1 Chapter The following letters were written between June of 2010 and March of 2011 between serial killer Edward Wayne Edwards, retired Great Falls Police Detective John Cameron and Cameron s colleague, Neal Best.
2 LETTER WRITTEN BY CAMERON 7/2010 Dear Ed: My name is John Cameron. I am a retired Cold Case Homicide Detective for the Great Falls Police Pardons and Parole. I am an analyst, reviewing inmates files, interviewing and recommending whether or not they are deserving of an early release. I like it. As a cop I was fortunate to have been able to work on many unsolved homicides that occurred here. I was able to solve 6 Cold Cases that were as old as 1964. One case I was never allowed to be involved in was the Kalitske/ Bogle case from January 1, 1956. That case occurred in Cascade County, just outside Great Falls and cops are very covenant about their homicides. The Cascade County Sheriff s Office worked that case. It has never been solved. The reason I write to you is to close that case out and let the family know that you are in jail, serving a death sentence and life. There is only one relative around and she is 80. It is the sister of the victim. She is ill and has been told in the past that the cops know who did it but can t prove it-they were wrong. I became involved in the case two weeks ago after I was sent a flier about you and your crimes. Several Great Falls Police Detectives contacted me because they were looking at you for killing a couple here in 1964. In that case a grocer and his wife were stabbed to death in their store. I arrested a man in that case in 2001. He was acquitted at trial. Since then, because of certain egos at the GFPD, they are always trying to find someone else that killed the grocer couple. Of course you didn t kill them because you were in prison then. I guess the GFPD never bothered to check your record before attempting to tell me they were looking at a new killer for the 64 case. So now, after reading about you, I was fortunate enough to have been contacted by an old investigator that asked if I would look into the January 1956 killing that you did here. And now that I have looked at your book, record, acquaintances, past crimes etc. I know you can finally put this case to rest for Mrs. Kalitske and Bogle. I have researched you like no other. I find you fascinating. I have spoken with the County Attorney here, John Parker, regarding this case. I am putting some money on your account in case you are willing to write back. 3 Neal Bests Letter to Edwards: Dear Ed, I hav the feeling you may want to get to know me. I could be your friend, your amigo. Many people will misunderstand you, but maybe not me. I hav notice all of the evol names people call you are off. You seem to be of an IQ that is less vexed than many others. Outside, I see many children waiting to play a game. The weather is right for it. Do you wish you were free to play with them, too? Of course, your body will be in prison, but your mind is still free to play. I forgive you all your actions. Through Christ, (the Furst), who lives in me, I have the solution to my next life s going for Eternity. My Father s name is Ray. He sees us as brothers, even twins. He would like for us to visit, U and I. Let us not disappoint Him. The rest of the world will never understand your deepest energy, But I do. Your quintessential essence can be vindicated. You have been my devinator; I could be yours. I m listening to the Fifth Dimension on the radio. I recently took a great interest in them. My name is Neal. It means champion in old Norse. It also means capstone on a pyramid in old Egypt. I have thirteen brothers, sisters and cousins. My sister is into the higher levels of geometry. It is really a mind-trip. I read your autobiography and understand its deeper meaning. I m sure you did not go to all that literary trouble just for autographs. Many people don t see the world for what it is. It s like light and darkness, all at the same time. I will never ask you to feel pity. Too many pissy people have no idea what right and wrong is. I see you as my tío, my uncle, because I have read all of your writings. It takes two to tango. Would you like the amiga to be the start of a beauty-ful relationship? Would you like to see the auroraborealis before you die? Would you like to go where none expect you to? My Dad and I are nervous about sitting around forever. He loves his family very much; Even my brother who has a bad personality. If you see me, doors will open for both of us. If a clam stays shut, it will starve. In Montana, I have built bonfires with my dad Ray that are so hot they are scary. But we are always in control of the heat. We appreciate you, Neal Best

7 Dear Ed I know I have written you a couple times with no answer but thought I would write again. I met your family in September. They are great people. Your son is worried that he will be connected to you. Kay deserves life without this haunting her. I have met people like you. I have mentored kids like you. I forgive you for everything you have done. Anybody raised as you were didn t get a chance. I have gone through your most personal possessions and spoke with your grandkids. They are all beautiful people. You actually raised your children with love and should be proud of that. I know who you are and what you have done and forgive you. My friend Neal seems to know a lot about you. He is a good man, that I love and would wish nothing bad on him. Your Friend John Cameron I signed it with the Zodiac symbol also. 80 The last letter we received from Edwards came in February of 2012. It had been sent to us after Ed s death by an unknown person in Alabama. The letter had been written by Ed in November of 2010 and was in response to Neal and Cameron asking Ed to please tell them they were right about him being the Zodiac. Ed gave us permission to write his life story.
