(Doors open at 1:00 pm). Important items will be the Chapter Elect i o n s, a n d s u b s e q u e n t l y, t h e h a n d o v e r to the newly elected Chapter Executive. John Ruhland will be giving a presentation on Black Forest Clocks. Although John will no doubt have several examples from his collection to show us, to support his presentation we are asking members to bring along for display, any genuine Black Forest clocks, books, articles or relevant items they may have in their collections. Show and Tell items by members will be welcomed as usual, and there will of course be Mart and Display Tables available. We would like your support at this meeting to participate in the important task of electing a new executive. Also it will be the first meeting following our summer recess, so please try to join us. NAWCC Membership Fees It seems that Peter Kushnirʼs persistant efforts in regard to our NAWCC fees have paid off. According to information we received from Allan Symons, who attended a meeting with NAWCC Board Member John Hubby at the Toronto Invitational in May, Peter once again forcefully spoke on the subject of unfair surcharges on International Members. Apparently John Hubby had heard the same strong message from members in Australia. A s a r e s u l t, f r o m n o w o n, i n t e r n a t i o n - al members will be paying the same annual fees as those paid by US members ie US $65, a s d e t a i l e d i n t h e e m a i l f r o m J o h n H u b b y w h i c h a p p e a r s o n P a g e 4. Maynard also introduced visitor Peter Burns who is seeking advice on some family pocket watches. As both President Maynard Dokken and Secretary Ben Roberts are stepping down from these positions in September it will be necessary to hold Chapter elections at that time, and Past President Dan Hudon has consented to act as Nominations Chairman. Peter Kushnir showed a Hamilton watch, serial # 144805. Only 99 of these pieces were made. The dial is marked Charles Lapierre, Ottawa John Ruhland announced that a person in Orleans in the East End of Ottawa has a Vernon Regulator clock for sale. Anyone interested should contact John. Administration Items Chapter Web Site Allan Sobieralski reported that he hopes to put together a Chapter Web Site during the summer. He anticipates that there will be no cost for the site for at least the first year of operation. It is possible that the site could be up and running by September. Brian Hollebone asked that anyone who has suggestions for the site should contact him. He proposed the following features for the site: Access for the public at large. Links to The NAWCC, and Clock Museums etc. He suggested that the site itself should have 8 to 10 pages consisting of the following: 1. Home Page with the Chapterʼs history etc. 2. Events. 3 Current News Letter. 4. Things for Sale or to Buy. Continued on Page 4

The next Introduction to Clock Repair course will start on Saturday September 16, and run on the subsequent 8 Saturdays, into early November. The Watch Repair Workshop will be held on Sunday September 10th. Because of the unavailability of the Community Centre, both of the above will be held at the Nepean Creative Arts Centre, 35 Stafford Road in Bells Corners. A map showing location and directions, NAWCC Membership Fees Continued from Page 1. JOHN HUBBY EMAIL: John Hubby <pastimes@juno.com> 06/21/06 11:04PM >>> Doug and all, Pleased to advise that the NAWCC Board has approved my proposal to set annual dues for all members, regardless of where they live, at US $65 normal postage included. This means all International Members will now pay the same as a U.S. member for new or renewal memberships instead of the previous US$75. If airmail service is desired instead of normal postage, that will be at extra cost as presently is the case. This will be effective July 1. For those members who have already paid the higher rate, their membership will be extended for two months to compensate The Chapter Picnic The 2006 Chapter 111 annual picnic was held on Sunday July 9 at the cottage of Teresa and Maynard Dokken. Some 36 members members, their family and guests attended. The weather was perfect, and crowned a day which was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone. The food was excellent and plentiful, as was the fun and conversation. The auction this year although small in comparison with previous years, provided new aquisitions for some, and good fun and enjoyment for together with course times, will be sent out to all members in June. Dan stated that he is open to suggestions regarding other courses or workshops, and that anyone who feels they can present a relevant course should contact him. Liability Insurance Members are again reminded that the Chapter does not carry any liability insurance, and members attend all our functions and meetings etc. at their own risk. This also applies to any meetings or courses etc. held at or hosted in a members home. It was suggested that members be required to sign a waiver to this effect. It was pointed out that this would probably require a legally drawn-up document or form. Apparently liability coverage can be obtained for courses held at the Nepean Creative Arts Centre for $1 per day. Treasurers Report Charles Beddoe reported that the Chapters finances are in good order and the books are up-to-date. Currently there are 17 unpaid Chapter memberships for 2006, 3 unpaid for 2004 and 1 unpaid for 2003. Unless these dues are paid soon, it will be necessary to follow up on an individual basis. for the additional payment already made. Doug and Carl, I will appreciate if you could call the presidents of chapters 104, 122, and 182 and advise them of this. The full details will be provided within a few days. John and Ben, if you could please advise the presidents of those Canadian chapters that you have contact with it will be much appreciated. Headquarters will be sending notification to those members who have already paid the higher amount as well as those who have received their renewal notices but not yet paid. All dues renewal notices mailed after July 1 will be at the new amount. This is the first step toward improving the NAWCCʼs provision of more equitable benefits and services for our international members. We are continuing to work on other initiatives that should further improve what we have to offer for all our members worldwide. everyone else. As usual, Maynard put in fine work as auctioneer, complete with cane and deerstalker hat. Once again, we extend our heartfelt thanks to Teresa and Maynard for the use of their cottage and site, and also to Judy and Pete Graham for their great work and effort in organizing supplies and other arrangements. Judy is owed a very special thanks for her usual fine expertise and organization at the barbeque. Without her efforts most of us would have gone home very hungry indeed. Thanks also to those several unnamed people who helped to make the picnic a success. See pictures on pages 5 and 6. Almonte Antique Evaluation Event We have been invited to participate in the annual Antique Evaluation Event at the Textile Mill Museum in Almonte again this year. The Chapter has participated in this show several times previously, and this year it will take place on Sunday 21 October. In the past we have provided a small display of horological items together with some members willing to carry out watch and clock appraisals for the public. This will be an item for discussion at the September meeting and will fall under the jurisdiction of the new Chapter Excutive.

Charles Beddoe in action with his camera Good food and good conversation were enjoyed by both members and guests. At the end of the day, the cottage site is restored to pristine condition by the ever faithful clean-up crew of Teresa Maynard, Judy Graham and Pete Graham. Without them there would have been no picnic.
