REFLECTIONS & JOYFUL OPPORTUNITIES Do not worry by Fr. Eduino, OLA Pastor In today s Gospel Jesus counsels us to not worry but to trust in God the Father Who knows our needs. We are called to seek the Kingdom of God first and everything will be given us. What is needed is faith. That is why it is so important to share in God Word and prayer to grow in faith. This ca happens in support groups, small communities of faith that inspire and encourage one another. In communion with our pastoral council we want to encourage our parishioners to join small faith sharing communities, especially during Lent. This will help our parishioners to grow closer to God and to each other. Stewards of the Mysteries of God by Dean Marshall, OLA Seminarian We can all agree that we live in difficult times: on all almost levels we see different groups arguing, events that can have a profound emotional, physical, and spiritual impact, and a stress that seems to pervade many individuals lives. Whether it is on a social, personal, political, spiritual, or even a natural level as we have seen with recent weather events, life can at times present challenges. This week s scripture, however, reminds us that no matter the difficulties, God is always with us. Saint Paul calls us stewards of the mysteries of God. I m not sure about you, but this sounds like a tall order; after all, how can I be a steward of the mysteries of God if I can barely keep my desk organized? Saint Paul knew this, and what s more important, God knows this as well, for He reminds us that our Heavenly Father knows exactly what we need; our job then is to trust that He knows what He is doing. We must seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, remembering that we must not worry about tomorrow; tomorrow will take care of itself. How then do we approach current events, situations, or issues that may challenge us to our core, no matter what perspective we come from? We must realize that the Word of God is living and effective in our lives and if we allow it, this same Word, Jesus Christ, will form and inform our actions. As Isaiah reminds us today, if a mother can never forget the needs of her infant, so then the love of God is all the greater, for His love goes beyond that of any person. When we keep Him as the daily focus of our lives, we become effective stewards and signs of hope, truth, and mercy in our world. Thus continuing to keep these mysteries of God as our focus when things are difficult isn t such a tall order after all. For reflection: If I had recent difficulties in life, or even if I haven t, how can I better trust in God s plan for my life? STEWARDSHIP & ENLIGHTENMENT OPPORTUNITIES Thank you for your generosity on February 18th & 19th Weekend Offertory: $ 9,239.08 Electronic Giving: $ 938.33 Total: $10,177.41 Average Weekly Budget Amount: $13,846.15 No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon (material wealth). Matthew 6:24 For many people, God and money run neck and neck as their first priority. Making money and spending money becomes the center of their life and they actually become a slave to money. The solution become more generous. Giving money to Church and charity frees us from slavery to money and from making money a god before God. Our Lady of the Assumption Parish invites you to consider our electronic giving program, ParishPay, as a way to automate your regular weekly offerings. Electronic giving is convenient for you and provides much-needed consistency for our church. There is no cost for you to participate. If you are currently giving on a weekly basis, you will no longer need to write out 52 checks a year or prepare 52 envelopes. And when travel, illness or other circumstances prevent you from attending services, this program will allow your weekly offerings to continue on an uninterrupted basis. To sign up, simply go to olaparish.net and click on donation or you may call the Parish Office for assistance. Our Lady of the Assumption takes the trust you place in us seriously and has used previous gifts to support the educational needs of our students, the liturgical and basic necessities of those helped by our charity partners locally, as well as investing in the future of Our Lady of the Assumption Parish. We are grateful to those who have included us in their plan for the distribution of their assets after death. We pray that you will keep Our Lady of the Assumption Parish and/or School in mind. We invite you to contact the Parish Office if you wish to learn more about how you can include us in your estate planning. Annual Catholic Appeal This weekend, February 25-26 th, we will once again be given the opportunity to be Christ to others through works of mercy. How do we help a family in need? How do we best help the man or woman along the roadside with a request for money? Do we pass them by? Do we feel guilty? Do we wonder how the money we give might be spent? As Catholics in the Diocese of Sacramento, we have a way to help those truly in need. By making a generous donation to the Annual Catholic Appeal, you can live the Gospel message and provide real assistance. Our parish receives 25% to serve our local needs, people who come to our doors looking for a bit of help or a hand up. The charitable works of the Church, whether in Catholic social service programs or parish-based outreach ministries, depend on all of us. Each of our gifts, no matter the amount, really does make a difference in someone s life. Please prayerfully consider what you can give. Our gifts to the Annual Catholic Appeal are Mercy in Motion.
