JOIN THE PARISH New Parishioner Registration Form NAME: ADDRESS: PHONE: ( ) EMAIL : COMMENT: Dear Parish Family, Happy Feast Day! Jesus says in Matthew 11:1, Truly I tell you, among those born of women there has not risen anyone greater that John the Baptist; yet whoever is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he. What makes John so great? John is so great because God chose him to prepare the way for the Lord, and through obedience, John fulfilled his mission! He lived a very hard life for God s sake. He spoke to crowds of people and called them to repentance. Even the pharisees and scholars of the law where called out by John! Lastly, because John would not surrender the truth for any reason he was imprisoned and eventually beheaded for what he knew was right. Now, Jesus says that even the least in the Kingdom is greater than John. Remember how sheepish the apostles were before the coming of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost? Once the Holy Spirit fell and the kingdom of heaven was manifest on earth, the apostles spoke boldly, just like John, only they were even more effective. My brothers and sisters you and I entered into the kingdom of heaven the day we were baptized! We are currently sharing in the kingdom of light, as St. John would say, and we must be agents of that kingdom! We must open our hearts to the Holy Spirit as the Apostles did and through listening to God and being obedient to his voice, we will find our calling and fulfill our mission. In Christ Fr. Levi FESTIVAL RIDE TICKETS Festival Ride Tickets will be sold after all the Masses this weekend at a discounted price of $10 a stripe of ten tickets. WE ARE SAVING A SEAT FOR YOU!

By Deacon Tim A Man for All Seasons is a 1966 film about the final years of St Thomas More. The movie stars Paul Scofield as St Thomas More, Orson Welles as Cardinal Wolsey and Robert Shaw as King Henry VIII. This film also stars Wendy Hiller, John Hurt and Nigel Davenport. St Thomas More was Lord Chancelor of England and he refused to sing the letter asking Pope Clement VII to annul King Henry VIII's marriage to Catherine of Aragaon. Because of his Catholic Faith, Thomas More also refused to take an Oath of Supremacy, declaring King Henry VIII supreme head of the Church of England. Because of this, More is sent to the prison in the Tower of London, and eventually convicted of treason. This was in part to the perjured testimony of Richard Rich. In a moving scene, Thomas More denounces the King's actions, explaining the primacy of the Pope and his authority over the Church. He also cites the Magna Carta and even the King's own coronation oath, as proof of the Church's protection against state interference. More is then condemned to death. In the famous scene, Thomas More pardons his executioner and says "I die his majesty's servant, but God's first." This film won an Academy Award for Best Picture (showing how different Hollywood is now as compared to back then). In addition, in 1995, The Vatican named this film as one of the 100 Greatest Movies of All Time. I proudly give this movie Five Beards out of Five Beards because of its beautiful portrayal of a man committed to his Faith, even in the face of a deadly threat. In a related comment, I believe that St Thomas More followed the words of Jesus in Luke 12:4-5. We should all do the same. Love Jesus in our hearts.. 2018 Father s Day Breakfast The Knights of Columbus and Chef Steve and his crew once again did a great job of organizing and providing an excellent breakfast on Father s Day. The event was held at St. Sylvester s hall with many Holy Apostles parishioners travelling to Brentwood to enjoy the day. From the omelet station to the eggs, bacon, pancakes, sausage, sausage gravy and biscuits, ham, quiche, potatoes, fresh fruit, toast, pastries, and drinks, the hall was full of happy smiles and full stomachs! If you look at the pictures on the website, you might notice some different faces. Many of these will become our new fellow parishioners, as they are from St. Sylvester and Holy Angels parishes. Ken (from Holy Angels) commented that the church community has changed from when he was younger. He realized that, when the Catholic schools started to consolidate, it was only a matter of time before the churches did as well. Dawn from St. Sylvester agreed that these changes are a great way to meet new people. A family from St. Gabe s told me they are anticipating their own consolidation. As I spoke to various people, however, it occurred to me that we re all united in our faith no matter where we ve come from or where we ll be worshipping in the future. Thanks again to all who worked so hard to make this day special for the dads