Lasallians are cooperators with Jesus the Christ in building up the Kingdom of God. Lasallians make Jesus the Christ all important in their lives. They do this by being faithful to, and living the Gospels. Lasallians are ambassadors and ministers of our Lord Jesus the Christ in the work that they do. Lasallians see the face of Christ in all whom they encounter. Reading Luke 2: 21-40 When eight days were completed for his circumcision, He was named Jesus, the name given Him by the angel before He was conceived in the womb. When the days were completed for their purification according to the law of Moses, they took Him up to Jerusalem to present Him to the Lord, just as it is written in the law of the Lord, "Every male that opens the womb shall be consecrated to the Lord,"and to offer the sacrifice of "a pair of turtledoves or two young pigeons," in accordance with the dictate in the law of the Lord. Now there was a man in Jerusalem whose name was Simeon. This man was righteous and devout, awaiting the consolation of Israel, and the Holy Spirit was upon him. It had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he should not see death before he had seen the Messiah of the Lord. He came in the Spirit into the temple; and when the parents brought in the Child Jesus to perform the custom of the law in regard to Him, he took Him into his arms and blessed God, saying: "Now, Master, You may let Your servant go in peace, according to Your word, for my eyes have seen Your salvation, which You prepared in sight of all the peoples, a light for revelation to the Gentiles, and glory for Your people Israel." The Child's father and mother were amazed at what was said about Him; and Simeon blessed them and said to Mary His mother, "Behold, this Child is destined for the fall and rise of many in Israel, and to be a sign that will be contradicted (and you yourself a sword will pierce) so that the thoughts of many hearts may be revealed." There was also a prophetess, Anna, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher. She was advanced in years, having lived seven years with her husband after her marriage, and then as a widow until she was eighty-four. She never

left the temple, but worshiped night and day with fasting and prayer. And coming forward at that very time, she gave thanks to God and spoke about the Child to all who were awaiting the redemption of Jerusalem. When they had fulfilled all the prescriptions of the law of the Lord, they returned to Galilee, to their own town of Nazareth. The Child grew and became strong, filled with wisdom; and the favor of God was upon Him. Reading Matthew 27: 35-54 After they had crucified Him, they divided His garments by casting lots; then they sat down and kept watch over Him there. And they placed over His head the written charge against Him: This is Jesus, the King of the Jews. Two revolutionaries were crucified with Him, one on His right and the other on His left. Those passing by reviled Him, shaking their heads and saying, "You Who would destroy the temple and rebuild it in three days, save Yourself, if You are the Son of God, (and) come down from the cross!" Likewise the chief priests with the scribes and elders mocked Him and said, "He saved others; He cannot save Himself. So He is the King of Israel! Let Him come down from the cross now, and we will believe in Him. He trusted in God; let Him deliver Him now if He wants Him. For He said, 'I am the Son of God.'" From noon onward, darkness came over the whole land until three in the afternoon. And about three o'clock Jesus cried out in a loud voice, "My God, my God, why have You forsaken Me?" Some of the bystanders who heard it said, "This One is calling for Elijah. "Immediately one of them ran to get a sponge; he soaked it in wine, and putting it on a reed, gave it to Him to drink. But the rest said, "Wait, let us see if Elijah comes to save Him." But Jesus cried out again in a loud voice, and gave up His spirit. And behold, the veil of the sanctuary was torn in two from top to bottom. The earth quaked, rocks were split, tombs were opened, and the bodies of many saints who had fallen asleep were raised. The centurion and the men with him who were keeping watch over Jesus feared greatly when they saw the earthquake and all that was happening, and they said, "Truly, this was the Son of God!"

Thoughts of De La Salle Meditations Although Jesus Christ died for all, the benefit of His death is, nevertheless, not effected in everyone, because all do not make the effort to apply it to themselves. The response of our will on our part is necessary in order to make it effective. It is up to each of us to achieve and complete the work of our redemption. The Spirit of the Living God acts in us and by us through the power of Jesus Christ. God gives us so many signs of His goodness toward us. Jesus Christ Himself says that He came into the world to give us life and to give it to us in abundance. Leader: Jesus says, I am the Bread of Life. I am the bread that came down from heaven. If anyone eats this bread they will live forever. John 6: 35, 41,51 All: Lord, give us this bread always. John 6: 34 Leader: All: Jesus says: I am the Vine and you are the branches. Whoever remains in Me will bear much fruit, for you can do nothing without Me. John 15: 5 Lord, we believe You are the Holy One Who has come from God. John 6: 69 Leader: Jesus says, I am the Gate. Whoever comes in by Me will be saved. John 10: 9 All: Lord, Lord, let us in! Matthew 25: 11 Leader: Jesus says, I am the Light of the world. Whoever follows Me will have the light of life and will never walk in darkness. John 8: 12 All: Lord, send us Your light and Your truth. Psalm 43: 3 Leader: Jesus says, I am the Good Shepherd. I know My sheep and they know Me. And I am willing to die for them. John 10: 14 15 All: Lord, make us one flock with one shepherd. John 10: 16 Leader: All: Jesus says, I am the Resurrection and the Life. Whoever lives and believes in Me will never die. John 11: 25 26 Lord, I do believe that You are the Messiah, the Son of God. John 11: 25 Leader: Jesus says, I am the Way, the Truth and the Life. No one goes to the Father except by Me. John 14: 6 All: Teach me Your ways, O Lord. Psalm 25: 4

Leader: Jesus says, I am the One Who knows everyone s thoughts and wishes. I will repay each one of you according to what you have done. Revelations 2: 22 All: Examine me, O God, and know my heart. Psalm 139: 27 Leader: All: Jesus says, I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End, the First and the Last. Revelations 22: 13 Lord, You show us that the first shall be last and the last first. Matthew 19: 30 Lord Jesus Christ, the world s True Sun, ever rising, never setting, Whose life-giving warmth engenders, preserves, nourishes and gladdens all things in heaven and on earth; shine in our souls, we pray, scatter the night of sin, and the clouds of error. Blaze within us that we may go our way without stumbling, taking no part in the shameful deeds of those who wander in the dark, but rather walking all of our lives as people of the light. Amen. May Christ be in my head and in my understanding. May Christ be in my eyes and in my looking. May Christ be in my mouth and in my speaking. May Christ be in my heart and in my thinking. May Christ be in my hands and in my doing. May Christ be in my feet and in my going. May Christ be with me. Christ before me. Christ behind me. Christ in me. Christ beneath me. Christ above me. Christ on my right and Christ on my left. May Your salvation, O Lord, be ever with us.
