Many renowned artists, such as Andy Warhol, & Robert Mapplethorpe and street artist Banksy gained fame or kick-started their careers by designing album covers. 2 / 14
We will be going back and viewing various significant album covers. Then teens will be challenged to redesign an old or favorite record Album. Bring in a favorite album, or find one off the internet. With your creative ideas you will redesign the cover and bring your personal perspective to life. Bring along a record Album that you may have around your house to share or redesign. Musician Chipocrite uses original Nintendo Game Boys, often accompanied by bass, guitar, drums and/or other lo-fi sequencers, to create complex audio masterpieces. Chipocrite has taken the stage at numerous performance spaces, events and conventions, including the Vans Warped Tour, Blip Festival, MAGFest and AnimeNEXT. He has provided soundtracks for commercials including a nationally televised GameStop ad as well as video games and online videos. Registration is required. During this session, we will focus on yoga poses that can enhance athletic performance while strengthening joints to help prevent injury. Come prepared to share what sports you play or injury concerns so targeted poses can be shared with the class. Registration is required. Aromatherapy for Teens Thursday, July 12/ Headquarters, Manalapan / 6:30 8:00pm Friday, July 13 / Hazlet Library / 3:00 4:30pm During the program, we will talk about essential oils that help focus the mind, ease anxiety, and improve sleep. Then, we will go through a short, gentle sequence of yoga poses that support focus, stress reduction, and more restful sleep. Rogue Robotics Underwater Robot demonstration Locations: Headquarters, Manlapan Thursday, July 19 / 6:30 8:30pm The Rogue Robotics team will demo their award-winning underwater ROV which has competed in the MATE robotics competition. We will discuss how our team created this entire robot from scratch and have activities to learn about mechanics and electronics. Weather permitting this program will be held outside, A small kiddie pool will be set up and teens can observe the robot, in action, in the water. Registration is required.. 8 / 14
Pet Portraits 6:30 8:30pm Tuesday, July 24/ Howell Library Thursday, July 26 / Atlantic Highlands library Create a timeless memory of your beloved pet. This is a perfect class for pet lovers of all kinds. Using a selected photo you provide, students will be guided by our instructor, in the use of charcoal and pastels, to capture the distinct physical details and unique personality of their beloved pet. Requirement: You need to bring an actual printed photograph of your pet to work with for this class.(not a photo on your phone!) Registration is required. 9 / 14
CPR & AED Wednesday, July 25 / 6:00-8:00pm/ Headquarters, Manalapan This CPR & AED course will teach anyone with little to no medical training, how to recognize cardiac arrest, get access to emergency care quickly and perform Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation until paramedics arrive and take over. This class will also demonstrate how to recognize anaphylaxis and effectively use an EpiPen on adult, child and infant patients. The teens will receive an Official HAMES CPR card upon completion of the course. The class is provided by HAMES The High School Association of Medical Engineers & Scientists, Inc. Central Jersey Region. Registration is required. This program is limited to 30 teens. So You Want a Career in Music / Teen Workshop Monday, July 30 / 6:00-7:30pm pm / Headquarters, Manalapan This amazing workshop for teens is based on the explosion of interest in TV shows like American Idol. The Voice and The X Factor. Participants learn what it takes to spend a life making music. Our Presenter - Patricia Shih will talk about working with managers & agents, recording, touring, performing live in front of thousands the facts, the fun and the frustrations. 10 / 14
PLUS Performance Coaching volunteers can share a song and Ms. Shih will give gentle and constructive advice to raise their game to be more professional. Workshop participants who wish coaching should come prepared with an instrument (ie: guitar, keyboard violin etc.) Or a karaoke track on an mp3 or smart phone, and a lyric sheet. Come join us for a fun evening of Youtube Karoke and Youtube Name that Song, along with pizza and refreshments. We will have a Kindness Rock table for teens to create Inspirational Rocks.
