And if the bugler doesn t sound a clear sound, how will the soldiers know they are being called to battle? 1 st Corinthians 14:8 NLV First Love Ministries, Inc. PRAYER STUDY #152 The Balm of Gilead-PART ONE Is Your Heart Broken? Is Your Spirit Wounded? Is Your Mind Troubled? Are You Bitter? Do You Need Physical, Mental, Emotional, or Spiritual Healing? Is there no balm in Gilead; is there no physician there? Why, then is not the health of the daughter of my people recovered? If the Lord is calling an end time remnant company of Mighty Warriors, surely He wants them to walk in health and wholeness, including physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually. In order to come to this wholeness, they must learn how to overcome the enemy. GILEAD means Hill of Testimony or Mount of Witness. BALM symbolizes the healing ministry. Daughter of my people represents the Church or Bride of Christ. Revelation 12:11-12 And they [the true believers] overcame him [Satan, the accuser of the brethren] by the blood of the Lamb [the atoning work of Jesus on the cross when He shed His blood that we might live] and by the Word of their Testimony [the true believers quoting and believing the Word of God, even when it means walking by faith instead of by sight], and they [the true believers] loved not their lives unto the death [for the sake of Christ] [they were willing to die for Jesus physically, but also in a soulish way such as death of ego]. Therefore rejoice, ye heavens and ye that dwell in them [and true believers are spiritually seated in heavenly places with Christ Jesus, according to Ephesians 2:6 and other scriptures. That is why we can have peace beyond understand, i.e. because our minds, will and emotions and spirits are focused on Him and not on earthly things]. Woe to the inhabitants of the earth and of the sea! For the devil is come down unto you, having great wrath because he knoweth that he hath but a short time [Satan has read the book and knows his future]. And when the dragon [who is Satan and who is casted from the 2 nd heaven where he has accused the Body

of Christ before the Lord day and night] saw that he was cast unto the earth, he persecuted the woman [the Church or Bride of Christ] who brought forth the male child [Jesus]. And to the woman were given two wings of a great eagle [The eagle is the king of birds. Jesus is the King of kings. Perhaps these two wings are prayer and fasting, the same wings or weapons that Jesus used in His own temptation against Satan in the wilderness], that she [the church] might fly into the wilderness [the place of being alone with God, i.e. the prayer closet], into her place, where she is nourished for a time and times and a half a time, from the face of the serpent. And the serpent cast out of his mouth water like a flood [there is death and life in the power of the tongue, and perhaps this was a flood of negative words] after the woman, that he [Satan] might cause her to be carried away by the flood. And the earth helped the woman, and the earth opened her mouth and swallowed up the flood which the dragon cast out of his mouth. And the dragon was angry with the woman and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, who keep the commandments of God and have the testimony of Jesus Christ. [This means the spirit of prophecy which is the testimony of Jesus (Revelation 19:10), indicating that the Holy Spirit will not be taken from the earth as is popularly taught.] How the Remnant Company Overcomes the Accuser of the Brethren 1. By genuinely accepting Christ 2. By living and speaking the Word of God 3. By being willing to lay down their lives for Jesus Why so we need to overcome? So that we can walk in victory and bring healing and wholeness to others and to exploits for Jesus in this world as a witness to His power. Tools that will Help You Keep Walking in Victory over the Accuser of the Brethren ***Be prepared for increased demonic attack and be ready for end time tribulation: In speaking of His death, resurrection, and second advent, Jesus concludes by saying: These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation; but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world. John 16:33 And He complimented the Church of Smyrna, I know thy works and tribulation and poverty (but thou are rich), and I know the blasphemy of them who say they are Jews and are not, but are the synagogue of Satan. Fear none of these things which thou shalt suffer. Behold, the devil shall cast

some of you into prison, that ye may be tried, and ye shall have tribulation ten days; be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee a crown of life. Revelation 2:9-10 And we know that Revelation speaks of those believers who came out of great tribulation: And one of the elders answered, saying unto me, Who are these who are arrayed in white robes? And from where did they come? And I said unto him, Sir, thou knowest, And he said to me, These are they who came out of great tribulation and have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb. ***Keep your vision! Where there is no vision [no redemptive revelation of God], the people perish Proverbs 29:18a And the Lord answered me and said, Write the vision and make it plain upon tablet, and he may run that readeth it. For the vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the end it shall speak and not lie; though it tarry, wait for it, because it will surely come; it will not tarry. Behold, his soul that is lifted up is not upright in him, but the just shall live by his faith. Habakkuk 2:2-4 WHY HAS OUR VISION GONE? 1. The little foxes: Take us the foxes, the little foxes, that spoil the vines, for our vines have tender grapes. Song of Solomon 2:16 2. Discouragement A. Causes 1. Heavy Burdens(Numbers 11:10-15)Then Moses heard the people weeping throughout their families, everyone at the door of his tent, and the anger of the Lord was greatly aroused. Moses was also displeased. So Moses said unto the Lord, Why have You afflicted Your servant? And why have I not found favor in Your sight, that you have laid the burden of all these people on me? Did I conceive all these people? Did I beget them, that You should say to me, Carry them in your bosom, as a guardian carries a nursing child to the land which You swore to their fathers? Where am I to get meat to give to all these people? For they weep all over me, saying, Give us meat that we may eat. For I am not able to bear all these people alone, because the burden it too heavy for me. If You treat me like this, please kill me here and now-if I have found favor in Your sightand do not let me see my wretchness! 2. Defeat(Joshua 7:7)And Joshua said, Alas, Lord God, why have You brought this people over the Jordan at all-to

