Series Title: Dates: 1946-1959. Quantity: 2.6 cu. ft. (2 boxes and 2 partial boxes). : See Detailed Description section for box locations. SCOPE AND CONTENTS OF THE RECORDS Two sets of files relating to the reorganization and consolidation of the state s school districts. The first set was kept by John McKee, school district reorganization supervisor for the north/northwest section of the state. Many of the materials relate to the work of reorganization consultants W. E. Hanson, Eugene Meyer, and B. N. Hendrickson and mainly detail their work with the various county superintendents. Included in the files are correspondence and statistics sheets documenting various aspects of the survey, including assessment values, population trends, orders issued by school boards, and school districts' receipts and cash on hand. The second set of files includes mimeographed materials, printed flyers, and correspondence between Director of Rural Education T. C. Engum and reorganization consultants B. N. Hendrickson and W. E. Hanson, documenting activities throughout the state. They also contain correspondence about specific consolidation proposals, tax impact notices and compilations, lists of school officers, correspondence and petitions for and against specific consolidation proposals, maps, and newspaper clippings. Also included with these records is a small set of correspondence between Rural Education Director Engum and the State Advisory Commission on School Reorganization, primarily discussing activities of the commission.
