Mnday, July 25th Back t Schl Night! This is a night wherein tw area churches take all f ur children back-t-schl shpping. It is a great blessing, and a day the kids lk frward t all summer. In the past, we have had a regular day f VBS starting at 10am, then watched a mvie in the afternn, and then gne shpping. It has been an exhausting day fr ur children, interns, and staff. S we are trying smething new this year! We will pick up the children arund 2pm n ur nrmal rutes, have an activity r field trip in the afternn, and then g schl-supply shpping at 6pm. S there will be n regular VBS n this day. As the summer appraches we will give yu mre infrmatin abut what t expect this day.
Tuesday, July 26th Majr Pint: The swrd f the spirit is the wrd f Gd it is the nly ffensive weapn Gd has given us. Gd's Wrd is a SWORD and that when we read it we ften CUT thrugh ur hearts and that is what makes us CHANGE and live the way GOD wants us t live. Large Grup Bible Lessn (15 minutes): Spend 15 minutes teaching the children abut the faith. Yu can d a skit, act, shw a vide, etc. Yu nly have t tell the stry nce, s g all-ut here and be creative! He then brings ut a dictinary he is ging t use t learn t make them. The king infrms him that a dictinary will nt help him. He then ges ut and cmes ut with a phne bk; then an encyclpedia and a stry bk. Each f these the king rejects as being useless t help yu make ckies. All bks have a functin and t ck yu need a ck bk. The ck then brings ut his ck bk. He reads the recipe nce and then tsses it aside t g ff and bake the ckies. The king stps him and asks him if he is frgetting his ck bk. He infrms the king that he read it nce and that is enugh and ges ff t bake the ckies. He cmes back in the rm with a plate f really grss lking ckies. The king samples the ckies and starts t chke and cugh and carry n abut hw awful the ckies are. (Allw a child t sample the terrible ckies.) The king asks if he is sure he fllwed the recipe. He stutters abut and says that he thught he did, but, well, maybe he frgt smething. They get the ck bk ut and review what was put in the ckies nly t discver he frgt the sugar. The king can explain that we have ck bks t guide us while we ck. Lking at a recipe nce isn't usually enugh t knw the recipe. We need t memrize the recipe befre we try t make it withut lking. That can remind the king f hw the Bible is ur guide. We need t memrize it and hide it in ur hearts. Sme peple think it is enugh just t read the bible nce. We may nt always have a bible handy s it helps if we memrize Gd's wrd. We can use Gd's wrd t defeat Satan when he attacks us. The king calls fr the curt jester t cme and tell a stry abut using Gd's wrd as a weapn against Satan. When yu say g, the children use their ndle (they can t tuch the balln with their hands r feet nly the pl ndle) t try t get the ballns n the ther team s side. Whever ends up with the mst ballns n their side wins. This game has many variatins. The purpse is fr children t see that we use Gd s Wrd t cut thrugh the lies and see the Truth. T play, yu will need a stick f sme srt (r a few, depending n hw many kids yu have.) The stick culd be a bat, a stick, a pl ndle, r rlled-up newspaper. The stick represents the swrd, the Bible. Kids will swing at bjects that have lies written n them. When they knck ver the bject, the truth will be revealed. Fr example: set up a number f cereal bxes with lies written n them. (Fr example, Gd wn t frgive yu fr that, yu wn t really get in truble fr stealing, etc.) Inside the bx, have a card with a Biblical truth that refutes that lie. Yu culd als write lies n ballns and have the truth inside. Kids pp the ballns t find the truths. Or yu culd make piñatas ut f paper lunch bags. Use yur imaginatin and the supplies yu have n hand fr this game. T make this harder, have sme truths mixed in with the lies, and the kids have t decide which is which. Wednesday, July 27th Majr Pint: Jesus was able t fight ff temptatin frm the devil because He used the swrd f the Spirit (the Bible). He was tempted but He did nt sin. Large Grup Bible Lessn (15 minutes): Start with a narratr carrying in a large beautifully wrapped bx. Inside the bx, place smething wrthless like a brick, rck, piece f wd, r nthing at all. Tell the children that the cntents f the package are really special and valuable, and have the children try t guess the cntents. Open the package and reveal the wrthless cntents. Explain t the children that tday they are ging t learn that this is what Satan des. He ffers us smething that lks really beautiful. He even lies abut the cntents, but nce the paper is taken ff, what he has ffered is revealed t be cmpletely wrthless. He is a liar thrugh and thrugh. Next, have yur teens reenact the scenes f Matthew 4:1-4. Help the children understand that Jesus was tempted, but he did nt sin. He used the swrd f the Spirit t resist temptatin. We can use scripture we have learned this summer t resist the devil in ur wn lives. Fr example: While keeping their feet tgether have each child try t jump ver the lines withut tuching them, next see hw far each child can jump, then let the children try t hp ver the lines n ne ft.
