February 25, 2018 *CONGREGATION STANDS AS ABLE Service for the Lord s Day The Season of Lent Second Sunday The People of God Gather Please use the time before worship for silent reflection and meditation, giving thanks to God for all things. 10:30 A.M. LITURGICAL COLOR: PURPLE COLLECT O God, whose glory it is always to have mercy: Be gracious to all who have gone astray from Your ways, and bring them again with penitent hearts and steadfast faith to embrace and hold fast the unchangeable truth of Your Word, Jesus Christ Your Son; who with You and the Holy Spirit lives and reigns, one God, for ever and ever. Amen. PRELUDE A Mighty Fortress - arr., Smith Michael Spresser, piano WELCOME and ANNOUNCEMENTS *PROCESSIONAL HYMN I Greet Thee, Who My Sure Redeemer Art No. 457 *CALL to WORSHIP Lent calls us to be people of faith, hope and love. And the greatest of these is love. We are one humanity, brothers and sisters of God s creation, called to love one another. Lent reminds us that love has a cost a sacrificial cost and letting go of selfish demands. We live and move and have our existence in God, whom we love and worship! Lent calls us to come out of darkness and to live in the light of God s eternal love. We rejoice in God our Mighty Fortress, our Sure Redeemer, the Lord of All Good! PRAYER of CONFESSION (and silent confession) Leader: Praying in one accord, and humbling ourselves before the Lord, let us confess our need for God and God s unconditional and unending love. (Unison) Holy God, ever just and true, You know how we are prideful and prone to sin, for nothing is hidden from You. You see us spending more time on our computers and cellphones, than we do in prayer or helping others. We trust too much in our own plans and ingenuity, and forget to seek first Your will for our lives. Forgive us, Lord, for the folly of our ways. In this penitential season, help us to follow You more closely, hear You more clearly, and serve more faithfully in Your name. To Thy glory, honor and praise. Amen. ASSURANCE of PARDON Leader: Hear the Good News God never goes back on a promise! God promised to save us, and in Jesus Christ we are saved! And get this God will never leave us or forsake us! People: Forgiven of our sins, filled with everlasting hope, living dutifully and faithfully in the world we are a new people, with new purpose. Thanks be to God! Amen. *PASSING the PEACE *GLORIA PATRI Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost; as it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen, amen. Where We are Tested and Challenged - Pastor Darnell The People of God Respond *AFFIRMATION of FAITH From A Brief Statement of Faith (PCUSA) In life and in death we belong to God. Through the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit, we trust in the one triune God, the Holy One of Israel, whom alone we worship and serve... We trust in God the Holy Spirit, everywhere the giver and renewer of life. The Spirit justifies us by grace through faith, sets us free to accept ourselves, and to love God and neighbor, and binds us together with all believers, in the one body of Christ, the Church... In gratitude to God, empowered by the Spirit, we strive to serve Christ in our daily tasks, and to live holy and joyful lives, even as we watch for God's new heaven and new earth, praying, "Come, Lord Jesus!" With believers in every time and place, we rejoice that nothing in life or in death, can separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus, our Lord. Amen. (lines 1-6, 52-57, 64, 72-79)

Sunday, February 25, 2018 Loveland Valentine s Lady Worship Service Loveland Presbyterian Church is honored to welcome Loveland Valentine s Ladies, past and present, along with Loveland s mayor, Kathy Bailey, Little Miami River Chamber Alliance President, Cee Cee Collins, and distinguished Loveland resident, Roland Boike. Welcome to LPC! Congratulations to this year s Valentine s Lady, Kay Brolin, and to Corey Partin, chosen to be the first Valentine Escort. We are so very pleased to have so many Valentine s Ladies with us this morning whom have served in past years. You have each contributed to the Loveland community in so many ways and have been recognized for your contribution by being selected as a Loveland Valentine s Lady. You are a blessing to our community and we, the first and oldest church in Loveland, celebrate that you are with us this morning. A special Coffee Fellowship will take place after Worship in your honor. Adult Sunday School Beginning March 4 th 9:15 10:00AM in The Parlor Join Pastor Lonnie, beginning next Sunday, March 4 th, for a new Adult Sunday School series, focusing on the book, An Altar in the World: A Geography of Faith, by Barbara Brown Taylor. This book reveals meaningful ways to discover the sacred in the small things we do and see, from simple practices such as walking, working, and prayer. Something as ordinary as hanging clothes on a clothesline becomes an act of meditation if we pay attention to what we're doing and take time to notice the sights, smells, and sounds around us. Making eye contact with the cashier at the grocery store becomes a moment of true human connection. Forgiving yourself for getting lost can lead to new discoveries. As we incorporate these practices into our daily lives, we begin to discover altars everywhere we go, in nearly everything we do. Join Pastor Lonnie for a thought provoking look at ways to live with purpose, pay attention, slow down, and revere the world we live in. Please see Pastor Lonnie with questions. Large Print Bibles & Bulletins Available Eyes aren t what they used to be? We have just purchased a few large print bibles. Look for the red covers in the pews or see an Usher. Did you know that we print large print bulletins and they are available every Sunday? Please ask an Usher if you would like one. Easter sign-ups are coming soon! Be on the lookout for sign-ups for LPC s Easter Breakfast and Easter Egg Hunt! Easter morning ~ April 1 st!
