FROM God s House TOYour House 226 West State Street Sharon, PA 16146 JUNE MAY 2014 2017 NEWS CALENDAR St. St. John s John s Episcopal Episcopal Church Church The The Rev. Rev. Adam Adam T. T. Trambley, Trambley, Rector Rector 724-347-4501 724-347-4501 stjohns@stjohnssharon.org stjohns@stjohnssharon.org www.stjohnssharon.org www.stjohnssharon.org

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, Over the past year, our Natural Church Development team has worked on ways to improve the loving relationships in the parish. I want to highlight some of them for you, as we have begun to implement them. First, the Thank You box in the lounge has already been getting good use. Anyone who would like to thank someone in the parish for their efforts can put a card in the box with the person s name and what they should be thanked for. We have a small team of people who regularly check the box and send out thank you notes on behalf of St. John s. Second, we hope to intentionally thank those serving in the different ministries of the church. On Mother s Day, we recognized the Episcopal Church Women with a blessing during the service and a small gift. Throughout the year, we will take the time to honor a variety of people who minister in different ways to our parish and those we serve. Third, our NCD team identified healthy conflict resolution as something that we as a church needed to work on. During Lent, I gave a sermon series looking at Christian conflict resolution from a variety of perspectives. The Vestry has also approved a booklet outlining St. John s Conflict Resolution Process. This booklet will be passed out at church at the beginning of June, but anyone who is ST. JOHN S EPISCOPAL CHURCH & SHARON 1ST UNITED METHODIST ARE JOINING TO BRING OUR KIDS A CROSS CULTURAL VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL Sunday, July 30th thru Friday, August 3rd 5:15 PM to 5:30 PM This is always a fun-filled week both for our children and the adults that will guide them through their: Incan Eats Dinner each night Celebration Music Learn exciting new music Kid Vid Videos Learn about children s lives in Peru Bible Expeditions Bible Stories Play Peru Games Experience Peru Science & Crafts Little Llamas Pre-School Please pre-register and help make our first day of VBS go smoothly. July/August 2017 Newsletter Deadline: Please have all articles for the July/August newsletter in the parish office by Friday, June 16. If at all possible, please e-mail all articles/events to the church or please type/print and deliver to the parish office in person. E-mail: stjohns@stjohnssharon.org Fiske working on the Allen Hall tower. Fiske has had a number of people over the past few weeks working on the mortar and control joints in the Allen hall tower, the office windows, the stone stairs outside of the office and the narthex, and preparing the foundation for the sign. It is all coming along pretty well. Church Records Baptisms: Cecilia Elizabeth Ward May, 21, 2017 Sealed by the Holy Spirit in Baptism and marked as Christ s own forever Thank You... A special thank you to Marilyn Gozik, Dale Wheaton, Joe Addison, and Bob Edeburn for sorting the large donation of cans and other donated food items for the Doddy s Pantry shelves at Episcopal Community Services. interested can get a copy from the office. While some of the steps are detailed, the basic concepts are not. Praying for each other, talking to people directly, seeking to understand as well as to be understood, and asking for help if needed are all straightforward ideas. This conflict resolution process is designed to help us remember to put these good habits into practice. We are also beginning the process of transitioning to new database and accounting programs. We have been using our current programs for a while, and it is time for an upgrade. Tina will be working hard on this conversion, and Keith Rowlands and Nick Baron have also been instrumental in helping. Special thanks, too, go to Bob Edeburn, who has kept our finances in shape and been our in-house accounting resource for many years. Finally, a word of congratulations to our graduates Aaron Erimias, Max Baron, and Dozie Ezi-Ashi. I m grateful for all you have contributed to St. John s. Congratulations to Bob Disko s granddaughter, Bethany Wallace. May God continue to watch over you and bless you in the coming years. Peace, Adam Did you know that St. John s has a website? TO ST. JOHN S 2017 GRADUATES The class of 2017 is ready to venture forward into the real world. This move is scary, right parents? St. John s is proud to have been a part of this journey ahead for the following young people: Maxwell Baron and Bethany Wallace of Sharon High School; Aaron Erimias and Dozie Ezi-Ashi of Hickory High School. MAXWELL NICHOLAS BARON, son of Nick and Missy Baron, graduates from Sharon High School in June. Max will be attending Rochester Institute of Technology, Rochester, NY in the fall and plans to major in computer engineering. While attending St. John s, he has served as an acolyte at the 10 am service. AARON ERIMIAS, son of John Erimias, graduates in June from Hickory High School. Aaron will further his academic studies and baseball career at LaRoche College, PA. He will be majoring in Business/Marketing and hopes to contribute to the college baseball team as a pitcher. He is looking forward to new challenges, meeting different people and making new friends through his experience. While attending St. John s, he was an acolyte at the 8am service and attended church camp. From Our Music Director, Ron Gracilla We are the Lord s; then let us gladly tender Our souls to Him in deeds, not empty words Let heart and tongue and life combine to render No doubtful witness that we are the Lord s. Our anthem for the 7th Sunday of Easter, We are the Lord s by Karl Spitta reminds us, that though our very actions we witness to the Good News of Christ Jesus. For some it is volunteering in the various ministries here at St. John s helping to feed and clothe the least of us. But did you ever think that congregational singing is also faith in action? When we trust in the Lord and sing with whatever gifts we have, we are supporting each other and in so doing supporting our church. On June 4th, Pentecost Sunday, I invite you to sing with us as we proclaim All Are Welcome in our opening hymn. I put the music in the bulletin to make it even easier. Also, I think you will enjoy hearing a reprise of Come Down, O Love Divine by Charles Beaudrot where the choir calls the Holy Spirit down from the heavens and into our hearts and parish. Maybe you have a friend who doesn t attend church. Another way to bring your faith into action is to invite them to Trinity Sunday service on June 11. It ll be the last day of this year s choir singers so I ve thrown in all the very best in hymns, praise and worship and contemporary songs. You will want to share the stunning anthem by John Rutter, For the Beauty of the Earth. Afterwards, take a moment to thank your St. John s Choir for all the work and dedication they have put in all this year. Sing a new song unto the Lord!, Ron Gracilla 3 St. John s Episcopal Church Sharon, Pennsylvania 724.347.4501 Phone stjohns@stjohnssharon.org www.stjohnssharon.org 8

Youth Group News On Saturday, June 3rd, St John s Youth Group will be having a FAST day. We will be doing several service projects, both for St. John s, and for the City of Sharon, along with a Scavenger Hunt to benefit the Episcopal Community Services food pantry. The young people have also asked to fast that day, to remind them of how near food insecurity is for those in the valley. Please pray for our young people. Christian Education News Sunday School Perfect Attendance for April... McKenzie and Kevin Ulan and Anthony Halt. Congratulations! DOZIE EZI-ASHI, son of Joan Ezi-Ashi graduates from Hickory High School. He will be attending the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, in the fall to pursue Finance and Actuarial Mathematics. He is also planning to continue with Track and Field in college. BETHANY WALLACE, the granddaughter of Bob Disko and daughter of Richard and Lisa Wallace will be graduating from Sharon High school, where she was a member of the National Honor Society. She will be attending Kent State University majoring in Architecture and Design. A whole bunch of little bunnies brought their baskets out Easter Sunday morning for our Easter Egg Hunt. Many thanks to Heather Ulan and Carrie Greimann for preparing the eggs and hiding them.
