WELCOME Welcome to First United Methodist Church, we are delighted that you have chosen to worship with us this morning. Founded in 1821, First Church is the oldest Protestant church in the area and the oldest Methodist church in Florida. This historic church, with four Sunday services, has a membership of 3200 and is overflowing with life. We hope that you will consider becoming a member of our church family. You may join any Sunday by profession of faith or transfer of membership. Come and be a part of what God is doing here. FLOWERS The flowers in the Sanctuary today are given to the glory of God and in loving memory of the Hoefflin family and the Jones family by Jo and Bill Jones. VISITOR/NEW MEMBER CLASS We welcome all visitors and new members that are interested in learning more about First Church to an introductory class that consists of four parts. The class will assemble at 9:30am in room PH101 next door in the Perry Home. Today s class, Serving at First Church will help you find your place to use your gifts and talents in service in the church and community. Next week, Ministries at First Church will teach you about the various ministries at our church. We hope you join us each week. Hargrave *Please Stand Lectionary Scripture OLD TESTAMENT LESSON: Isaiah 49:1-7 The prophet reveals the mission of the Messiah to be a light to the nations, that [God s] salvation may reach to the end of the earth. SECOND LESSON: 1 Corinthians 1:1-9 Paul gives thanks for the Christians at Corinth and reminds them that they have been enriched by God with spiritual gifts. These will sustain them to await Christ s fulfillment. GOSPEL LESSON: John 1:29-42 John the Baptist reveals Jesus to be the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world, and the one who baptizes with the Holy Spirit. The first of the disciples to follow Jesus; one is not named, but the other is Andrew, who brings his brother Simon. Simon receives his new name Peter.

ANNOUNCEMENTS WEDNESDAY NIGHT DINNER AND ACTIVITIES Join us every Wednesday night from 5:00 6:00 pm for a time of food and fellowship at our Wednesday Night Dinner. Wachob will be teaching an in depth Bible study on The Acts of the Apostles beginning this Wednesday, January 22nd at 6:00pm in Wesley Abbey. All are invited to attend this wonderful book study with our Senior Pastor. JANUARY CHRISTIAN EDUCATION Winter classes continue this Wednesday with Earle McCauley and Geoff Cook leading Dave Ramsey's Financial Peace University at 6:00pm in room S117, and Dr. Gantt leading discussion on The Wesleyan Way. In addition to other class offerings for Adults, programs for Children, Tweens, Mid Highs, and Youth are also available. OFFICE CLOSED ON MONDAY The church office will be closed on Monday, January 20th, in observance of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.
