OUR SAVIOUR S Lutheran Church June 24, 2018
Time after Pentecost Now is the acceptable time; now is the day of salvation! Now we are in the storm, the boat almost swamped; but Jesus is here now, and when we call him he will calm the storm. Even the wind and waves listen to him as they would to their creator. In baptism we celebrate our oneness with Jesus - living the resurrected life! Gathering Music Gathering The Holy Spirit calls us together as the people of God. Welcome *Baptism (Please bring the bulletin insert with you as we gather at the baptismal font.) We sing: Love is flowing. from the fountain of life. Peace is pouring Mercy streaming
*Greeting The grace of our Savior Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all. And also with you. *Prayer of the Day Let us pray. O God of creation, eternal majesty, you preside over land and sea, sunshine and storm. By your strength pilot us, by your power preserve us, by your wisdom instruct us, and by your hand protect us, through Jesus Christ, Sea-Calmer and Savior. Amen. Word God speaks to us in scripture reading, preaching, and song. -- Quiet reflection First Reading Job 38:1-11 Then YAHWEH answered Job out of the whirlwind: Who is this that darkens counsel by words without knowledge? Brace yourself like a warrior; I will question you, and you shall declare to me. Where were you when I laid the foundation of the earth? Tell me, if you have understanding. Who determined its measurements surely you know! Or who stretched the line upon it? On what were its bases sunk, or who laid its cornerstone when the morning stars sang together and all the heavenly beings shouted for joy? 4
Or who shut in the sea with doors when it burst out from the womb? when I made the clouds its garment, and thick darkness its swaddling band, and prescribed bounds for it, and set bars and doors, and said, Thus far shall you come, and no farther, and here shall your proud waves be stopped? Word of God, word of life. Thanks be to God. Psalm 107:1-3, 23-32 Refrain All; Verses - Cantor Second Reading 2 Corinthians 6:1-13 As we work together with God, we urge you also not to accept the grace of God in vain. For God says, At an acceptable time I have listened to you, and on a day of salvation I have helped you. See, now is the acceptable time; see, now is the day of salvation! We are putting no obstacle in anyone s way, so that no fault may be found with our ministry, but as servants of God we have commended ourselves in every way: through great endurance, in afflictions, hardships, calamities, beatings, imprisonments, riots, labors, sleepless nights, hunger; by purity, knowledge, patience, kindness, holiness of spirit, genuine love, truthful speech, and the power of God; with the weapons of righteousness for the right hand and for the left; in honor and dishonor, in ill repute and good repute. 5
We are treated as impostors, and yet are true; as unknown, and yet are well known; as dying, and see we are alive; as punished, and yet not killed; as sorrowful, yet always rejoicing; as poor, yet making many rich; as having nothing, and yet possessing everything. We have spoken frankly to you Corinthians; our heart is wide open to you. There is no restriction in our affections, but only in yours. In return I speak as to children open wide your hearts also. Word of God, word of life. Thanks be to God. *Gospel Acclamation 6
The holy gospel according to Mark, the 4 th chapter. Glory to you, O God. *Gospel Reading Mark 4:35-41 Spark Story Bible pages 286-289 When evening had come, Jesus said to the disciples, Let us go across to the other side. And leaving the crowd behind, they took him with them in the boat, just as he was. Other boats were with him. A great windstorm arose, and the waves beat into the boat, so that the boat was already being swamped. But Jesus was in the stern, asleep on the cushion; and they woke him up and said to him, Teacher, do you not care that we are perishing? Jesus woke up and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, Peace! Be still! Then the wind ceased, and there was a dead calm. He said to them, Why are you afraid? Have you still no faith? And they were filled with great awe and said to one another, Who then is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him? This is the Good News. Praise to you, O Christ. 7

Eternal Spirit; Earth-Maker, Pain-bearer, Life-giver, source of all that is and that shall be, Father and Mother of us all, Loving God, in whom is heaven; the hallowing of your name echoes through the universe! 10
The way of your justice be followed by the peoples of the earth. Your heavenly will be done by all created beings. Your commonwealth of peace and freedom sustain our hope and come on earth. With the bread we need for today, feed us. In the hurts we absorb from one another, forgive us. In times of temptation and test, spare us. From the grip of all that is evil, free us.
