Our Lady Comforter of the Afflicted Parish Waltham/Lexington FATHER DIPERRI UPDATED REPORT PARISH BUILDING AND GROUNDS IMPROVEMENTS New Church Sound System is being installed at the Church. This system will completely replace the old system by installing all new wiring, microphones and speakers to provide us with a most advanced audio digital technology. The new sound system is expected to help make the Mass audibly clearer to those worshipping. The prior speaker system has been experiencing early warning signs of failing. The new system is being installed by Evan Landry of Landry Audio Corporation. Evan will be at all the weekend Masses to make any necessary adjustments to the new system. Parish Parking Lot Improvements: The first phase of the resurfacing of the parish parking areas has begun in the Parish Office parking lot to the rear of the School. This parking area has been redesigned to allow greater traffic flow and parking for Parish Office and School needs. Delvecchio Construction, Asphalt and Paving Contractors of Waltham, has skillfully worked on this project, under the direction of Joe Delvecchio. Also, serious deteriorated man-hole covers and surrounding asphalt have been re-constructed in the Church/School parking lot. They were in serious disrepair. Work on the Church Belmont parking area has yet to be scheduled but is expected to beginning this spring. Spring Clean-up of Parish Grounds: Our landscaping company, Twinbrook Landscaping, run by Bob Devoe, earnestly worked during the week to prepare the parish grounds for the upcoming summer season. In addition, sand from the parking lot between the Church and School has been removed. A thorough cleaning of the recently installed astro-turf playground also occurred during the April school vacation break by Joe Crowley of Crowley Clippers. Rectory Siding and Heating System: New composite siding will be installed on the rectory s exterior walls over the next few weeks. The siding material is also designed to better insulate the house and reduce heating costs in upcoming years, and factory installed coloring for extended years of durability. Work on the rectory heating system is also in progress. The funding of these projects comes directly from the Bequest of Patricia Dorin. Pat was a dedicated, active and long-time parishioner at Our Lady s. Please keep her in your prayers in gratitude for remembering her parish. These projects were only made possible by her bequest. Improvements to the Design of the Sanctuary Blessed Mother and Sacred Heart Statues are in the design process. Working with a recommended Professional Church Interior Designer, the Pastoral Council and Sanctuary Committee have reviewed various proposals to improve these areas for greater devotion and artistic beauty. Pictured is the current proposal which shows the statue framed in wood, with Mosaic background, and statue standing on a stone post which is similar in color to the sanctuary flooring. To either side of the stone base is a wooden paneling against the current brick wall. (Sketch shown is only of the Blessed Virgin Mary Statue. The Sacred Heart of Jesus would have similar design.) Funds from this project were prior raised for their intended purposes from the Parish Building Campaign of the past two years. Any further donations toward this fund will be gratefully received so other deferred maintenance and improvements can be completed. 4 Pentecost Sunday

Waltham/Lexington HOMEBOUND If you, a family member or a friend are not able to make it to Mass for whatever reason; in the hospital, rehab for broken bone or simply no longer able to drive any reason, please call Sharon in the parish office, 781-894- 3481 x2 and we will make arrangements to have communion brought to your home. Just because you cannot make it to Mass, we do not want you to feel any less a part of our parish family. Please do not feel you are bothering us, we want to help you. Just make the call. God Bless You. Our Lady Comforter of the Afflicted Parish HOLY HOUR Join Fr. Roache on Wednesday evenings for Holy Hour beginning at 6:30 in St. Joseph Chapel. All are welcome. This is a time to come together to adore Our Lord in prayer and reflection. Holy hour will be on the second and third Wednesday in May, May 16 and 23 and will conclude in June, June 13 and 20. Our Council would like to acknowledge Pizzi Farm for providing refrigeration for the roses our council distributed to the women of the parish last weekend on Mothers Day. Pizzi Farm has been our partner for the project every year, and we are very grateful for their continued support. KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS MEMBERSHIP: Are you over 18 years old? Would you like to help your family, your parish and/or your community? Why not join our council? If you could give up watching T.V. for just two hours a month you could help us help others. It s easy. Meet one of our Knights in the foyer of the church after any Mass or email olkofc@olca.org. ST. VINCENT DEPAUL BOXES Our Lady s St. Vincent DePaul has been quietly helping many people without much fundraising. The only income comes from occasional donations from parishioners, but mostly from the 4 blue metal boxes we have located at the doors of the church. Perhaps the next time you walk in OR out of church, you might notice the box and drop some coins or more which will greatly be appreciated. Thank you for your kindness. MEN OF ST. JOSEPH GATHERING OF CATHOLIC MEN Spend an hour asking God to guide your life on Saturdays from 7:00-8:00am in St. Joseph Chapel. Doors to the school open at 7:00am. Opening prayer is 7:15am followed by discussion and reflection on the Sunday readings with a closing prayer at 7:55am. Jesus knows that to be fully alive, we men need to learn to love like He does, and we need to courageously guard His role in our relationships with our families, friends, colleagues and strangers. Men of St. Joseph is a weekly gathering where Catholic Men pray, discuss the Sunday readings and gain perspective on the sweeter yoke and lighter burden that is God s will in their lives. Won t you join us? In God be at rest, my soul. (Psalm 62:6). St. Joseph, guardian of the Lord, pray for us. PRAYER FOR PEACE AND FOR OUR MILITARY Heavenly Father, we humbly ask Your protection for all our men and women in military service. Give them unflinching courage to defend with honor, dignity and devotion the rights of all who are imperiled by injustice and evil. Guard our churches, our homes, our schools, hospitals, factories, all buildings and all those within from harm and peril. Amen. May 20, 2018