and their grateful families. Saturday July 14, 2018 7:00 PM - 8:30 PM We are pleased to welcome Father Tom Galvin back as presider and inspirational speaker. We also welcome Patricia McCullough a judge of the Commonwealth Court of Pennsylvania, as witness speaker. Judge McCullough was previously Executive Director of Catholic Charities here in Pittsburgh. Jesus offers so much and He is always there for us with open arms. We only need to turn to Him and ask for his guidance and love. Father Galvin and Judge McCullough will share their thoughts, experiences and insight on Receiving God s Gifts. Our Festival of Praise is a beautiful opportunity for us to offer praise to Jesus and receive His love as His beloved children. Visit the Festival of Praise page on the parish website where you will find links to many of the songs that are in our Praise Band repertoire. Website: www.holyapostlesparish.org Email: praise@holyapostlesparish.org Questions: Call: 412-884-7744 PRE-CANA MARRIAGE PREPARATION The Diocesan mandated pre-cana marriage preparation course will be offered this fall, at Holy Apostles Parish, in the Faith Formation Building, on September 14 and 15 (Friday and Saturday). THE DEACON S CORNER Deacon s Corner Our Nar-Anon meetings are every Monday. We hope to continue to grow our family and provide support for those who are dealing daily with the insanity of addiction; those who are friends or family members of an addict. As we have stated, these meetings are to provide input to those who are suffering and wish to learn through the experiences live by others. Remember we maintain anonymity. Speak if you want or just listen, but please come. Nar-Anon website: http://www.nar-anon.org Every Monday, 6:30 pm In the St. Albert Chapel area 3198 Schieck St., Baldwin, PA ******************************************** BRENTWOOD MEALS ON WHEELS The Brentwood Meals on Wheels kitchen is located at Brentwood Presbyterian Church on Brownsville Road. On July 4 we will have a 50/50 Raffle to benefit the operating expenses of the kitchen. Tickets are available at a table on the grounds of Brentwood Presbyterian Church the evening of July 3 and on July 4 during the parade. Also watch for roving ticket sellers along the parade route. Tickets are $5 for 3 tickets and $2 for 1 ticket. Questions, call the kitchen between 8:30 AM and 12:00 Noon on weekdays at 412-881-6688. EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY The Catholic Cemeteries Association of the Diocese of Pittsburgh is seeking women and men for positions as Sales Counselors at Calvary Cemetery in Greenfeild. If you enjoy interacting with people and prefer working for a reputable organization, please call or email us to find out more. This is a full-time position with comprehensive benefits. Qualified candidates should submit their resume to careers@ccapgh.org or call Tom at (412) 208-1174 Gilmary Council #3868 Grand Knight Bernard Komoroski 412-381-7175) A CCD teacher asked the children just before she dismissed them to go to Mass, "And why is it necessary to be quiet in church?" Annie replied, "Because people are sleeping" If you search around on the web you will even find examples of Pope Francis taking a short nap during Mass. He says he occasionally doses off when he is praying. He says God is okay with that. But I would suggest that his heavy schedule often requires a little pick-me-up at times. And his connection to above is probably a little more intimate that ours should be. So, get rested before Mass. Treat Mass like the spiritual investment it is. The more you invest, guaranteed, the greater will be your returns. Pray before Mass and ask God to open your hearts and minds to understand all He has for us. Pray during Mass to receive the fullness he offers through his word and his Blessed Body and Blood. Pray after Mass that we are able and ready to take the love of Christ out into the world and share it with all we meet. Just as Christ said, I came not to be served, but to serve. We too are now called to that same mission, to serve our neighbor. So while you are in the station, get your tank filled to overflowing. Deacon Mike In Christ: We Are One, We Are Sent PRAYER FOR THE TRANSITION PHASE OF ON MISSION FOR THE CHURCH ALIVE! Father of Mercy During this time of transition, help us grow in unity with Holy Angels Parish and St. Sylvester Parish. Grant us wisdom and willingness to understand how our parishes will become stronger and more vibrant in fulfilling the mission of the Church. Assist us in opening our arms to welcome others as we continue to journey On Mission for The Church Alive! Help us, O Lord, to trust in the future you have planned for us. This we ask through Christ our Lord. Amen
