Blessed Assurance 1220 North Chester Street Baltimore, Maryland 21213 Reverend Marshall L. Barnes, Pastor I Blessed assurance, Jesus is mine! O what a foretaste of glory divine! Heir of salvation, purchase of God, Born of His Spirit, washed in His blood. Refrain: 2 Perfect submission, perfect delight! Visions of rapture now burst on my sight; Angels descending bring from above Echoes of mercy, whispers of love. Refrain: The Church That Cares Sunday, June 10, 2018 11:00 A M 3 Perfect submission all is at rest, I in my Savior am happy and blest; Watching and waiting, looking above, Filled with His goodness, lost in His love. Refrain:
At the Cross 1 Alas! and did my Savior bleed? And did my Sov- reign die? Would He devote that sacred head for such a worm as I? 2 Was it for crimes that I have done He groaned upon the tree? Amazing pity! grace unknown! And love beyond degree! 3 Well might the sun in darkness hide And shut His glories in, When Christ, the mighty Maker, died For man the creature s sin. 4 But drops of grief can ne er repay The debt of love I owe: Here, Lord, I give myself away Tis all that I can do! 10 Kaylah Davis 16 George Tanner 17 Geraldine Davis 19 Betty Tanner ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Emergency Notices All emergency situations are to be reported immediately to the Pastor, Reverend Marshall L. SERMON NOTES Sunday June 10, 2018 LISTEN to the message from God s Word. USE this sheet to make some personal notes. GO back over them through the coming week. LET God crystallize these truths in YOUR life. Sermon title: Biblical text: Main idea of sermon: 1. 2. 3. 4. Illustration I want to remember: What should I do as a result of hearing this sermon? For: Sunday, June 17, 2018 Teachings on Justice Lesson: Matthew 15:1-9 GOLDEN TEXT: This people draweth nigh unto Me with their mouth, and honoureth Me with their lips; but their heart is far from Me. Matthew 15:8 TODAY S AIM: To explore Jesus teaching about justice and hypocrisy. INTRODUCING THE LESSON: We may not see in our day and time such people as the scribes and Pharisees in our lesson today, but we will certainly encounter their spiritual heirs! The Lord Jesus, whose assessment of people was always completely accurate, called them hypocrites. They tried to at like true devotees of God, seeking to conform to His law. But they did not display any of God s mercy or His love for people. They tried to please God and be holy and righteous people, and they wanted everyone else to be as they were. They demanded that others follow God in exactly the same way that they did. PRACTICAL POINTS: 1. When people s hearts are not surrendered to Jesus, they often focus on ungodly things (Matthew 15:1-2). 2. Before questioning the motives of others, we should examine our own motives (Matthew 15:3). 3. We show our love for God when we honor our parents (Matthew 15:4). 4. Causes and traditions should never come before the Care of our families (Matthew 15:5-6). 5. Our motives are more important to God than what we say (Matthew 15:7-8). 6. Worship is meaningless if it is for the purpose of pleasing men (Matthew 15:9). CONCLUDING THE LESSON: We should be showing mercy and love toward others, even those with whom we do not agree on some minor point of doctrine. We do not want to fudge on the truth or compromise on God s standards of morality or truth, but we can give others the benefit of any doubt in noncrucial areas. Above many other things, we should walk the walk as we talk the talk. Our effectiveness in spreading the gospel of the Lord Jesus can be compromised by our insistence on following minor rules we see as the Christian way of life.
