A MESSAGE FROM OUR PASTOR FAREWELL CELEBRATION NEWS Dear friends- This weekend I am officiating at an out of town wedding of a young woman from my first parish and will not be at some of the weekend Masses, but will be here for the 5pm Mass to celebrate Confirmation with 83 young adults from our parish. I m sure that we all hope that this important step in their lives will lead them to a deeper relationship with Christ and the Church and that the Holy Spirit will guide them in the years ahead to make good and Christ-centered choices and decisions. We wish them all the best. I want to thank Leah Ramsdell and her teachers and helpers for guiding these young adults on their journey to this Sacrament. Having had the chance to interview these candidates, I was happy to hear many of them say how they found the classes to be helpful and even interesting and that is a real tribute to the hard work of many of our staff and volunteers. I did receive a phone call this week confirming that Fr. John O Brien will become the administrator of St. Timothy s starting in December. As I mentioned previously, I think he is a very good choice to assume this position until a final decision is made about St. Timothy s becoming part of a collaborative in the future. When I leave in June, another priest will fill in from that time until December. I believe that a priest has been asked to take on this role although as we are always told nothing is official until the Cardinal signs the appointment letter. Hopefully that will be done very soon and his name will be announced. If the person who has been asked to come here does in fact come, again I think it is a fine choice and you will be in good hands with him and our staff. I know that transitions can be a challenge due to a certain amount of anxiety that accompanies every change. I know I am more than a little anxious as I face my transition in a couple of weeks to this new model of being a pastor of more than one parish. As I grow older, I think I become more aware of my gifts and my limitations. Sometimes my many limitations scare me. But as I think about my life, I know that it is God who directs the course of events and if we don t rely on God s grace and guidance then we accomplish little of real meaning. And so I ask you to join me in placing our trust in God as we go forward along these new paths and try our best to continue God s work in whatever part of the vineyard God has chosen for us. Father Culloty s last weekend here at St. Timothy s is fast approaching. We are working hard on preparing a wonderful celebration and there are some important details that we want to share. Our celebration will begin with the 4:30 Mass on Saturday, May 31, celebrated by both Fr. Culloty and Fr. Emerson. After Mass, we will enjoy a reception under the tent on the rectory lawn. In order to prepare appropriate quantities of food and beverages, we ask that you sign up on the RSVP sheets in the gathering space to let us know if you plan to attend the reception. Please sign up before May 25 th. Do you have a photo of Fr. Culloty with you or your family during the past 14 years? We would like to use these photos as part of our decorating scheme. If you have a photo to share, please drop off a 4x6 copy of the photo in the main office before May 25th. It would be best if you do NOT need the photo back. For the Masses that weekend, Fr. Culloty and Fr. Emerson will celebrate the 4:30pm Mass on Saturday. On Sunday, Fr. Emerson will celebrate the 8am Mass and Fr. Culloty will celebrate the 9:30 and 11am Masses. Coffee and refreshments will be served outdoors after each of the Sunday Masses. We are still accepting donations for Fr. Culloty s farewell gift, a charitable gift to the Mission Grammar School in Roxbury. Anyone willing to contribute may drop a check in the collection basket or send a check to the parish office, using the special envelopes available at the back of the Church. Please make the check payable to St. Timothy Parish and write on the memo line Mission Grammar. Lastly, we are still seeking volunteers! We need some help with set-up, decorating, and clean up on Saturday as well as baking and preparation for the Sunday coffee receptions. If you would like to contribute a baked item for the Sunday coffee reception, please bring it and drop it off before Mass on the morning of June 1. Beginning next weekend there will be NO 5pm Mass until after Labor Day. Fr. Culloty
