Experiencing God as Jehovah Shalom The LORD is Peace When Your Peace Is Disturbed Judges 6:22-24; Philippians 4:4-9 22 Then Gideon perceived that he was the angel of the LORD. And Gideon said, Alas, O Lord GOD! For now I have seen the angel of the LORD face to face. 23 But the LORD said to him, Peace be to you. Do not fear; you shall not die. 24 Then Gideon built an altar there to the LORD and called it, The LORD Is Peace. To this day it still stands at Ophrah, which belongs to the Abiezrites. Philippians 4:4-9 4 Rejoice in the Lord always. Again I will say, rejoice! 5 Let your gentleness be known to all men. The Lord is at hand. 6 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; 7 and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. 8 Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy-- meditate on these things. 9 The things which you learned and received and heard and saw in me, these do, and the God of peace will be with you. The Reasons for no Peace Isaiah 57:20-21 20 But the wicked are like the troubled sea, When it cannot rest, Whose waters cast up mire and dirt. 21 "There is no peace," Says my God, "for the wicked." Isaiah 59:8-16 8 The way of peace they have not known, And there is no justice in their ways; They have made themselves crooked paths; Whoever takes that way shall not know peace. 9 Therefore justice is far from us, Nor does righteousness overtake us; We look for light, but there is darkness! For brightness, but we walk in blackness! 10 We grope for the wall like the blind, And we grope as if we had no eyes; We stumble at noonday as at twilight; We are as dead men in desolate places. 11 We all growl like bears, And moan sadly like doves; We look for justice, but there is none; For salvation, but it is far from us. 12 For our transgressions are multiplied before You, And our sins testify against us; For our transgressions are with us, And as for our iniquities, we know them: 13 In transgressing and lying against the LORD, And departing from our God, Speaking oppression and revolt, Conceiving and uttering from the heart words of falsehood. 14 Justice is turned back, And righteousness stands afar off; For truth is fallen in the street, And equity cannot enter. 15 So truth fails, And he who departs from evil makes himself a prey. Then the LORD saw it, and it displeased Him That there was no justice. 16 He saw that there was no man, And wondered that there was no intercessor; Therefore His own arm brought salvation for Him; And His own righteousness, it sustained Him. Jeremiah 6:14-15 They have also healed the hurt of My people slightly, Saying, 'Peace, peace!' When there is no peace. Were they ashamed when they had committed abomination? No! They were not at all ashamed; Nor did they know how to blush. Therefore they shall fall among those who fall; At the time I punish them, They shall be cast down," says the LORD. Jeremiah 8:15 We looked for peace, but no good came; for a time of healing, but behold, terror. Opposite of Peace War, Conflict Peace is rest, quietness.
Two Kinds of Peace in the New Testament 1. For the Sinner Peace with God Salvation Romans 5:1 Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. Ephesians 2:13-18 13 But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ. 14 For He Himself is our peace, who has made both one, and has broken down the middle wall of separation, 15 having abolished in His flesh the enmity, that is, the law of commandments contained in ordinances, so as to create in Himself one new man from the two, thus making peace, 16 and that He might reconcile them both to God in one body through the cross, thereby putting to death the enmity. 17 And He came and preached peace to you who were afar off and to those who were near. 18 For through Him we both have access by one Spirit to the Father. Colossians 1:19-22 19 For it pleased the Father that in Him all the fullness should dwell, 20 and by Him to reconcile all things to Himself, by Him, whether things on earth or things in heaven, having made peace through the blood of His cross. 21 And you, who once were alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now He has reconciled 22 in the body of His flesh through death, to present you holy, and blameless, and above reproach in His sight-- 2. And for the Believer The Peace of God The Circumstances of this Peace No matter what we are dealing with in life. Finances People Problems They should have no effect on this peace The Characteristics of this Peace The Extent Beyond Understanding The Evidence Guard your heart and mind The Envoy Work of Lord Jesus and Holy Spirit The Conduct that will bring you this Peace How do you experience this peace? You need to practice at least three things!!!! Guaranteed to work!!!!
1. The Practice of Praise v. 4 Rejoice in the Lord always. Again I will say, rejoice! When? Always We tend to say, Praise the Lord, He is so good! When good things happen.. We have our eyes and mind focused on happenings and people. But we are told here to praise the Lord always Even in the bad times. Who He is. What He has already done for us 2. The Practice of Pleasantness v. 5 Let your gentleness be known to all men. The Lord is at hand. Today so many of us think we have a right and maybe even an obligation to speak our mind and say what we feel. I m just being myself. You get what you see, you see what you get. I m just speaking my peace. Give you a peace of my mind Cankerous, Grumpy, negative, pessimist let your gentleness. let your moderation. let your patient consideration of others be known to all men Why? The Lord is at hand Meaning - practice your attitude and speech and actions toward others as if the Lord is there or would show up any minute. Practice Pleasantness!!!!!! The Result of Pleasantness! You will reap what you sow James 3:18 Now the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace. Your negativism, your bad attitude follows you around.. What goes around, comes around. 3. The Practice of Prayer v. 6 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; There is nothing deserving worry or anxiousness Worry never accomplished anything. Worry word comes from to strangle
Like a rocking chair it will give you something to do but it won t get you anywhere So what do you do. Suppose something happens that begins to rob you of your peace and joy. Take that anxious thought and turn it into a specific prayer request. Make a supplication. Means to make a strong petition. Everything With Thanksgiving Lord, I thank you that you are going to give me wisdom you are going to give me grace I know that you are going to use this to make me a better person for your Glory Practice Prayer!!!!! Then notice in next verse. 7 and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. There will be a garrison around your heart and mind. You will enjoy quietness, rest and peace. That even you can t really understand. The icing on the cake in the next verse. Instead of thinking and meditating on the negative thinks and people. Make a choice to think about God s truth, God s royalty, God s justice, God purity.. Then.. practice doing these things. Notice now!!!!! The God of peace will be with you Not only peace of God. But assurance that God Himself is with you!!!!!! God bless!!!!!
