Holy is the Lord, God Almighty, The earth is filled with His glory. The earth is filled with His glory. OPENING LITANY (please stand) Father in heaven, you have blessed us with this building we call Zion Lutheran Church, a temple built of living stones. Send your Spirit from heaven to sanctify this place that it may be a sign of your presence among us. Here may the Gospel be proclaimed with boldness. Here may the waters of baptism cleanse and renew us. Here may your people celebrate the memorial of Christ s risen presence. Here may prayer resound through heaven and earth. Here may the poor find justice, the victims of oppression, true freedom. Here may the sick find healing, and those in darkness and despair find light. We lift our voices to praise you, your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord, and the Holy Spirit. Praise be to the Holy Trinity, our strength and our salvation, now and forever. Amen. 2

PRAYER OF THE DAY Eternal God, let this building, which we call your house, be a house of grace and mercy. A place where Christians gathered together may worship you in spirit and truth, learn of your great love, grow together as sisters and brothers, and reach out tell the story of Jesus and his love. We ask this in Jesus name. Amen. (please be seated) SPECIAL MUSIC Sunday School Children A TIME FOR CHILDREN WORD FIRST READING Psalm 84: 1-4, 10-12 Pew Bible OT p. 600 1 How lovely is your dwelling place, O LORD of hosts! 2 My soul longs, indeed it faints for the courts of the LORD; my heart and my flesh sing for joy to the living God. 3 Even the sparrow finds a home, and the swallow a nest for herself, where she may lay her young, at your altars, O LORD of hosts, my King and my God. 4 Happy are those who live in your house, ever singing your praise. 10 For a day in your courts is better than a thousand elsewhere. I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than live in the tents of wickedness. 11 For the Lord GOD is a sun and shield; he bestows favor and honor. No good thing does the LORD withhold from those who walk uprightly. 12 O LORD of hosts, happy is everyone who trusts in you. 3 SECOND READING 1 Peter 2:4-6, 9-10 Pew Bible NT, p. 251 ALLELUIA (please stand) Celtic Alleluia Finton O Carroll and Christopher Walker The holy gospel according to Matthew the 25 th chapter. APOSTLES CREED (please stand) I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, God's only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again; he ascended into heaven, he is seated at the right hand of the Father, and he will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen. READINGS FOR OCT. 30 PSALM Psalm 84: 1-4, 10-12 1 How lovely is your dwelling place, O LORD of hosts! FIRST READING 1 Peter 2:4-6, 9-10 4 Come to him, a living stone, though rejected by mortals yet chosen and precious in God's sight, and 5 like living stones, let yourselves be built into a spiritual house, to be a holy priesthood, to offer spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. 6 For it stands in scripture: "See, I am laying in Zion a stone, a cornerstone chosen and precious; and whoever believes in him will not be put to shame." 9 But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God's own people, in order that you may proclaim the mighty acts of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light. 10 Once you were not a people, but now you are God's people; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy. GOSPEL READING Matthew 25:34-40 34 Then the king will say to those at his right hand, 'Come, you that are blessed by my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world; 35 for I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, 36 I was naked and you gave me clothing, I was sick and you took care of me, I was in prison and you visited me.' 37 Then the righteous will answer him, 'Lord, when was it that we saw you hungry and gave you food, or thirsty and gave you something to drink? 38 And when was it that we saw you a stranger and welcomed you, or naked and gave you clothing? 39 And when was it that we saw you sick or in prison and visited you?' 40 And the king will answer them, 'Truly I tell you, just as you did it to one of the least of these who are members of my family, you did it to me.'