deliver us into the hand of the Amorites, to destroy us? Oh, that we have been content, and dwelt on the other side of the Jordan! 3. Feeling that we have failed(1 st Kings 19:2-4)Then Jezebel sent a messenger to Elijah, saying, So let the gods do to me, and more also, if I do not make your life as the life of one of them by tomorrow about this time! And when he saw that, he arose and ran for his life, and went to Beersheba, which belongs to Judah and left his servant there. But he himself went a day s journey into the wilderness and came and sat down under a broom tree. And he prayed that he might die and said, It is enough! Now, Lord, take my life, for I am not better than my fathers! 4. Sickness(Sickness of Hezekiah-Isaiah 38:11, 15, 18) I said, I shall not see the LORD, even the LORD, in the land of the living; I shall behold man no more with the inhabitants of the world. / What shall I say? He hath both spoken unto me and himself hath done it; I shall go softly all my years in the bitterness of my soul. / For the grave cannot praise thee, death cannot celebrate thee, they that go down into the pit cannot hope for thy truth. REMEDIES FOR LACK OF VISION 1. Ask yourself what you are doing in the place of discouragement and keep moving? (1 st Kings 19:9-18) The Lord spoke in a still small voice telling Elijah to return to anoint Hazael as king over Syria, Jehu over Israel, and Elisha as a prophet in Elijah s place. 2. Cast your burden upon the Lord. (Psalm 55:22) Cast you burden on the Lord, and He shall sustain you. He shall never permit the righteous to be moved. 3. Come aside by yourself (as Jesus did immediately after the death of John the Baptist) (Mark 6:31) And He said to them, Come aside by yourselves to a deserted place and rest a while. For there were many coming and going, and they did not even have time to eat. 4. Lift up your head (Luke 21:25-28) And there will be signs

in the sun, in the moon, and in the stars, and on the earth distress of nations, with perplexity, the sea and the waves roaring, men s hearts failing them from fear and the expectation of those things which are coming on the earth, for the powers of the heavens will be shaken. Then they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. Now when these things begin to happen, look up and lift up your head, because your redemption draweth near. ***Recognize that God is still a healer TODAY. (Hebrews 13:8) Jesus Christ, the same yesterday and today and forever. NOTES FROM TEACHING BY DON VAN HOOSIER From cowardice that shrinks from new truth, From laziness that is content with half truth, From arrogance that thinks it knows all truth, O God of Truth, deliver us! a. There is no scriptural evidence that healing should or did cease with the apostles. Would God promise more in New Testament days than He could or would do today? Does He only care about our spirits and not our bodies and minds? Are we to accept sickness passively as testing/refining? b. Preaching in the early church was validated with signs(usually healing). c. When Jesus commanded His own to preach the Kingdom of God, He also commanded them to heal the sick and cast out demons. (Luke 9:1-2, 10:8-9; Matt 10:1-8; Mark 6:12-13 d. To say that God sends illness to purify and build character encourages some to remain sick. Sometimes God does send physical sickness to correct His people and punish for sin, as in 1 st Corinthians 11:27-31. They were not to passively accept the sickness, but to stop sinning. e. Sickness is not cross bearing. Cross bearing is voluntarily and willingly done(matthew 16:24 & Luke 9:23). f. Suffering is sometimes presented positively in the New Testament, but sickness never is. Suffering refers to persecution inflicted by persons or demons. g. Jesus never viewed sickness except as something bad that should be healed and not accepted. He never inflicted sickness on anyone to accomplish some higher good, although He often

healed for that reason(john 9). He did not preach surrender to sickness nor should we. The Blood Bought Church They shall lift up their voice They shall sing for joy They shall cry aloud and be free They shall glorify the name of the Lord It s the blood bought, the church, the redeemed Oh, pick up your heart Oh, Zion of the Lord Let the earth ring forth with His praise All His children rejoice from the island of the sea It s the blood bought, the church, the redeemed Let the earth be silent All winds cease to blow Every created being hold your wing For there s a new song being sung With a new melody In the blood bought, the church, the redeemed. CHORUS And we are in the army of the Lord We ve been washing in the blood And we are going forth There is nothing that can stop the mighty moving force, With a shout of praise, a two edged sword Every stronghold of bondage must fall beneath our feet Every prisoner held captive must be freed For our deliverance has come Through the power of the Son It s the blood bought, the church, the redeemed.
