Good News from St. Pius X/St. Leo School "St. Pius X / St. Leo School is a diverse community forming students in the Catholic faith to excel in academics and service to others." Hello St. Pius X / St. Leo Community members, As I reflect on the school year, I thought this summer s bulletin would be a good time to reflect on all of the amazing accomplishments of our students and staff as prepare for the upcoming 2018-19 school year. I am continually amazed by the talents of our students and staff and cannot wait to see all that we will accomplish in our academic and spiritual growth in the years to come. We have had so many resounding successes in mathematics and this was seen this past year in the performances our students had in local math competitions. On February 3rd, we had 12 students represent St. Pius X / St. Leo school at the 2018 Marian High School Math Contest. There were 99 students from 10 Catholic schools and our 12 students did an amazing job. In 6th grade, we had Madeline Hartley, Delaney O Doherty, Brooklyn Sauer and Guilianna Weber compete. In 7th grade we had Katie Coppard, Erin Lemar, Maggie Morris and Sophia Tripp represent our school. Additionally, in 8th grade, we were represented by Elleiana Green, Meg Raabe, Gig Salerno and Abby Wessling. Our 8th grade team placed 2nd in the Math Contest and individually, Erin Lemar placed 9th, Meg Raabe placed 6th and Abby Wessling placed 3rd. Additionally, on February 17th, the local 2018 MATHCOUNTS competition, sponsored by the Nebraska Society of Professional Engineers, was held. St. Pius X / St. Leo was well represented in the completion and we had many students qualify to represent our school. Those students were Will Brewster, John Burns, Patrick McMahon, Peter Sullivan, Aiden Brink, Trevor Gregg, Caleb Hans, Erin Lemar and Maggie Morris. What is most impressive is that out of the 199 students present, John Burns and Will Brewster placed in the top 10% on the individual competition. In the team competition, St Pius X / St. Leo won a 5th place trophy out of 27 schools. We want to congratulate these students for representing our school so proudly. Continuing our students successes in math competitions, students Will Brewster, John Burns, Caleb Hans, Trevor Gregg and Will Wharton represented our school at the Creighton Prep Math Contest on April 7th this past school year. There were 90 students from 14 schools present for this annual event. The students competed by solving math questions and working on a data analysis challenge. Will Brewster earned a 3rd place plaque in the individual competition, while John Burns finished in the top 20% and Caleb Hans in the top 3rd. Congratulations to all of our students who competed this past year at Marian and Creighton Prep. Thank you to all of our amazing teachers and all of our competitors for their hard work and for representing our school so proudly. Cory Sepich, Principal St. Pius X/St. Leo School Special Note: The school office will be closed at different times during the summer. When our office is open, our office hours during the day will be 9:00am until 4:00pm with time off for lunch. It s always wise, during the summer to call ahead to make sure we are in the office at the particular time you d like to come. Our school office number is 402-551-6667. If you have children in grades Pre-Kindergarten (3-year-old and 4-year-old programs) to Grade 8 that you are thinking about sending to our school for the next school year, please call our school office at 402-551-6667 to set up a time to come and visit, and, then enroll your child/ren when you decide to come to our school. We are blessed that our grades are filling up fast but we would love for you and your family to join our school family next year. 06 l St. Leo Catholic Church

In Pursuit of Life, Love and Happiness By: Deacon Jim Shipman Sometimes we get a case of the poor ME s, and have those feelings like we are not good at anything, not smart enough, not pretty, etc. You get the idea. But nothing could be farther from the truth. We are God s creation and each of us in our way is perfect in his eyes. This week we celebrate one of the great men of the Bible, John the Baptist. He was chosen by God to be the herald of our Lord Jesus Christ. John s birth was unique, in that his mother Elizabeth was well beyond child baring age. Zechariah had prayed for years for a son, but had given up now. When God told him he would have a son, he did not believe it, and questioned God. As punishment, God made him mute until after John s birth. Then Zechariah gave the glory to God. This should be a good lesson to us, always listen to God the Father and never doubt. John was divinely chosen by God to be a prophet, but we are all chosen by God to be His unique and beautiful creation. Each of us is created to be part of God s plan. Each of us has the opportunity to become something greater, if we choose to follow the Lord. The LORD calls us from our mother's womb to be something greater than ourselves. However he gives us free will to choose our own path. God knows when we sit and stand, he knows our thoughts, and made us in His image. So remember when you are feeling sorry for yourself, let God love you and teach you to walk the right path into his arms. Prayer is effective; prayer is powerful; prayer is essential. Few are called to priesthood or religious life, but all are called to pray for vocations. Lord, your Church is in need. Help us to live lives that will nurture childhood trust into adult commitment. May this parish be a source of hope and a source of ministers for your Church, your people and your world.
