The substance, Life, intelligence, Truth, and Love, which constitute Deity, are reflected by His creation; and when we subordinate the false testimony of the corporeal senses to the facts of Science, we shall see this true likeness and reflection everywhere. SH 202:3-5 The scientific unity which exists between God and man must be wrought out in life-practice, and God s will must be universally done.
