Fifth Sunday of Lent April 2, 2017 THE WORK OF THE PEOPLE Welcome to Luminous Parish, we are glad you are here. The word we often use to talk about our worship is liturgy, which historically has meant the work of the people. That word by itself puts us on good conceptual territory with respect to our corporate worship. We don t think of our gatherings as services that are watched, although you are certainly welcome to simply observe; rather, we think of them as a total effort of all the people involved. It s the work of the people which we, together, offer up to God. CALL TO WORSHIP / PROCESSIONAL - 10,000 Reasons Matt Redman Bless the Lord, oh my soul oh my soul, worship His Holy name Sing like never before, oh my soul I'll worship Your Holy name The sun comes up, it s a new day dawning it's time to sing Your song again. Whatever may pass, And whatever lies before me let me be singing when the evening comes. And on that day, when my strength is failing the end draws near and my time has come; still my soul will sing Your praise unending ten thousand years and then forevermore. You're rich in love, and You're slow to anger Your name is great, and Your heart is kind. For all Your goodness, I will keep on singing ten thousand reasons for my heart to find.

SILENT PROCESSIONAL OPENING ACCLAMATION Bless the Lord who forgives all our sins. His mercy endures for ever. THE COLLECT OF PURITY Almighty God, to you all hearts are open, all desires known, and from you no secrets are hid: Cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration of your Holy Spirit, that we may perfectly love you, and worthily magnify your holy Name; through Christ our Lord. ALL Amen. THE COLLECT OF THE DAY ALL The Lord be with you. And also with you. Let us pray. Almighty God, you alone can bring into order the unruly wills and affections of sinners: Grant your people grace to love what you command and desire what you promise; that, among the swift and varied changes of the world, our hearts may surely there be fixed where true joys are to be found; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen. OLD TESTAMENT READING Ezekiel 37:1-14 Reader The Word of the Lord. Thanks be to God.

PSALM READING Psalm 130 Reader The Word of the Lord. Thanks be to God. NEW TESTAMENT READING Romans 8:6-11 Reader The Word of the Lord. Thanks be to God. (standing) GOSPEL ACCLAMATION - Holy! Holy! Holy! Holy, Holy, Holy! Lord God Almighty early in the morning our song shall rise to Thee. Holy, Holy, Holy! Merciful and Mighty God in Three Persons, Blessed Trinity. Holy, Holy, Holy! all the saints adore Thee casting down their golden crowns around the glassy sea. Cherubim and seraphim, falling down before Thee; who wert and art and evermore shall be THE GOSPEL READING John 11:1-45 The Holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to St. John. Glory to you, Lord Christ. The Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you, Lord Christ.

GOSPEL ACCLAMATION (reprise) - Holy! Holy! Holy! Holy, Holy, Holy! though the darkness hide Thee though the eye of sinful man Thy glory may not see. Only Thou art Holy, there is none beside Thee perfect in power, in love and purity. THE HOMILY Holy, Holy, Holy! Lord God Almighty all Thy works shall praise Thy name in earth and sky and sea. Holy, Holy, Holy! Merciful and Mighty God in Three Persons, Blessed Trinity. Rev. Jenna Martin (standing) THE APOSTLES CREED ALL: I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord. He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again. He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

THE PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE Leader Let us pray for the Church and for the world. Grant, Almighty God, that all who confess your Name may be united in your truth, live together in your love, and reveal your glory in the world. Lord, in your mercy Hear our prayer. Leader Guide the people of this country, and all the nations, in the ways of justice and peace; that we may honor one another and serve the common good. Lord, in your mercy. Hear our prayer. Leader Give us all a respect for the earth as your own creation, that we may use its resources rightly in the service of others and to your honor and glory. Lord, in your mercy Hear our prayer. Leader Bless all whose lives are closely linked with ours, and grant that we may serve them in the Spirit of Christ, loving one another as he loves us. Lord, in your mercy Hear our prayer. Leader Comfort and heal all those who suffer in body, mind, and spirit; give them courage and hope in their troubles, and bring them the joy of your salvation. Lord, in your mercy Hear our prayer. Leader For those who have given their lives for the least of these; who have served as your kingdom come here on earth as in heaven - May their passion and devotion be examples we look to for courage and perspective. Lord, in your mercy Hear our prayer. Leader Please add your own prayers silently or aloud.

CONFESSION God so loved the world that he gave his only Son Jesus Christ, to save us from our sins, to intercede for us in heaven, and to bring us to eternal life. Let us then confess our sins in penitence and faith, firmly resolved by the grace of God to keep his commandments and to live in love and peace: ALL Most merciful God, we confess that we have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done, and by what we have left undone, We have not loved you with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. We are truly sorry and we humbly repent. For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ, have mercy on us and forgive us; that we may delight in your will, and walk in your ways, to the glory of your Name. Amen. May the Almighty and merciful Lord grant you forgiveness of all your sins, true repentance, amendment of life, and the grace and comfort of the Holy Spirit. THE PEACE The peace of the Lord be always with you. And also with you. Share in peace with one another.

OFFERING - Offering my hands shake with guilt and shame still You love me, love me You eyes are bright and shine so full of mercy, mercy Jesus, Bread of Life, Bread for all this is my offering this is my everything the Son of God, who bled and died and rose again for me Your flesh, You gave for all so we could see You, see You Your blood, poured out for all so we could know You, know You Jesus, Bread of Life, Bread for all Ike Ndolo this is my offering this is my everything the Son of God, who bled and died and rose again for me (standing) THE GREAT THANKSGIVING The Lord be with you. And also with you. Lift up your hearts: We lift them to the Lord. Let us give thanks to the Lord our God: It is right to give him thanks and praise. It is right, and a good and joyful thing, always and everywhere to give thanks to you, Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth. Therefore we praise you, joining our voices with Angels and Archangels and with all the company of heaven, who for ever sing this hymn to proclaim the glory of your Name: ALL Holy, Holy Holy Lord, God of power and might. Heaven and earth are full of Your glory. Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest.

Holy and gracious Father: In your infinite love you made us for yourself, and, when we had fallen into sin and become subject to evil and death, you, in your mercy, sent Jesus Christ, your only and eternal Son, to share our human nature, to live and die as one of us, to reconcile us to you, the God and Father of all. He stretched out his arms upon the cross, and offered himself, in obedience to your will, a perfect sacrifice for the whole world. On the night He was handed over to suffering and death, our Lord Jesus Christ took bread; and when He had given thanks to You, He broke it, and gave it to his disciples, and said, Take, eat: This is My Body, which is given for You. Do this for the remembrance of Me. After supper He took the cup of wine; and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them, and said, Drink this, all of you: This is my Blood of the new Covenant, which is shed for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins. Whenever you drink it, do this for the remembrance of me. Therefore, we proclaim the mystery of faith: ALL Christ has died. Christ is risen. Christ will come again. We celebrate the memorial of our redemption, O Father, in this sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving. Recalling his death, resurrection, and ascension, we offer you these gifts. Sanctify them by your Holy Spirit to be for your people the Body and Blood of your Son, the holy food and drink of new and unending life in him. Sanctify us also that we may faithfully receive this holy Sacrament, and serve you in unity, constancy, and peace; and at the last day bring us with all your saints into the joy of your eternal kingdom.

All this we ask through your Son Jesus Christ: By him, and with him, and in him, in the unity of the Holy Spirit all honor and glory is yours, Almighty Father, now and for ever. AMEN. ALL And now, as our Savior Christ has taught us, we are bold to say, Our Father who is in heaven, hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us today our daily bread, and forgive us of our debts, as we forgive our debtors. Keep us from temptation, and deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever and ever. Amen. Alleluia. Christ our Passover has been sacrificed for us; Therefore let us keep the feast. Alleluia. These are the Gifts of God for the of God. Receive them in remembrance that Christ died for you, and feed on him in your hearts by faith, with thanksgiving.
